I concur with one of the readers, the wait staff looks unahppy and VERY unhelpful. I asked if they had any other choices for children and was told NO, no bagels, or muffins. Whos serves breakfast and doesnt have theses ?? Also 20 minutes for the unhappy waitress to bring a cup of coffee. i asked what took so long and she told they had to brew a pot. Well why didnt she tell me that after I ordered it. The breakfast I order for the 3 children, chocolate chip pancakes were ummy, but the sides were ice cold. My Mexican egg dish was very over cooked. plus the sauce I asked on the side never arrived. We lived in Mexico so I do how this dish is supposed to be cooked. I asked the waitress for it and she told me that she told the kitchen staff to put it on the side but made no move to get it for me. This resturant is expensive but I want to buy local, they do not make it easy. We were not the only table that had problems, the one next to us asked for the owner. He finally put the Sunday paper down long enough to help her. I felt he should have been in the kitchen trying to figure out what was going wrong, not sitting outside with his dog reading the paper. With all the breakfast resturants in Providence, avoid this one like the plague.

I have been extremely happy almost every time Ive gone. Excellent food, lots of fresh things. They do have some cheese items, but can substitute vegan cheese very easily. They have lots and lots of business, so they do sometimes turn people away. For example, they dont usually make reservations for parties of less than six people. Service is good, if occasionally slow on a busy night (what do you expect?). Friendly and super helpful. EDIT July 27, 2009: With the downturned economy, the Garden Grille is often considerably less busy, so Ive sometimes risked it even on a Saturday night. Awesome food, excellent prices and services, would totally recommend it to vegan, vegetarian, or carnivore (no meat, but every carnivore Ive brought has found something they like). Be sure to ask how big the plate is. Some of their appetizers and entrees are somewhat small (to me), while others are HUGE. For example, if you order a plate of nachos as an appetizer, its practically an entire meal all by itself.

this restaurant is the only one of its kind and i am very grateful for that. the food is nutritious, creative and elegantly presented. if i could i would only eat here. as far as service goes, i notice a lot of people are quite critical of it and personally i find it very european and adequate. the restaurant itself is usually very busy and it is a small environment - i have observed that a lot of responsibility is placed on the servers and if you are only complaining about it its probably because you are feeling insecure, or expected them to hold your hand like they do at the texas roadhouse or you never worked in a restaurant. my advice is to have a more open mind and be grateful that this place exists and that you have the money to go there and eat :)

great food, experience and atmosphere! Wish I had gone long ago! Gluten free and vegan foods that I can eat! I also avoid corn and soy. This has not been a issue. Besides I just found out the cook was someone I have known for years! And I would like to add b/c of people comments about the staff.. they are all professional. Some of them do not naturally smile like Barbie and Ken, but they are wonderful, caring, happy people if you take the time to talk to them. It is ALWAYS busy there..and things get full fast. It is well worth the wait. I just hope they can expand soon to accommodate special needs people, which right now is just outside. I find they do their best and beyond.

Not a great experience, and I probably wont go back. I was super excited because I am a long-time vegetarian, and there are so few places around me. When I finally got a chance to go to Garden Grille, I was first shocked by the prices. A meal to go and a smoothie cost me close to $16.00! I ordered vegan mac and cheese, and I didnt open it until I got home, but I thought it felt a little light. For the price, I got about a cup of food. That seems a little crazy to me. And it wasnt even good. It had little flavor, it was grainy, and the broccoli wasnt even cooked. The smoothie was good, but not worth the price. Disappointing!

My hope is that someone reads this review.I am a retired chef. We travel to the Garden Grille twice a month for the past 5 years. We have had everything on the menu...cooked and presented to perfection. Their daily specials as well as their menu is creative. To write a review on a specific entree would be impossible because IT IS ALL GOOD. The Valentine Day and Harvest Fest [fall]is a historic dining experience. The waitstaff is knowledgable,attentive,friendly...among the best of any restaurant we have dined in.We live on the Cape and wish they were closer....To the owner....do not change. You have a winner here.

I have been to this restaurant about 5 times and every time I come in, it is very crowded, I sit down and the wait staff is terrible every time Ive been in there. Its not me, I am very polite and patient, because I like the vegan salad and I dont want them to tamper with it. But they treat me very cold and are so rude to me for no reason. They seem annoyed if I ask a question, and act like they are better than me just because there vegan! They rolled their eyes at my mother when she asked for a straw. After they give the food they will not look even when were calling them from across the room.

We arrived at 2:30 today as my husband just wanted a "healthy" meal on Fathers Day. His Sqush Quesadilla was delicious! I ordered a Caesar salad and was so disappointed with the lack of greens..the green of the Romaine lettuce. It looked like an iceberg salad. It was not worth the 10.00 and I literally had 4 bites, wrapped it up to take home and e xchange for real Romaine. Also, we felt the service was less than professional...we felt rushed, like we were bothering the help. Yes, its a busy day, a holiday, but the service should be no different than any other day. Disappointed.

Im shocked at the amount of decent reviews this place has recieved !! The decor is nice but other than that this place SUCKS!! The service is deplorable as the waitstaff is shockingly unfriendly. The food is terrible as they try to make very interesting combinations however fail on every level of texture and flavor. Its almost as if the chef hasnt even the tasted the food before, yes it is THAT bad. The only redeeming factors are The nachos and grilled sweet potatos, things a 5 year old could make. Gross.

I went 6/23/17. My girlfriend is in providence hospital. Shes been in for a week. We are vegan, and it took two days for the hospital figured out what to fix her. (I know its not hard). A nurse to me about your place, so I went to get her something besides rice and beans for 6 days. I ordered the Reuben sandwich and a vegan burger. The Reuben hands down was the best sandwich I ever had. We live in Connecticut, but we will go back. Thank you for your amazing food.
