My wedding was the first time I was ever at The Moshulu. I was looking for an affordable option that my guests could drive to from New Jersey after the ceremony. I chose The Moshulu over Lambertville Inn, which was the same price and the same distance away. The catering manager was super nice and very easy to communicate with until the contract was signed, then she was pretty much unreachable until 3 days prior to the reception. This was really annoying as I was trying to send her images of a wedding cake for the baker at the restaurant - I had to send them a total of 5 times over e-mail, before my husband called her and she asked me to send it a 6th time and she finally responded to it. The brunch was beautiful, the food was great. The waiters were amazing for the first 3 hours. Our contract was for 4 hours. The last hour, they were competing with having to take down the "other" brunch, which is the main brunch for the restaurant on Sunday. Because of this, I had to ask the bartender to bring in someone to cut the cake. (which the groom and I had already cut for photos 20 minutes prior). By the time they were prepared to serve the cake and take final tea/coffee orders, most of my guests were gone. Because of this, they started throwing cake into over a dozen plastic take-away boxes, many of which were left at the restaurant. The cake, which traded in the contract instead of having petit fours, was supposed to be a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese icing. The middle layer of icing was butter cream, which killed the effect, but probably saved The Moshulu money. Its sad that they skimped on something that they had agreed to do. There is a major discrepancy between the cost of a buffet for the public (around $32 a person) and the Mermaid Buffet for weddings ($55. a head w/out extras). I can understand this to a point, as weddings are supposed to have "dedicated staff" for all 4 hours. The regular price for walk-ins includes unlimited alcoholic drinks. The wedding price does not include any drinks. I found it interesting as I tried to bargain before the contract was signed for them to throw in a glass of champagne for toasts. They agreed to 1/2 a glass of champagne???? Kind of tacky. Finally, after 3 weeks, there has not been one follow up with the restaurant. I never met the events coordinator that helped with the contract and there was no contact person that i ever met - even a the reception itself. I had follow up calls and emails from the hotels, the photographer - even the hairdresser - but not one from the restaurant. I am very disappointed by this. Weddings must be kind of like cattle that they herd through one at a time. Dont expect any warm customer care here. The location is great for photo shoots. I would just be careful that you stress everything you need upfront in the contract. They came through 50%. Thus, my wedding reception was 50% perfect. Which, isnt perfect enough for the price paid in this economy - (when everything to do with weddings is still so expensive for what you get) and the stress of planning. Perhaps I should have tried Lambertville Inn after all.

Please save your money and dont waste your time!! My girlfriend and I were eager to go out to a nice dinner and have been wanting to try Moshulu for quite a bit of time. We made a reservation and upon arriving we were astonished with how great the ambiance was. As we entered, the less than thrilled hosts told us that we would have to wait half an hour if we wanted to be seated outside. It would have been nice if that was mentioned on the phone considering most people that come to dinner here want to sit outside. We decided to wait at the bar and it took about ten minutes for the bartender to even acknowledge us and offer us a menu. Half an hour later, the host approached us and said " I guess I can seat now". We got to our table and our server took quite a bit of time to get to us. We ordered our food and the appetizer alone took forever to come out. As the servers brought out the food, they had no clue what food was going to what table. They were looking around and yelling out asking who ordered what. This was completely appalling. Multiple times they tried to bring us food we didnt order and when our order finally came out, we had to raise our hand for it. Looking around, a couple to the left of us had walked out and left due to bad service and two people in front of us had already complained about the service. Next, our server came up to us and was about to hand us a check and then looked up and realized he was at the wrong table, didnt say a word, and walked away. We hadnt even had our appetizer at this point. We were watching the other orders come out and for the price range of the restaurant there was barely any food on the plate. And the final straw was seeing the servers still confused about whose food was whose. I watched them come up to multiple tables and get it wrong. I dont understand how they dont have table numbers or a more organized staff. For the ambiance and price range of the restaurant, the staff should be way more experienced, put together, and attentive. We didnt want to leave any more money at this horrible facility so we left and finished our dinner somewhere else. As we were walking out, another couple was walking out mid dinner and talking about how ridiculous it was. Philadelphia has so much great food to offer please do not waste your time coming here. The Moshulu is nothing more than a gimmicky tourist attraction that scams you out of money and time.

I went there on Sunday, May 29th around 5:30PMish and asked the hostess (petite girl with dark brown hair) about getting a table so i could order some oysters. I had on a sundress, and my husband was in khaki shorts and a t-shirt. My 6 year old daughter was with us. We went in there on a whim so we didnt have a reservation. The girl took one look at us, and said slowly, "I dont think we have anything available" with a weird tone like she was not going to seat us. So I asked her nicely to double-check. She pretended to pull up something on the computer and said "Nope!" Everything is booked for the whole night! And we were not going to be able to get anything there. She was not nice or even friendly. I cant believe this girl is the first person people see when they walk into the restaurant. Maybe, it was just us. So I walked out and told my husband that I am going to call the restaurant in 1 minute and asked for a table. If I am able to book something over the phone, I am going to march right back in there and say something to her. I had a feeling she didnt want to seat us by the way we were dressed. It was Sunday, and we were casually dressed to roller skate with my daughter. When I called 1 minute after walking out, this amazing guy answered the phone. He said "we are booked for tonight, but the bar is always open for walk-ins!" I felt so much better that this guy offered us another option. Who knows if he would say the same if he saw us, but at least he was nice and very helpful on the phone. I suggest that hostess receive additional training. She made it sound like it was harder to get a table there than Vetri. She was racist for sure!
