There are a few restaurants that exist in their own class, where the word, “restaurant,” seems less appropriate, and words like, “home,” “community,” and “the most delicious food I have ever eaten,” are much more accurate descriptors. Howard’s Station Cafe is one of these places. Also, it’s next door to what used to be the library, so it earns some bonus points there. While my husband and I were in Occidental, we ate at Howards as many times as we could. EVERYTHING was fresh, homemade, and delicious--the nutty waffle with REAL whipped cream, pecan and blueberry pancakes, eggs with cheese, primo potatoes, and fruit smoothies. The environment was always super-friendly, and when we went with locals, they always ran into someone that they knew. We often dream about Howards now that were back home, and were looking forward to being close enough to make it back!

When you go away.. go there. Historically substantial and without pretense. And when you leave, turn right or left and go West.. Until you arrive in Bodega Bay or Jenner.. And have dinner. Rivers End or The Tides.. Then go away again, this time East.. New York perhaps. Try the River Cafe in Brooklyn. Then hop a train and go to Alaska. Make a bunch of friends in the dining car. And tell em about Howards in Occidental. Then look out the window, and drift off, as you teeter on the edge of melancholia.

Very poor tasting food along with Undercooked pork. One side black and the other was not cooked at all. This was my second time at this place. Had the same problem the last time. Undercooked Pork. I even ask the waiter to have the pork cooked Well done. She never even check to see. I dont like to give out bad reviews but I just cant handle undercooked Pork... along with poor service. I will not go back to Hawards Cafe.

A local of the area recommended this place and it’s got a cool vibe an friendly service. I grabbed one chocolate chip and one oatmeal-cowboy cookie for the road to share with my husband. They were OK - interesting texture and kinda salty, but personally I wasn’t the hugest fan. They weren’t bad, just not that distinctive. That said, I’ll probably be back to try the regular food menu next time I’m in the area.

Fantastic breakfast. Lots of places *say* they have fresh squeezed orange juice, but Howards juices take it to another level. Great coffee here too. And the breakfast items, including pancakes, waffles, biscuits, etc., do not disappoint. Just be sure to bring cash (its cash only) and be prepared to wait a bit, especially if you have a larger group or come on a holiday.

Not having been here for over 7 years, the menu had changed little. The wait staff was friendly and there is almost always a wait for a table. They only accept cash. The food was not what it had been but still very enjoyable. The smoothies were really good as were the coffee drinks. I had an omelette which was a lot of food so you will not leave hungry.

Really great food, the breakfast is the best. Most ingredients are locally sourced and organic. The menu has a lot of variety. The staff is very friendly and courteous. This is our favorite breakfast place in the Russian River area. We look forward to coming here every summer. Cash only but they do have an ATM.

Great breakfast and service. Awesome decor and vibe inside. This place is cash only, but they do have an ATM near their restrooms. I was surprised by their good selections of juices and smoothies using locally sourced ingredients. Prices are definitely on par with the quality. Good times!

Friendly, country-style cafe with exhaustive options for breakfast and lunch plus a long list of juice blends and smoothies (try the Sonoma - apple and blackberry.) Feels historic and tough to believe the restaurant has only been around since the 80s. Definitely worth a stop.

Good breakfast, Great Waffles(a must!) and nice "homie" atmosphere. The staff are friendly and so are their patrons. This place can get busy so be prepared far a little wait, but totally worth it. Dont forget to bring cash cuz they dont take plastic.

Menu had many choices without being overwhelming or overpriced considering this is a boutique town. Food was good, service with a smile, cash only but ATM on site. Will have to come back again. PS, come early as this is a popular place.

This gem is literally my favorite breakfast spot. Everything on the menu is great and the atmosphere is a lot of fun (bustling, cozy, and slightly rustic). I make it a point to go to Howards every time Im in the area. Note: its cash only.

Really interesting rest stop on the way to Bodega Bay with a friendly staff and substantial brunch menu. Enjoyed their Irish Hash and refreshing tea on their pleasant outdoor patio although it overlooked the parking lot.

Strong coffee, high quality ingredients. Great food at a reasonable price. I had the smoked salmon florentine omelette, super impressed and pleasantly surprised to find this place on our way home after camping in the area.

Simple delicious breakfasts. Loads of great options. I love the blue berry Belgian waffles, the French toast, the pecan pancakes. Have never had anything that disappointed. To bad it is so far away from where I live.

Super friendly diner / cafe with high-quality ingredients and a wide variety of food options. Excellent coffee, too - try the Hammerhead - a coffee with double shot of espresso and frothy milk poured on top.

Quality breakfast. Friendly service. Cute old building/house. We will be back. This place would even get a high rating from me in San Francisco so it gets extra points out here. Give it a try, its great.

This is the best breakfast/lunch restaurant in Sonoma County! Their food is DELICIOUS. I am on my way to having ordered one of everything from the menu and everything is out of this world. GO!

Best lemonade Ive had on this trip! Also the pancakes are fresh, and the pure maple syrup was really good. Service was great and the staff was pretty friendly. Also the place is cash only.

Cash only, wont serve lunch before 12:30, and wont serve breakfast past 12:30. Very crowded, maybe an inch of space between tables. Food was tasty, wait was average given how crowded it was.

Usually great. 3 stars for that. Yesterdays experience was not that great. Ordered a burrito and it was cold. Paid for extra salsa and never got it. Mabey next time will be better.

Extremely popular place for breakfast & lunch. We were there on a Sunday around noon and the place was a "mad-house". Very nice selections on the menu and the food we ordered was great.

Stopped here for lunch while doing a Wine Powered Bicycle Tour and on our way out to Bodega Bay. Definitely a "must stop" before hitting the hills to the coast. In vino, vis!!!
