Bottom line, go elsewhere. I gave Spartan Bakery an opportunity to redeem themselves before posting poor reviews, but theyve chosen to let it go... I ordered my wedding cake from them. When I first walked in, Jamie seemed confident & knowledgeable; the owners, Mike & Cathy, friendly. A few days before my wedding I called to check in with Jamie to make sure we were all set. This is when I got a little nervous bc I had to basically re-explain the details wed discussed about my cake. I even sent her a picture of my cake VIA MMS. When I arrived at my reception the event coordinator met me & said, "dont freak out, your cake fell." She said the girl came in, set the cake up in a hurry, ran out & within few moments the top of my cake fell. At first I thought, ok, one persons story, but throughout the course of the night several other people related the same story including the DJ who was not a fan of some of the staff at the reception venue. I heard things like, "so sorry about your cake" , "all of a sudden it was just falling over!" , "she was so unprofessional". The director at the reception venue called & left a message at Spartan Bakery, but nobody answered. Originally staff at the bakery told me they dont usually hear the phone bc "its all the way in the office & were usually in the kitchen", but later Mike changed this story when he spoke to my husband saying they "always answer." The cake is a pretty big deal at most events, a huge deal at a wedding. Mine was horrid- visibly broken with attempted cover-ups by venue staff. Jamie (bakery staff) took a picture on her cell phone before leaving it, & it looked beautiful, but you could already see that the top was buckeling because she crammed the cake topper into the cake. It was not designed for that & any professional would have known that it would have caused the cake to fall apart. When I asked for 50% refund (not 100% bc we did eat what we could salvage), Mike blew me off several times because he had to "talk to his wife". The only time I heard from them was when I called, & they refused to compensate me in any way. I love supporting small business, but they dont deserve it, they dont care about the services they offer. Take your money elsewhere, it matters too much to take the chance with Spartan Bakery. And frankly, Ive had better cake from a box.

We used spartan bakery for our wedding 7/15/17, we gave I believe her name was Brenda, all the information and pictures of how our cake was supposed to be set up and she never relayed the information to the individual that actually set up our cake, not only did the cake look horrible because she doesnt know how to properly align an image on a cake, but we used my wifes hand made engagement ring box (being told shed use wax paper and supports so it doesnt sink in the cake and it would be protected) yeah, that didnt happen. By the time it came to cut the cake, it had sunk in, ibalmost scrubbed the paint off trying to. Get off icing. All the pictures of the cake turned out horrible because of their error they refuse to own up to. Ive called multiple times demanding a refund and they always say well call you back and never do. Ive tried for over a month. Word of the wise, never f*** with a womans wedding day. My wife is still upset about it and they arent doing anything to correct it. WILL NEVER RECOMMEND. Worst service ever. Employees need to learn to communicate with each other when it comes to someones day thats so important to them.

I have been to spartan bakery time after time after time! I keep going back because the taste of the cake and icing is very very good! HOWEVER, the cakes are NEVER ready when I need them...even though I give them pictures they are never really what i want! I have been there maybe 15 times to order cakes, and they may have gotten it right once but it was still an hour later than when i needed it! They never want to give you a big discount for their mistakes, just knock off a couple dollars because I think they know you are stuck because you have no "back up cake"! Quite a few times some of the employees have gotten aggravated with me because they have to fix the cakes...I guess it depends on if you want the look or the taste of the cake! I suggest telling them 3 hrs before when you really need it and go look at it first because you need to give them time to fix it if they mess up! But They are the only bakery around here beside ingles/publix/bilo, and they cant deliver the size of cake I need, and the taste is good!

Ordered some cupcakes for my daughters birthday. They were supposed to have white icing with sprinkles and sour candy strips on top. Went to pick them up and they werent what we ordered. They had metallic looking sprinkles and no candy. When I asked why there was no candy on top the woman seemed confused and went to get someone else. After about 5 minutes someone else came out and said that whoever took my order didnt say that I wanted candy on them and they were out of candy at the time of pick up (it was the manager who took my order and I showed her the exact ones I wanted because they were displayed) . I put candy on them myself for the party. The cupcakes werent good quality either. The icing was oily and grainy and the cupcake tasted like boxed cake. I will not be returning here for anything else.

Brenda is amazing!! My girlfriend and I called last min one day last week and needed a cake made and delivered THAT day for a close friends birthday... Brenda was so nice and caring! She took great care of us! She didnt have anyone to make our delivery so she done it personally herself for us! Talk about great customer service!! Brenda done an amazing job on the cake also! Our friend loved his cake! He was very impressed with the cake (looks as well as taste!) We have never met Brenda, we just called to make the order and she was the one who helped us and we must say... Brenda is amazing and her kind, caring, going above and beyond attitude has made us customers for life here!! Thanks again Brenda for going above and beyond for us and for making our friends birthday great!! 5 Stars!! Very happy!!

Wedding cake is awful! The lines look like a 5 year old drew them and it was NOT made as requested. The icing is separating, and if it wasnt for the fact that we have to have this cake for tomorrow and there is no time to have another one ordered or made, we would have thrown this cake back at them. Went back to address the situation and spoke to the manager who was completely rude, said they could not redo the cake, and only offered $20 back after the cake decorator admitted it was her fault that the cake was done wrong. Will not be going back and will also be advising friends and family not to purchase from them ever!

Spartan Bakery has been the top cake place as for as I am concerned. I have dealt with them since they were on Main Strret in Spartanburg. The Johnson family were great with the store. Now, when you order, half the time your order is not ready, you wait hours, the staff is not people friendly anymore. I have only gotten cake that was not fresh once in thirty-five years. I am very dissapointed that I cant even get orders filled anymore. I called it in on Wednesday, and it still was not ready when I got there at five.They need to hire more people, or expand their business.
