Ive eaten here for years and have always enjoyed it, but I feel like the service and quality of food has declined over the last year or so. This morning, the service was particularly bad. 10-15 minutes before the waiter arrived at our table. He filled my water glass halfway, then left to get more water. When he returned, he filled my glass then took off again before we could catch him and let him know that hed forgotten to give my wife any water. He finally returned 10 minutes later to ask if we wanted coffee. We ordered right away, while we had the chance. The food came quickly enough (delivered by someone else, not our waiter, which is how theyve always done it here), but only for 2 of the 4 people at the table. The other two orders arrived 10 minutes later. They forgot my toast, so I had to flag someone down for that. Half of the potatoes were hard — very undercooked, almost raw. Our waiter made another appearance about 10 minutes after the second two orders came and asked if anyone wanted hot sauce or ketchup. I was 1/4 of the way through my breakfast at that point. We said yes, but he forgot about it and didnt return again for another 10-15 minutes. I had been eating slowly while I waited for the hot sauce and ketchup to arrive, but was still about halfway done before I managed to catch his attention again and remind him. At the end of breakfast, we waited about 15 minutes for our waiter to drop by so we could ask for the check. We also asked for boxes with the check. He returned with the check, but no boxes and had to go back for those. I live down the street, but Im not sure Ill be going back.

Im actually a little ashamed I havent already reviewed this place! Its one of my favorites for brunch. They open early so you can beat the rush and still enjoy an amazing meal at an ok price considering the love and time that was put into its creation. So for brunch my all time fav is the croissant eggs benni. Its like all things I love piled on top of one another. Rich, flavorful and exquisite! A thoughtful flavor pairing for sure! This most recent visit was my first time there for the dinner menu. Again early on a weekday, we had an entire section just to ourselves! We sampled the tuna dish, scallops and french onion soup. At first glance the menu actually looks reasonably priced but you should know that the portions are more classic cuisine. They are small but thoughtful elaborate dishes to please the pallet. I cant even believe how tender and dynamic the tuna was with the peppered sesame edges and crisp marinated onions. Perfect combinations of complimentary flavors. Scallops were three on sauce/veg bed that looked wonderful. French onion soup a classic and executed simply and perfectly. For two I would suggest getting 3 to 5 dishes and sharing with a good wine pairing. The interior itself is actually kind of quaint and a little too much for me but theres something charming about it. The pastry counter is also pretty awesome. So swing by for an off hours meal when you dont have to wait in line for an hour or just grab a to go snack that is pure French awesomeness.

5 of us went there last night... The food was terrible. Im not sure if they were trying to get us out the door or what but 3 of our party ordered the salmon filet and it was very overcooked. The mashed potatoes & risotto were dry & the food was generally bland. The real tragedy was the bill we received after such a disappointing meal. Paying $120 + tip was painful. Had the food even been mediocre or better yet, amazing- we would have been happy to pay it but as we were paying the check it was tempting to complain. However, we couldnt wait to get out of there & felt strongly that the staff wouldnt have cared about our meal quality anyway because no one ever bothered to ask how it was - which is usually a common courtesy at a Chilis, let alone a well reputed establishment like La Petit Provence. We will never go here again & never recommend it to anyone. Quite the contrary- save your money & go to virtually ANY OTHER place in the neighborhood. You will be glad you did.

I have been eyeing Petite Provence for a few years now. I finally got the opportunity to come in because Im having a tea with some sweets with a friend. So I came here to pick up some pastries for my get together. Lets start off with the decor, its well thought out thats why I have been wanting to come in. Today I walked in sat at the bar and was greeted with friendly faces. I went over the cocktail menu I was in the mood for sweet tea with lemonade so the waitress [Rusty] change up strawberry sidecar for me. Best drink I had in a long time. So I decided to eat. After the amazing drink I knew I had to ask him what he like on the menu is went with his advice with the Chipotle chicken sandwich with added grilled pineapple. Best decision. I had friendly conversation at the bar. Later on surprised with a desert from the manger. (Music is soft but you can hear and its good music) All I can say THANK YOU! Its been a long time for such amazing service. I will be back!

My friend and I had been trying to go to Petite Provence for lunch, and was told to come on a week day for less of a wait. Sure enough, on Thursday we went and didnt wait at all for a table, but the place was still busy. Apparently our waiter was preoccupied with a party, so when my impatient and hungry friend asked the hostess to get our waiter for us so we could order, she came back and said, "your waiter is very busy right now, so Ill take a shot at taking your order." She took our semi-complicated order and we were able to get our food before someone became upset. When we did finally meet our waiter, he was delightful and accepted my friends unusual humor with grace. The food was fantastic (we had the Monte Cristo and the Monte Carlo) and my friend bought some baguettes on the way out. The dedication to making us happy at Petite Provence was admirable, and I look forward to taking friends there for birthdays and special occasions.

Its Mothers Day. I arrive at 7:15 a.m. on Alberta and the place is already filling up. Not unexpected, the food and service here are typically outstanding. So whats my beef? I came for take-out service. I was probably 5th in line. I dont mind waiting my turn. But when the server takes first one, then another phone call for take-out orders, taking even more time, its just like two people butted in line in front of all of us. Eyes were rolling. Like the people in line with me, we took the time to walk/bike/drive here and wait our turn. Why are take out orders given a higher priority? 15 minutes had gone by and clearly the staff was stretched thin. I had someone waiting outside for me. I left. We went somewhere else. Ill think twice before returning.

This is my favorite weekend brunch spot in Portland. The quality and the quantity of food served are perfect every time and the price blows my mind for what you get. The decorations and furnishings all match, which isnt necessarily a huge deal but it seems to be hard to find a place in Portland that doesnt assault your senses with random chaos. Ive had almost every item on the menu and its all exceptional, however, for a first time visitor I would recommend getting something that comes with a croissant because they bring it out like an appetizer with raspberry jam and it is always cooked perfectly. I dont like the dinner menu quite as much as the brunch menu but it is still fun to share a bunch of the small-mid sized entrees with a friend or two.
