On Thursday night, we ate at close to the base at Newport Tokyo House. Prices were similar to our local Japanese hibachi restaurant. However, we thought this was some of the worst tasting Japanese food we have ever eaten. Hibachi tables did not have AC working. It was like 90F inside, but a handheld controller said 66F, which was a joke. We decided to sit at a regular table on the other side of the restaurant, which was cool and nice. ALL meals we ordered had seasoning sprinkled over the food, which tasted like Old Bay seasoning. So, imagine a teriyaki taste mixed with Old Bay. Disgusting. Shrimp was dry, tasted like it had been precooked and sitting for awhile, sprinkled with sauce and Newport seasoning. Fried rice was more gray, than normal fried rice. It also just tasted blech....couldnt eat it. Other meals looked good, well presented, however, they were bland and tasteless sans Newport seasoning/Old Bay like. It was a weird experience and that "smell" of the seasoning lingered for hours. If I lived here, I would never return. Good notes: appeared clean, loved their napkins.

Worst Japanese steakhouse ever. I went there with my friend and order fried rice and udon noodle dish. Waitress came out soon after with the stalest rice dish I have ever seen. Taste gross and there was no flavor on it. Ask for some sauce to put on it and the staff here doesnt seem to understand English too well because we had to ask 3 different waitress. They end up delivering the sauce with an attitude. Udon was at best mediocre. Needless to say, worst Japanese steakhouse Ive ever been too.

Took the family here for my birthday. The service was timely. The food (hibachi) was under seasoned which is an almost never occurring thing with hibachi, the chicken was dry. The hibachi "show" was very short and extremely dissapointing. Although the servers were friendly, the atmosphere and dinner were definitely not the "best in newport" as some have claimed. Oh and it smelled funny in the restaurant. I would not recommend this place. Im trying Mizus in middletown next time. .

The location was easy to find. The atmosphere has a real traditional Japanese feel, just missing the tatami mats. The food was as authentic as it gets. Starting with the complimentary salad topped with a ginger dressing. Then tried the Miso soup, was great. The squid was fresh and cooked right. The Shrimp and vegetables tempura was as good as in actual Japan. Their prices are amazingly in the fair range. Strongly recommend this restaurant.

It would be zero stars if that were an option. We have been regular customers of Tokyo house however last night was our very last time. The delivery drive yelled at my teenage daughter for not giving him a big enough tip! He was very rude and continued to argue with me when I went to the door to tell him to stop. I had to actually close and lock the door to get him to stop. I have called the restaurant several times and they could care less.

Literally days from leaving Japan and coming to Newport after living in Japan for three years....this by far was the WORST Japanese food I have EVER had. I will NEVER eat here again. The Udon didnt come in a bowl but rather place in a plate like knock-off spaghetti. The sushi tasted as if it was expired. I took one bite and just quickly paid for my food and left. This place is a terrible representation of Japan. Two thumbs down.

Weve were in Newport for a week and dined here twice. The first time was at the hibachi grill table. The food was excellent, the portions were ample and the chef was entertaining. The second time we had sushi and it was superb. The staff is very friendly and polite and this restaurant is charming and one of the cleanest dining establishments we have experienced anywhere. Highly recommended!

Need to have servers that understand English enough to get your order in. Med rare became medium well.... No sushi was ever ordered or brought after it was requested. Had to repeatedly ask for items ordered like the "wine".. After a server that understood English came over all was corrected and the food was good. Just a little frustrating to get there.

Went to this place after being told it was the best for sushi in Newport. If this is the best I wont be getting sushi in Newport ever again. The nigiri sushi is poorly made. Rice falling apart and the knife skills on the fish were lacking. My fish looked like it had been hacked about. The quality of said fish is also poor.

Regular customer. Waited 1 hour and 15 minutes, was ignored, lied too, came back twice, only to find out my order was just started. The manager was hiding from all of the customers. No apologies. I dont normally write reviews.... awful. Happy Valentines Day. See ya later.

Tokyo House is a local favorite. The food is exceptional and the atmosphere is pleasant. I cant speak for the hibachi as I always get the sushi when I go but I have never been let down by the sushi. Service is always speedy and servers are nice.

Great lil sushi spot, the owners down the street at Raw power juice bar suggested this place and it hit the spot for a quick bite after doing the cliff walk. Affordable but not cheap quality. Will definitely be back when in Newport

Fish was fresh and well prepared. Service was friendly. Prices were reasonable. Restaurant itself has a more pleasant and inviting atmosphere inside than the picture of the outside of the restaurant on the website would suggest.

Hibatchi wasnt very entertaining but the food was good and cooked to perfection. Atmosphere was a little out dated. Reasonable pricing! Would eat here again !

Finally! In the United States, there is a place you can eat sushi all day & not die. It is not limping to your table! The best we have had since we left Japan!

The best Japanese food in Newport. Servers barely speak English so try not too make any modifications to your orders. Hibachi is great and entertaining
