Just tried these guys out, the food is excellent. My cheese enchilada was melted and had very good enchilada sauce (seriously, Ive never had one so good). The chimichanga was so good with the homemade tortilla and despite getting it a la carte (as a side), it still came with guac and sour cream (the guac didnt get a cup of cilantro dumped on it either!). Then their tamale had some tasty meat (reminded me of a nice, juicy roast cut up), but the corn breading was a bit thick and Id almost say it was watered down? Im not sure how to explain it. Ive only had a tamale like that at the Salem Saturday Market. Lastly, I didnt order but tried the fajitas (lots of meat, onion, and peppers), beans, homemade tortillas, and rice (moist and flavorful)... they were all good. So all in all, the food was excellent. ^_^ BTW for those, like me, who have a low tolerance for spicy food, the guacamole has a little spice to it and the salsa is very spicy. The decor was ok, I gave it a 2 because the menus were so old they are becoming hard to read and Ive never really liked keno tv. The service was mixed. The people were very nice, but they arent exactly fast. We took our time checking out the menu so we didnt notice, but we saw a person from another group track down the waitress to order and it took so long to get our bill that I finally just went to the front counter. There really werent that many people there. The food is so great that Id eat there again, but they may have to speed things up if they want it to become a regular for me.

I visited Los Baez lancaster location and was less then impressed by the food and service about 10 years ago and never went back. I recently went to the south location thinking they seem to be busier maybe I will have better service/food...no such luck. The drink menu is very small and they are not able to make the basic mexican drinks so I ordered a another drink which was basically the Drowning Marlins recipe from McGraths. I ordered the enchilada platter and the mole sauce was maybe out of a can and the beans were from a can and cold. The rice was "spanish" rice not sure why they dont serve mexican rice but either way it was ice cream scooped in a mushy ball on plate, also VERY overpriced. The chips were stale but warm and the service was ok, the "bartender" was our waiter and was very nice and did what he could with what he had. The drinks were served in lottery glasses, which was funny but yet sad. I am not sure who oversees the kitchen but the food needs help. I hope they can visit La Hacienda or some of the other places that get it right every time. The salsa was pretty basic and it seemed fresh so that was a plus and the guy working the bar area was very nice. I wish them the best and hope they can serve real mexican food. I dont mean to be harsh but I challenge you to experience it yourself and see what you think.

This place has a lot of PROS and CONS: PRO - The people are friendly. CON - It hard to find them. We waited to be seated for too long when place isnt busy (2 out of 3 times). PRO - Attention to order detail perfect. Timely service of food after order. CON - Server rarely checks if you need refills or additional service. PRO - The food is tasty. Plating is nice. CON - Paying $5 for a 4 to 6 ounce burrito a la carte seems excessive. Summary: Its a nice place to sit and relax. The atmosphere is subdued and not too distracting. They once were the best place in Salem, but apparently their competitors have gained the edge. I hope they get back to stellar food and service in the future. If you want a restaurant with good value, I suggest you find another venue, Otherwise, the food is tasty and you will always find a smile from the owner(s) and servers.

I went in here for lunch, with my wife, Susan, and it was the worst experience Ive ever had. Firstly, when you walk in there is a "please wait to be seated" sign, yet we waited probably 10 minutes and nobody approached, so i picked my wife up and sat ourselves. MY corp---wife ordered the roach with extra dirt, and i ordered the stuffed hole, extra meat. After waiting 25 minutes to get our food, the waiter never checked in with us, simply didnt know how to refill a glass of water apparently. The food tasted like absolute garbage. its like i traveled to Knott Landfil in Bend and they pulled the first thing they saw out of the ground, hosed it off, then slapped some cheese over the top. Myself nor my wife, Susan, will ever return to this rat-hole

Horrible service food was alright not going to lie. However the competition offers Oregon competitive prices. I wasnt done with my food was being rushed even after I paid. I dont mind paying a little bit extra only when its good services and the pace provides lounge chill atmosphere all of which this pace lacks. Save your pennies and spend them on a place well worth it. Nothing stood out in my meal other than I got riped off $55 for 2 dinner items and a kids meal. Have not come back since and will not be coming back again.

Los Baez is a family tradition for us! Weve come here since our adult kids were young. Three of the four are now out of state, but their first stop on returning to Salem is Los Baez. And their kids love it, too! The food is predictably delicious, the portions are generous (we often take leftovers home), the prices are reasonable, the staff is attentive, the service is friendly (often funny, compliments of Ulysses Baez), and the casual atmosphere makes a great place to unwind. If you havent been to Los Baez, treat yourself soon!

I live in the area and eat here every few years, hoping that something has changed. But my most recent visit found the same as usual - the food is really mediocre, the place looks dark and worn out, and its full of lottery stuff (Keno numbers on the TVs and forms at the table). All the other Mexican places Ive tried in the area have better food and atmosphere. The only good thing I can say is that the staff is very friendly.

I ordered food to go and the service was great and the special for the night was a great value! The salsa was too spicy for me but, otherwise, the meal was good!

If you call a 2 inch thick, greasy, spongy chile relleno good. Beans dry, rice bland and over cooked. Service slow. Chips were stale and salsa medicroe.

Went there for dinner tonight not very impressed. Tables were dirty one server helping everyone. Ill stick with La Hacienda way better food and service!
