We might have gotten better treatment if we were Venezuelan, I suspect, but instead we got lectures from the owner/waiter about not touching the aloe plants and my daughter was told to "be still." Shes 4! This guy should go back home to work for Hugo Chavez. The worst part was when we had an accident at the table. The owner literally rolled his eyes, sighed, and tossed a roll of paper towels on the table. Then he stood behind the bar, watching, not lifting a finger while my wife and I were cleaning up the mess on our hands and knees. He seemed to enjoy our humiliation. The mess? My daughter threw up at the end of the meal -- not a good advertisement for the food. We eat out a lot, often at small ethnic places, and rarely get bad service, but this was the first time we were made to feel unwelcome. We will be exploring the many other South American eateries of Providence, Pawtucket and CF before we ever return to La Arepa.

I rock climb at the gym on Higgins Ave nearby. We were sent here on suggestion for lunch food by the gym workers and that has to be the best food recommendation Ive ever received. The food is simple and authentic (read not "health" food but definitely not greasy spoon). Ive not really divert from the arepas and Im not sure why you would need to, they are amazingly tastey, and have a build your own quality to them. Vegetarians are sort of relegated to the "domino" (named after the brand of black beans served, I think) but with avocados jammed in and a side of fried plantains cooked up just right, its hard to complain. Should you enjoy meat they have the Pabellion (sp?) some kind of stewed meat -my favorite in beef. Go there, eat well, and enjoy. Oh, service is great too. Jorge has recognized us since our third visit, always smiling.

My experience couldnt be more opposite to the Nov 13 review: we had a lovely meal here, were made to feel totally at home, and really enjoyed ourselves. The food was delicious. I had the Pabellon Arepa (those who are Red Sox fans may, like me, think of this as the "Papelbon") which was wonderful. My wife had the Reina, and we swapped about halfway though the meal. I think mine was a little better, but she thought hers was. Either way, well definitely be returning. Its not a fancy place by any means, but the food is good, reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is very appealing in a home-style kind of way.

The food is good but the customer service is not worth the money or time. Food takes very long. We called to place an order to go and when we got there we changed our mind and wanted to eat in the restaurant AND order more food but we werent allow to do so since we had order to go, when we explained that we wanted more food, we were told to make up our minds of what we wanted. Also just tries pre-ordering our food on the phone since they take so long, we were told that we needed to stop being lazy and order from the table. Rude!

This was a treat. The server was friendly and the arepas -- we had ground beef, pulled pork, and shrimp -- were marvelously tasty. They sell beer and wine and my Corona came icy-cold with a wedge of lemon. Dinner for the two of us was about $20. The only down side: if you take the bus to eat here dont stay later than the last bus at 7:00 or youll be stranded.

This place has an excellent atmosphere and delicious food. My family eats here on a regular basis. And lasts Monday we had a special treat Santa Mamba played there for over 3 and a half hours. If you are looking for great food with reasonable prices La Apera is the place to go!!!!!!!! And yes children are very much welcome.

Unnecessarily expensive. A small plate of rice beans and plantains is $13. One arepa is 7-8$. Our waiter had a HUGE attitude. The amount of food was definitely not worth the money. The rice tastes like it came out of a box and the beans just arent how your Abuelita makes them: I do not recommend.

We went here on a whim, I didnt know what a corn cake or arepa was but wow, it was delicious! Also split an entree on top of the arepas, it was a perfect amount of food. Also the green sauce... amazing... get it! Ill definitely go back!

The food is OK. They are very expensive and the give you a small amount of food.20 dollar for two Arepas. It a shame! You go somewhere else and for 20 dollar you can get more food never coming back to this place, you can go if you rich.

Good food but slightly overpriced.. A side of white rice for $4. Portions are all at the small side for the price. Will still be on my list but only when we want to try something different.

Food was ok. Too expensive for what it is. Food trucks in Boston serve better tasting arepas.
