My husband and I went to the prairie house for dinner tonight. We actually went there on our first date and have always had a good experience. However, tonight we DID NOT. We went in and decided to sit in the bar area. Our server politely greeted us and took our drink and appetizer order which went well. I order the fried catfish and my husband ordered the Texas three step (chicken sausage brisket) for dinner and we both ordered a salad. Our salad and banditos appetizer were good as always, but when our dinner came my fish was soggy and slimey and not very good... My husband enjoyed his food. The entire time we were eating and trying to enjoy our special date night, the bar tender and MANAGER stood at the bar complaining about other servers/co-workers side works and about their jobs. My husband and I were sitting at the farthest booth from them and could still hear everything they were saying. Very un-professional and a bit un appealing to have as the atmosphere while eating our dinner. When I told my server that I did not like my meal she politely asked if Id like them to cook me a different one. I said no thank you. We saw her walk over and tell the manager who loudly asked, "okay now where is she"? She did end up taking the fish off of our ticket but did not come to ask about the food or greet us and/or apologize for anything. I have been going to the prairie house for years now and have not ever sent anything back or had a bad experience. It seems that they should be taking better care of their customers especially management instead if standing around with other staff and speaking or complaining about other employees in front of customers.

My wife and I moved to a surrounding area and needed new places to eat out. This one seemed like a natural choice since it is one of a very fee restaurants around and it looks interesting from the outside. We have been here a total of 3 times in the last 18 months. Our first impressions were it was okay. My wife ordered the burnt ends which she did like and everyone elses food was pretty good, although it did take a bit of time. Overall a decent experience. The second time we went my mother was visiting. Poor service, cold food not much else to say here. The third and final time I had a friend show up at my home last minute so we decided to eat out. He is from out of the country so I wanted him to try something a little more "Merica" than other choices. He ordered BBQ I believe... His exact words were "Buddy, why did you bring me here?" The food took absolutely forever to get out. What made it worse was that the place only had 3 customers from what I could see because it was rather late. Cold food never tastes good and our orders were wrong, but we dealt with it because we didnt want to wait another 38 minutes for food. Overall I would say the look and aesthetic appeal is here, its a good location smack in the middle of Denton and Frisco... Food is pretty good when its warm... service has never been good, but rather average or much worse and lastly it has been our experience that it takes forever to get to eat! It could probably be a 1 star, but I hold out because this is my favorite type of food, I just like it warmer than room temp.

The Boss is the best filet in town!!! It is comparable to that of Bobs, Ricks, III Forks, Silver Fox, Nick & Sams... but at a very affordable price. The Torpedos (cheese stuff jalapenos wraped in chicken and bacon) are amazing and a meal itself. I raised beef cattle while growing up and am very picky in regards to my steak. I was introduced to the Prarie House in the mid 90s (when they were located down the street with the dinner theatre) while working show cattle with other beef producers in the area. The atmosphere is very relaxed, so you are welcome if you just came in from the pasture or in a wedding dress. I introduced my boyfriend to the Prarie House (after having our fist date at Ricks Chop House in downtown McKinney) and he is absolutely in love. He was used to dining at Ricks, Bobs, III Forks, and all the pricy steak houses, and now we drive 30 miles to eat at the Prarie House. Granted you lack the fancy atmosphere, sides, and plating of the up-scale steak houses, but the quality of the Boss is second to none. I do admit that they do have some off nights as it is more of a local down home restaurant. I do believe the quality is not as good since they moved about 7 years ago, but still the BEST STEAK in the DFW!!!

Recently moved to the area, decided on a to go order while unpacking. We ordered my 2 year old some chicken strips and mashed taters, I started cutting them and pulled off a crispy on the end and took a bite, to my surprise pulled out A PIECE OF STEEL WOOL. So thankful I took that bite! Went back with the piece of metal that was in my babys food, I spoke with Maria the "manager". I shook her hand introduced myself and had to ask for her name. First off if you cant greet a customer with a proper hand shake and introduction you have no business being a "manager". I explained the situation to her showed her the PIECE OF METAL and she says "oh a piece of a scrubber" doesnt even utter anything remotely close to an apology. She offered to recook the meal as if Id want another plate from her kitchen, all I wanted was an apology, someone to recognize that a possible disaster had just been avoided, a simple sorry, I got nothing of the sort. I WAS SICK TO MY STOMACH. Obviously the food is tasty and mistakes happen, understood. How about showing some ownership. Well never go back, well stick to our kitchen where dishes are served metal free! Coulda got a better experience with a teeny bopper manager around the corner at McDonalds

Extremely disappointed. Went there with my wife yesterday. The service was incredibly slow and the drink orders were incorrect. Not to mention the coke was flat and took over 10 minutes to get me a new one. After this my wife was so afraid our food was going to be spat in she refused to send her water back even though it had bits of styrofoam in it. The catfish was disappointing to say the least certainly not worth the increased prices of 13$ per order. And as if this wasnt enough, I just got my debit card statement back saying that the waiter overcharged me to give himself a generous tip that he was not deserving of to say the least. I would not recommend eating here to anyone for any reason ever. They serve poor quality food and have the audacity to commit fraud so that the guy could get an extra 6$ in tip even though I already left one. Its unfortunate because it is one of the closest country style food options around and I really wanted it to be good but I was left with a bad taste in my mouth from the food and the next day when I found out they overcharged me.

Went to Prairie House last night. When I ordered catfish with plain baked potatoe the waitress told me I had to give up my two sides for it and it would be alittle extra. Didnt understand that but ok and then she asked me what other side I wanted. Didnt make sense. I said a salad which she said ok. My dinner came with a loaded baked potato and fries. I didnt order either. The salad had a drop of dressing. My daughter in law ordered port chops which were overly saltly. She ate some of one. When the bill came I was charged $2.99 for the salad. SO, I paid $12.00 for catfish and a potato which I gave up coleslaw and corn on the cob for but received a loaded potato and french fries which I didnt order. The waitress did not offer to take it back. I told her it was not what I ordered. Did not get anything I ordered. First time was sorely disappointed in the food, probably will not go back for quite a while.
