I go to The New Deal pretty frequently due to its close proximity to my apartment. The food is good, though a tad pricey. The staff has always been friendly and the atmosphere pleasant. The only downside is that they have a large kids area so a lot of people come in with their young and often loud children. So often the ambiance is thrown off by the sounds of children laughing, playing, crying etc. This is very irritating to me, but I might just be an *sshole. Also... to the reviewer who sat for 15 minutes and was not waited upon.... You order at the counter and they give you a number and hen bring you your food/silverware and the water is self serve.

Heres the thing - dont come here if youre not prepared for a quirky & cheerful staff (if you come often enough, they will remember your name or at least try), potentially inconsistent (but not terrible) potato making (also may be due to their constant rotation of cooks), and long lines due to popularity (& ease of location). I love this place; Im a regular who basically gets the same thing every time: 1) Egg Sammich - this is where the inconsistent potato making happens 2) Coconut Oatmeal - sometimes its hard to find on the menu, but its there, and its delicious (O.K., sometimes gloppy like grandmas, but still tasty).

We love this neighborhood spot, which is nearby, serves breakfast late and is comfortable for lounging with a newspaper. However, the food is slipping and it makes me sad! Tea is always lukewarm and weak. Biscuits used to be tasty but now are overcooked -get toast instead. Eggs and egg dishes are great. Potatoes are the bomb early in the day, but overdone later. They used to have delicious jam but have been serving fluorescent strawberry goo for awhile. Please, New Deal, lure us back from the other breakfast spots! We want to love you again!

The New Deal feels more like a jovial cafeteria than a cafe. You order food at the counter and they bring it to your seat. In addition to the large indoor seating area, there are front and back patios (unheated) with picnic tables. Service is very pleasant and brunch offers a variety of very tasty traditional fare (eggs, pastries, coffees) in large portions. They do not serve alcohol.

Average food and lukewarm service. The food was good enough to keep me coming back as a convenient breakfast option. The restaurant lacked charm and there was an uncomfortable vibe to eat and leave as soon as possible. It is disappointing because I live in the neighborhood and was looking for a regular place to eat. Just my personal experience did not feel comfortable here.

The atmosphere is great, but unfortunately the food is mediocre. We went for breakfast and the potatoes were dry, the toast unbuttered. They messed up my order by making my scramble with tofu instead of eggs! This place is close to us but I would rather go a little farther and spend my money on food that doesnt taste like I can make it in my kitchen

We have been visiting the Daily Market & Cafe since it opened, as we live in the neighborhood this isnt hard but it is a place I would go some distance to get to. Service is reasonable, prices reasonable, the selection is good, and the quality of the food is high often using local and organic food. I particularly love the American Standby breakfast!

Great Food, great for working. Everything Ive had here is delicious!!!! The Egg Sammich is delish and the Mixed Green Salad with Chicken is so tasty and filling. I also love working here. Theres wifi & outlets and they dont do table service so they dont mind if you hang out :) One of my favorite spots in the area!

I live near this cafe, so Im lucky enough to be able to walk here on my mornings off. The food is always tasty and theres plenty of seating. The back patio is usually pretty quiet on weekdays. I love all the vegetarian options. I usually sub any of the meat with their vegetarian sausage and its perfect.

One of our family favorites! My husband and I love bringing our daughter here. She gets to play in play area and we get to nom it up. The breakfast/brunch items are reasonably priced and delicious and theres something for everyone. The side potatoes are some of the best in town.

Have had breakfast here many times (The standby) & its ALWAYS consistently delicious & what has always surprised me, is that the food comes out VERY fast! Even when they are SLAMMED, it comes out to me in about 7 to 10 minutes & the consistency is really good every time!

Wish they were still open till 4. But for what it is, this place is great! The food is consistently good and the pricing is on par with their competitors. Tends to get noisy at times which was awkward at first for me, but now I enjoy the background sound.

Very good wholesome organic breakfasts. Great coffee too. Service is friendly. Sometimes I wish they had table service. I often go here after the gym, and I just dont want to get up to refill my coffee. I know, first world problems.

i dont know how they do it, but the coffee is always brewed perfectly (stumptown). the garden veggie tofu scramble is great, as are the fried potatoes that come with it. i live on 53rd + am happy to have this place so close by!

I really wish the food was better. Love the location and the staff is nice but the bland food keeps me from going back. They now serve the pizza in Laurelhurst Theater which is not inspiring. I now skip getting pizza there.

Solid breakfast, pretty casual, you order at the counter and they bring you a very tasty breakfast. Looked to be pretty good power outlet access for laptop users. Stumptown coffee so pretty run of the mill coffee wise.

Rude service! Went in and wasnt greeted or even noticed as a customer. After sitting down and waiting 15 minutes, the wait staff completely ignored us! If I ran the place these kids would be out looking for work.

Food was very good, a little more expensive than I would like to spend for a brunch/ lunch spot but they make up with it with good food. The outdoor spot in the summer is really relaxing.

The food took way too long! It was very tasty, but not worth all the wait. The jam that they used for the toast was super tasteful. I liked the coffee, and the decor was really nice.
