ok, i read the earlier review by the local basta patron of over 20 years. im one too. and i have visited the restaurant 3 times since its opening. heres the scoop - interior is fresh and bright. it is louder, but it is just different, not bad. and its lovely. overlook the suspenders on the bar staff that look like benigans, because its open now , and while you might miss the old basta - the new one, while different, is great. its under new ownership ( old landlord with a colorful past ) has created the revamped basta with his kids. we were REALLY skeptical of the pizzas because really, who needs yet another pizza place. they are impressed with the oven, and its cool, but the pizzas are on the pricey side, and all the prices have been hiked a bit. faces? youll see some of the old ones. mark, guisseppi, chuck, and 2 of the kitchen staff remain. it is beyond great to see them. as a whole they are new and are still working thru growing pains. but this is a worthy place not to be discarded. the food is a little different, and the menu far expanded. they are really putting in an effort to put the old favorites back as they were. lets talk chicken parm. EVERYONE loved anthony and joannes chicken parm. celebrity chefs came specifically for the old simple rendition of the dish. the new basta chef has heard and is doing his best to recreate what we all loved so much. really, we get really cranky when you mess up our chicken parm. but having had it now twice - its getting closer and closer to the old fav. other dishes are fantastic. meatballs alforno, fresh fish dishes, salted dried fava beans at the bar ... for your nice chianti ! honestly, i have nothing bad to say. in our neighborhood, we are so lucky to have brilliant dining options within walking distance. you cant beat that. and basta, while new, is a great addition. look, if you are an old-timer like me (us) sure youre gonna miss the old one. BUT, it wasnt going to last forever, and how fortunate are we that the new owners care and listen to the patrons and bend over backwards to accommodate. im hoping to redo this review in 3 months and say its al excellent. its heading in that direction!

My boyfriend took me their for my 50th birthday. Early on a Sat evening and it was NOT busy. The waiter was very young, unexperienced and nervous. With the prices they charge I would like better service. Everything we asked about he need to go ask one of the owners. My drink was small and tasted like koolaid, the appetizer was ok but for the price 3 shrimp seemed skimppy for $12.00!. But the best was when we both ordered the Filet special. Mine came out very overcooked. They took it back and after waiting 20 min for a new one my boyfriend was done eating and I had lost my appetite. We even told them we wanted to eat together. The owner offered free dessert..are you kidding me???? How about not charging us for one of the $30 Filets? It was just a bad experience in every aspect... save your money and eat elsewhere!

I went here based on the other reviews that I saw and I am sorry I did. Dont get me wrong, the food was good and the service was fun. But $20 for veal parm was not worth it. I had to suck down as much bread as I could to stretch the meal and make it 2 meals. If it was priced at $13 it would have been worth it. Other people who said that the prices were not bad are people who are more well off than the average person and probably dont even know it. It was good, but too pricey, will never eat there again. Seems like most Italian restaurants are jokes these days. $15 for a plate of frikin pasta, you got something wrong in the head. Ill make that same pasta enough to fill 4 people for $5. Talk about a rip-off, over hyped and overpriced for the rich community. Give me a break.

I heard about this place from one of my customers at work and it was suppose to be a great place. I took my boyfriend for his birthday along with his family for dinner here we had a party of 13.My experience here wasnt so great. The waiter was not warming at all. My boyfriend, family n friends are all interracial, and i feel that we were stereotyped tonight. The food was ok but the price on some of the plates was not at all worth the price. 4 raviolis $28 amongst many more. Its overrated if you ask me. Overall Very disappointed with the service.

Absolutely amazing Italian food. The bolognese is my favorite dish on the menu, but Ive never had anything that I didnt just love. My other favorites include the chicken parmesan (photo), the chicken marsala, the pizza carbonara (photo), pizza prosciutto, calamari, ceasar salad, tirimisu, and the cheesecake (photo). Honestly, you cant go wrong. Its all delicious, authentic Italian food. The drink specials are always festive and yummy, and the ambience is a mix of modern, rustic, and classic. My favorite restaurant in all of New England, hands down.

Basta Italian Restaurant in the Pawtuxet section of Cranston. I went there on my visit in September to move back to RI where I was born and raised. What a great place! They had a special salad that was the best salad Ive ever eaten, and the entree was outstanding. The waiter was experienced, excellent, the atmosphere was lovely, full but never noisy. The room is luxurious and cozy, romantic. Now we live in Cranston and I am taking my husband there tonight so he can know what I already know - this is a wonderful restaurant.

My daughter and I took my granddaughter and several friends there last night, 4/1/17 for dinner, to celebrate her 17th birthday. Our waiter was anything but personable, he acted as if he was bored waiting on us. The food was just "ok ", to be honest, for the prices we paid, some of the portions were very small. We werent even asked if we wanted a refill on our coffees. Our bill was $330.00, we left a $70.00 tip, at least a thank you would have been nice. Wont be visiting again, very disappointed.

We have really tried to enjoy this place. However, the food is hit or miss and always way overpriced. The place is crowded and loud. My last visit I went alone, sat at the bar hoping to get a simple pasta dish, and after almost an hour, got pasta with a sweet sauce that was really quite disgusting. I gave it four tries; that last visit was the nail in the coffin. With so many really good places to go, why accept mediocre?

I was thrilled with the atmosphere of Basta, the food and the service! If you can, sit in the back by the fireplace. Its a lot quieter than the front of the house. The homemade meatballs were to die for, the flight of wine was delicious and the pasta was homemade. The food was brought out at the right time; didnt have to wait too long and we didnt feel rushed either. Highly recommend Basta for date night!
