The 1863 Restaurant is located at the Wyndham Hotel in Gettysburg where my wife and I were staying for several days. My wife has severe food allergies and has difficulties finding places to eat. So she called ahead and asked to speak with the chef to explain her needs. Chef Claude Rodier personally called my wife back within a few hours of her call and took notes on her needs. He then told her that he was going to be out of town on the day we arrived but rest assured his staff would be able to cook for her within her dietetic limitations. Sure enough upon arrival, Restaurant Manager John Mejias assured my wife that they had been briefed by Chef Claude to expect my wife and I as well as his notes on how to prepare meals for her. My wife was able to order a different meal each time we went to the restaurant and each time it was expertly prepared. We ate several dinners, lunch and breakfast at the restaurant and can attest to the quality and freshness of everything we ate. While there are many restaurants to choose from in Gettysburg, the 1863 Restaurant certainly deserves to be on your short list of great places to go.

If I could give no stars, I would. Our server, Janet, was not attentive. We saw her three times. Once fifteen minutes after we were seated to ask if we were ready to order, without even taking a drink order. She brought our appetizer. A manager brought our entrees and ignored our empty glasses. No one checked on how our meals were. If they had we could have at least brought our displeasure to their attention. We did not see her again until we flagged her down to ask for our check after my husbands drink sat empty for thirty minutes. The food was subpar and not worth the prices. Mind you, the restaurant was not busy which would be the only possible slight excuse for such abominable service.

Finally, some great dining has arrived in Gettysburg! Having spent some time here, I was told to check this place out. Although our waitress wasnt the best (although the other ones appeared to be great), the food here was great and priced very well. I had the pork rolls, which couldnt have been any fresher. 1863 is located in Wyndam hotel, so its pretty easy to find.

Stopped here at 1pm, had the place to ourselves! Very elegant carefully plated dishes. Atmosphere is still very casual. Crab lunch entree cake was great. We loved the solitude but they deserve more traffic from non-hotel patrons. Service was so polite.

Ok, for a hotel retaurant. Pricey ($16 breakfast buffet), thought the service a little slow considering how few patrons were there at the time.
