Ive been here a few times and each time this place delivers. Its located in the heart of Old City so be sure to plan for parking. I found a spot about a block away on a Saturday night - which honestly isnt bad considering how crowded it gets around the area. The place has a southern saloon vibe, and drinks to match. Entering in, theres a main bar area that takes up most of the space, and then there is seating scattered throughout the outskirts. In the summer months, there is also outdoor seating available with heated lamps and good people watching haha. Getting the bartenders attention to order drinks was probably the biggest gripe. My guest and I peered the drinks menu and opted for a wine and a mule. The bar was pretty packed when we first arrived and I sort of felt that I was interrupting a private party. In any case, after about 10 minutes - we were finally asked for our orders, and they were promptly delivered. For a busy night, they only had two bartenders (and it spans a large space) - I think another hand wouldve helped keep things moving better. I did like that we were able to take our drinks and sit down in the dining area without needing order food. It allowed for us to enjoy the venue and still have space for ourselves and conversation. The establishment does have a full menu (and brunch is also offered on the weekends) so will definitely return to check that out. Overall - a great place for drinks, vibe, and appealing menu!

This place has really gone downhill. We came on a slow Sunday and ordered 2 cocktails, 2 sandwiches and fries to share. Cocktails were fine as they always are, but had to ask for water which everyone else had already. Bartender came back to say the softshell crab BLT was not not available. No apology just stated they were out. Now it was around 1pm and again it was slow so either they only had a few portions for the day or more likely, they were out to begin with and this was not communicated to the patrons. The fries came out immediately (No ketchup or dipping sauce offered), not with the rest of our food. My dish came out first (No flatware or napkins, again we had to ask) and I waited for my husbands dish so we could eat together. My chicken sandwich was fine, husbands bacon tamale was tiny and I certainly didnt see the bacon but we just wanted out at this point. Terrible experience for a $75 (before tip) brunch for 2 at a place that has usually been on point (minor disappointments in the past but nothing like this). Management really needs to get involved in the hiring/ training process. As of this point, there are too many great places that value customer service and we will not be back.

First, Id like to say that our server was excellent, and given the circumstances, was going above and beyond. Our meal, on the other hand, was a bit of a fiasco. My girlfriend ordered a cocktail with their infused gin, but the server returned to tell us they were completely out of the gin. Ok, no problem, its just a drink. We began to order food, my mom ordered the ribs, but then we found out they were out of ribs. We go around the table and my girlfriend ordered the veggie burger. The server let us know that they were out of that, as well. My mom ended up ordering one of their ham platters, which was described accurately, but she just did not care for it. The food we ordered that they did have was great. The grilled corn, crab cakes, pork empanadas, french fries, and tuna tartare were all excellent. After our meal the manager/owner came over, made sure we were ok, and brought two desserts. I was happy with how the restaurant handled it, but I wish we were notified earlier that a significant portion of the menu was not available. My girlfriend and I have discussed it, and we will likely return, but probably sit at the bar and stick to small plates/burgers.

This was our second trip this month. We traveled 90 minutes from Allentown and we loved the ambiance, the scotch menu and that succulent catfish offering! The service is notably friendly here and we had a blast listening to the local New Orleans style Jazz band that was playing. There is one big problem here. It was Saturday night and we had to park 3 blocks down the street in a residential area as all the local parking garages were full. Officer Appleton was there as I squeezed into the parking spot to record my license. I started the timer on my iPhone to make sure I was back within the 2 hours (so I could again drive around to find an open parking garage). Two hours and four minutes after I parked, Officer Appleton was ticketing my car. My appeal was politely declined. Congratulations Mayor Nutts, you earned $36 for the city but will be losing a great deal of tax revenue and goodwill as I take my entertainment dollars out of the city of Philadelphia. Unfortunately, great places like the Twisted Tail will suffer for the citys stupidity.

Oh Twisted Tail, how I love you. My co-workers and I often go here for lunch, and we normally sit at the bar. We also hold our Christmas Party here, so obviously weve gotten to know a lot of the workers here, and they are all very sweet and knowledgeable about whiskeys and all that fun stuff. Fun fact, they do a whiskey list type of thing, where you can get a list that they store, and theyll check off the different whiskeys that you have tried on the list. Once you finish the entire list (and by entire, I mean like, 50+???), you get your own glass that is stored at Twisted Tail with a little plaque above the bar. How cool. Wines are okay, but well, its a whiskey bar. Tempranillo is usually my go to red there. The Burger is one of my favorites, along with the buttermilk chicken. And the brusselsprouts. And the sweet potato fries. Empanadas? Check. Just go there.

Saturday night on South Street and we were surprised this place was not packed! Once the world finds out about this little treasure, well be fighting for a table. The four of us each started off with a different bourbon, so we could taste the broadest range of bourbons. There selection is the best around including bourbons you cant usually find around Philadelphia. We started off with the mussels appetizer which was flavorful and cooked well. We continued with an order of the chefs special chicken shank, two pork belly entrees, and the beef cheeks. Everything was SO delicious that we shared all our plates! We had another round of bourbon and even tried the fudge brownie (super rich!) and shortcake desserts! Our service was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our time. We will be back!

This place was awesome! We spent the day in the city and were looking for a nice place to relax and listen to live music. We found this place had a blues band (with no cover charge) so we decided to check it out. The band (Mike Mettalia and Midnight Shift) was awesome, the drink selection was massive, service was exceptional and the food was absolutely wonderful! My husband ordered sea bass and it just melted in your mouth. I had the wild mushroom toast and was so delighted; the earthiness of the mushrooms with the thick, yet crunchy, ricotta toast won my heart......and my palate! Definitely worth going!
