During a recent trip to Spartanburg a friend and I visited Converse Deli based on two recommendations from people we met. The place is easily found situated in a small shopping center across from Converse College. The deli has a nice patio area with seating that is surrounded by a small garden with freshly grown vegetables and herbs. Inside, one finds a funky, hip little diner that is comfortable but not pretentious. With this being my first visit I was a little confused on the process (no hostess or greeter) but upon heading to the counter, I learned if you want to dine-in you can just take a seat. While the deli was busy during my visit, service was prompt and courteous. I was glad to learn of how the deli uses all locally grown produce. Knowing this I opted for a vegetable panini (even though I am not vegan or vegetarian). My friend ordered one of the turkey sandwiches. While awaiting our sandwiches, our server was attentive and sure to keep our glasses filled. Our sandwiches arrived with a compliment of chips and a pickle. And, heres where I found a surprise. The sandwiches were delicious. My vegetable panini was fantastic, hearty, and had a delightful vinaigrette dressing that made each bite pop with brightness and flavor. If all vegetable dishes were this tasty, I could see myself dropping meat out of my diet without too much trouble. What a surprise! The final bill was comparable to what any quality sandwich lunch will run ($9-ish per person with drinks). Now that Im moving to Spartanburg, I will certainly be heading back to Converse Deli. This place is a true gem with a quality product. Recommended.

HATEFUL. RUDE. GO TO CRIBBS!!! Money hungry and disrespectful to customers. Today, I treated my sister to lunch here. I have never been so embarrassed by a lunch choice. We ordered the War Eagle and it was not edible, she took two bites of her wrap and both times she pulled bones out of her mouth. BONES LONG AS A TOOTH PICK. The service was TERRIBLE. We waited over 10 minutes for someone to refill our teas, and when we got tired of waiting my sister walked over to the tea pitcher sitting on the counter and was just going to pour herself more when a HATEFUL waitress told her she was not allowed to do that. When the lady followed her back to the table she only refilled 1 out of 3 empty glasses. We told our waiter about the bones and he disappeared after he "took her plate back to the kitchen." I waited around 10 more minutes for him to come back, but no he ignored me. While I waited I watched several other customers come in and walk right out because no one offered to help them. The cashier was RUDE and also did not ask how my dining experience was. Before, leaving I spoke with the manager and he COULD NOT HAVE CARED LESS. He told me that I should have told someone about the bones and service sooner. Ummm...I did and then he did not try to give me a refund or offer me another wrap. WORST RESTAURANT in Spartanburg. RUDE staff. WOULD NOT SERVE THEIR FOOD TO MY DOG.

Excellent food, and very accommodating. We came for a birthday dinner for my fiancee with a party of about 12, so we called ahead of time to give them a heads up. They were so polite and accommodating to us and their gourmet dinner selection was superb. Much of their produce is locally sourced. While we were waiting on our meals, they brought out complimentary appetizers which included pimento cheese on a fried plantain with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, and southern style nachos with fresh cut potatoes, chives, a mixture of cheddar and pimento cheese, topped with thick cut bacon bits. The staff were so friendly and super knowledgeable about everything on the menu. And to top off our delicious meals, the chef came out and introduced himself and asked how everything was. If youre looking for a great place to eat in Spartanburg that has a laid back atmosphere, with unique selections that are fresh and flavorful, you need to come here!

The best deli in the upstate! I always get the Blue Ridge sandwich on wheatberry bread...*yummm!* Their watermelon lemonade is so addictive. Ive never had a bad experience and I have been there a lot!! It is a little pricy but their food is so fresh and they have huge portions...they have a garden and get most of their food nearby...it is well worth the $8 a sandwich. They also have a punch card so for every time you get an entree, you get a punch and for every so often punches, you get a free entree. I have been through quite a few punch cards. If I am ever in Spartanburg for lunch...I dont even have to think about where I am going to go...this is the only option! <3

Working near Converse Deli, I go at least once a week and I have never been disappointed. To begin, there is plenty of seating, both inside the restaurant and outside. The wait staff is very prompt, polite, and helpful, quickly getting your order and willing to offer suggestions if you have trouble choosing from their wide variety of sandwiches and salads. The quality of the food is fantastic. I try to get a different sandwich most visits and every one that I have tried thus far has been amazing. The sandwiches run about $8, and are totally worth it. Highly recommended if youre in the area and want a really good but quick meal.

Service was horrible. Being that this was my first time and I went alone, I stood around confused and not one staff member offered to assist me. When I finally asked where do I make a to go order, one guy brushed me off by saying "I dont know" but the other pointed me to where to go. I waited for about 15-20 min, which wasnt bad, but the lack of a friendly "are you ok? or be right with you." just turned me off. Food was great, but I will never go back again. I was also the only minority there, so I am not sure if that had anything to do with my treatment (or lack thereof). I was extremely disappointed.

Converse Deli is a standout for me. A good sandwich shop is hard to find. They also have a westside location, but Ive never been there and its oddly located. They have original sandwiches, many based on local names. My wife always getting the Wofford, she doesnt branch out often. I have had the Cuban among many others. I feel guilty not remembering more by name, but always good. They carry daily specials of quiche, salads, sandwiches and more. They even put people on call lists when their preferred items come up for the day. So, I have a few places I frequent and Converse is certainly one of them.

Went for Sunday brunch this morning, ordered blueberry pancakes with fruit. The pancakes were among the worst Ive ever eaten. They lacked flavor and were quite tough. There were no whole blueberries, only some splashes of blue color. I honestly believe these were frozen pancakes run through a toaster. The advertised fruit consisted of half a strawberry cut into pieces. I am not making this up.

I was pleasantly surprised when I first walked into Converse Deli. From the name, I expected a sports bar-type atmosphere. It is actually decorated with soft colors and ice-cream-parlour chairs. The food was yummy and original. Service was great! I plan to go back whenever possible.
