This place has great Margaritas and drink specials. I love their burritos, tacos and wings. The atmosphere is laid back. It can get get loud and crowded on the weekends, especially when it is cold. If you go late, you could wait over an hour for a table. During the warmer months, they offer outdoor seating. We always have nice servers. I love almost everything about this place. The reason I gave this place 4 stars is the lack of consistancy with the food. I have been going for years, and I know what they are capable of. I have had my share of inconsitancies that angered others enough to make bad reviews. Ive had the food that was too spicy to enjoy (even mild dishes), cold food and once ocassion when the food was not flavorful. I guess it depends on who is cooking. These inadequacies are isolated and not enough for me to not return. I recommend giving this place another shot if you didnt enjoy it the first time around. Again, they have their "inconsistant" days. lol. They really do have delicious food.

The management of MadMex was incredibly rude and made me suspect that my friends and I were refused service based on our race. It was graduation day and my friend was in her cap and gown. There was a nondescript man standing near the outdoor patio entrance, and we entered. Then, we were told we could not be served alcohol. The bouncer said it was because we walked past him and didnt immediately present ID, and we wondered how were we supposed to know this guy smoking a cigarette was an authority. The manager then informed us they had the right to deny us service for no real reason. It was incredibly rude, and seemingly racist. No matter the reason, it was unacceptable and gave me a horrible impression of UPenn. I will never return.

After two bad meals, I probably wont go to Mad Mex for the food anymore. The ingredients are not fresh, our rice and beans seemed a day old at least, and the quality is not that impressive either. The chips were stale and the guacamole was average at best. Chicken in the burritos was chewy and just not cooked well and the fish on the Mahi Mahi tacos was awful. That said, the restaurant does have a great bar. The margaritas are excellent and the beer selection is excellent. They have a lot of micro brews on tap that you usually only find in good beer bars. I wont be back for dinner, but will most likely return for drinks. If Im hungry enough, the buffalo chicken tacos were not terrible, so I could go for them.

Walked in here with my fiancé on a hot Friday night after work. It was so hot inside when we sat down I couldnt breath. It was like the air conditioner was turned off completely. Service was terrible worst Ive ever had. Had to ask the waitress for a water 3 times. I eventually got up and got a water for my fiancé from the bartender myself. It was so hot and stuffy in there we had to get our food to go couldnt even eat there. We got the hell out of there as fast as we could. Its a shame because we dined there before and had better experiences. Food was mediocre. I paid $43 + tip to sweat my ass off and get my own water. I will never go back here again.

Looking to expand our circle of restaurants, starving, and in the neighborhood, hubby suggested Mad Mex. We scored parking, fed the meter then proceeded to feed ourselves. Our waiter was wonderful and, upon noticing my Notre Dame hat, even changed the t.v. by our table to the football game. We started with black cherry house margaritas, guacamole, and pennsyltucky fried tofu. Yes, tofu. Hubs had a burrito and I had the Mexican street corn and steak tacos. Two more magaritas, his strawberry and hers raspberry, and we were done! Generous portions of good food, am unbeatable formula. Well definitely be back.

More like Mad Mess. When my food came, it was meant for three people, several orders of chips and salsa, and tortilla shells were missing. Called them and they refused to re-deliver. The Chicken Rice Bean Burrito I ordered was dry and desperately needed to be drowned in sauce and more seasoning. The fries my sister ordered werent that great either. Ive eaten frozen grocery store fries that have tasted better than those. If anyone wants good Mexican Food, go to Qudoba, youll save money too. This place is too expensive for the poor quality food they serve.

I went to Mad Mex on October 2nd and my experience was horrible, first off it was happy hour and i was a regular until now!!! When i was finally seated at 6:26 and placed my order ate and drank got my bill and i was charged regular price!! When i ask to speak to the manager he said that NO ONE was guaranteed the happy hour price in which i thought was rediculious!!!. i will never ever go back and i will let ALL of my friends and colleagues no about my experience and take there business else where!!!!

Just came from there about 10 minutes ago and was put in a corner by a white waitress . I am a black man and so is my wife we felt that was very unnecessary. After asking for a better spot was put in a more in a corner. When asked to speak with a manager the manager was very unprofessional as well . I am not a sensitive person but I understand racial profiled still exits . It just felt like we was profiled by the waitress for whatever reason and that the manager was right along wit it. Sad very sad

Great happy hour and outdoor patio! Half off all drafts from a large tap list (~20 beers that rotate constantly). Theres also specials on their big azz (22oz) margaritas, which come in standard flavors (lime, strawberry, etc) plus a monthly rotating flavor. The food is pretty good as well, Im especially fond of the tortilla soup, guac, and boneless wings (San Francisco sauce). As it is on Penns campus, make sure to bring an ID and you may want to avoid it on the first/last weeks of a semester.

When youre starving and accompanied by a ten-year old thats equally as famished and you wait forty minutes and still have no food for a table of five adults and one child, it really kills the experience. And youre offered the excuse that, its the fajita that was ordered?? And then earlier in the evening, our party received two straws and told, "We ran out"with no attempt to appease. What establishment know for drinks runs out of straws?! #horrendous Not the Mad Mex I remember!

Giving this place five stars as they were very friendly for vegans. They made my dish with vegan sour cream and vegan cheese. The food portions were quite surprising, and everything tasted wonderful. The time that I visited they also had Dragons Milk on tap, which was the first time I drank that beer not bottled and it was incredible. Have visited for beer, and now have enjoyed the food, I will be back in the future to try some more dishes.

Food was okay. Service sucked. We waited 45mins for our food only to get it cold and then told the kitchen was backed up so it was goong to be a while to refire. After all that it came out wrong. The waiter only came by like every 15mins and left our drinks empty.Asked for a refill and it took 10mins to get a soda. While no one was rude verbally their actions were rude and no one really seemed to care
