You dont know what youre missing! Go ahead and charge me. I plead guilty! Im from Chicago, and if there are two things Chicagoans know and love its sports and pizza. Heck, I still pay $80 to have my favorite pizzas flown in from Chicago on special occasions (like when the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup)! Like many others on this board, I have foolishly overlooked Roppolos as a serious contender on the Austin pizza scene. "Great pizza for late Friday night...", says the typical 6th Street crawler review. "Oh, thats just bar food," say some of my downtown resident friends and people that work downtown looking for an awesome place (and GREAT deal) for lunch. WRONG! People, youve got it all WRONG! I was downtown yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), and was craving a slice of pizza. Fortunately, my stomach wouldnt listen to my brain which had been poisoned all these years by those potent myths. So my stomach guided my feet right to Roppolos door. (Im not sure I even knew they had a door. I just thought they served pizza out the window to passersby on the street). I walked in to check out the seating area to see if I could take out my ipad and get some work done. I was blown away... "Are you kidding me?" Walking through the doors at the back of the restaurant, I was teleported into a fabulous multi-level dining area, complete with a patio deck and several HD TVs. Yes! They also had free Wi-Fi so I could get my work done. Ok, I thought, Ill give it a try, not expecting much. WRONG AGAIN!!! The pizza was fantastic! Not only that, they gave me a Pizza Roll (I had like 4 different kinds to choose from), and a drink all for 5 bucks! I have to tell you, I was tempted to go back and try other kinds, but I was just too stuffed from the one extremely generous slice. Combined with the Pizza Roll, there was just no room for any more food! Bottom line is this: If you want to make a quick $20, next time one of your misinformed buddies parrots the BS about Roppolos only being good during late night benders, challenge them to a bet. $20 says that they will love it just as much as you and I. Ropollos is a pure gem hidden in plain sight! Theyve been a downtown fixture for over 15 years and deserve much better and more serious reviews for their pizza. Go ahead, I challenge you too! Just write about your awesome experience here, too!

Put simply, the fact that Roppolos continues to stay in business is a testament to the fact that drunk people dont have much sense of discretion. I cant imagine how awful (or overpriced) a pizza stand on Sixth Street would have to be in order to actually go out of business. Okay, maybe Im being a bit melodramatic- Roppolos certainly isnt the worst pizza Ive ever had. In fact, I ate worse pizza in my colleges cafeteria all the time, and never thought anything of it- but unlike in that scenario, when you want New York-style, by-the-slice pizza on Sixth Street, theres lots of other, better options, all of which are comparably priced and within a short walking distance. Roppolos is about the epitome of mediocre heat-lamp pizza. The crust is dry and flavorless, the sauce has no particular flavor besides an off-putting sweetness, and youre lucky if the cheese is only a little congealed. You can add some toppings to mask all that lack of flavor, but youre lucky if they stay on the pizza and arent burned. To be fair, Roppolos isnt completely without merit: their "garden patio" location is actually pretty nice. Its got some greenery, lots of seating, free wifi, and a relatively quiet vibe, and its a nice oasis from the chaos of Sixth Street. Plus, the last time I went there they gave me a coupon for free pizza rolls if I checked out the upstairs patio, which they rent out for events. Of course, the pizza rolls were burned... Really, if it sounds like a good idea to go to Roppolos instead of any of the other pizza options on Sixth Street, youre way too drunk. Buy a few slices from Jacks or Hoboken Pies, and go home.

Considering Ive been to New York City and have had some incredible pizza there that made me rethink my stance on pizza. I used to hate it in fact. Until I had pizza in New York from one of the many corner pizzeria that make up every neighborhood. With that said, this place is my favorite thing about having to visit 6th St when Im in town for work. They sell slices for about $4.50 and well worth it. Big slices, almost as big as the ones served in New York but not quite big enough to fold over the way the NYCs have to be eaten. The pizza is pretty damn good, even when they reheat it because it wasnt fresh out of the oven. Even better when youre drunk, they are usually open late for the drunken crowds but may run out of slices quickly. They have a variety of pizzas and the cinnamon rolls are delicious when not burnt. They do have a menu that offers combos.

This was probably the WORSE experience I have ever had! My boyfriend and I asked for the prices on a whole entire box of pizza and got attitude right away, we then told the employee that we wanted four slices of pizza he then attempted to slam each slice on a plate individually (like were going to walk around 6th street with all these plates) with more attitude, I then asked him for a box to place the pizza in, he grabbed a box and literally threw our pizza in there with plates piled on top of one another. After saying something to him about it he told us not to come back and a few other employees chimed in as well making racist remarks. Horrible service and the pizza was not worth it at all !!!! Never going back!

The first time I had this pizza, I craved more for an entire week! I had the Italian Garden pie which was the perfect blend of veggies, cheese and sauce over a delicious crust. I mean it when I say Roppolos Pizza has ruined me for any other pizza. Nothing else compares! There is a wide variety of pizzas and rolls to chose from. The quaint and cozy bar in the back (Davincis) is a great place to escape the craziness of the rest of 6th St and you can even grab a cold one or a glass of wine and catch the game on the huge projection screen. Dont discount this pizza as just something to have after a night of drinking!! Its the only pizza I want for breakfast lunch and dinner :)

Day / Time: Saturday around noon. Coupons: Used a Groupon deal Really liked the way the place looked. In NJ, have never seen a "pizza bar", but this place was really cool looking. Could definitely see people showing up at 1 AM for drinks and pizza. Food was good, but the service was the biggest thing for me. The guys behind the counter were friendly and even offered us free samples to try out. Extremely nice of them. Pizza was good. Not as good as the stuff Im used to, but definitely was tasty. Would definitely recommend the place to anyone in the area, whether it be for lunch, dinner, or a 1 AM munchie run.
