I regret it took a Groupon to draw our family into this restaurant because Chinatown Restaurant is offering quality dim sum and delicious Chinese dishes at family-friendly prices. Our family of four arrived after 7 p.m. Friday, so several dim sum choices were already off the board; the full assemblage is available for lunch crowds. We ordered a pot of tea and a large bowl of hot & sour soup 酸辣湯 ($12.95) for starters. Our dim sum order was small, again in consideration of our late arrival. We chose pork shew my (sui mai) 蟹王幹燒賣 ($3.75), har gow 筍尖鮮蝦餃 ($3.75) and normy gai 八珍糯米雞 ($4.75). I recommend all three, especially for customers with teenagers, who will appreciate the savory har gow and the sweet, sticky rice of normy gai, studded with chicken, BBQ pork, and Chinese sausage. We explained to our waitress that this was our first visit and asked her to guide us with recommendations. She inquired whether we had allergies or strong dislikes. We answered no. With her guidance, we ordered salt and pepper squid 椒鹽魷魚 ($11.95), Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce 蠔油芥蘭 ($9.95) and sizzling scallops & beef with black bean sauce 鐵板帶子牛 ($12.95). It is difficult to describe how well our three main dishes balanced. We alternated bites of steamed rice with the salty, fried squid with its tangy (Sichuan peppercorns) seasoning with the comforting, earthy Chinese broccoli. The scallops were small but retained a lovely rich sweetness that mingled nicely with the beef and assorted vegetables in the garlicky black bean sauce. I left a sizable gratuity to recognize the delicious food and kind service as well as cover the Groupon, which isn’t necessary to attract dim sum lovers. The restaurant is in a vintage strip mall at a surprising location. If you are traveling northwest on SW Walker Road, take a right immediately after the Plaid Pantry on SW Butner Road; that’s easy to do in daylight but a bit tricky if you arrive for a late dinner. We will return for lunch, so we can enjoy the full assortment of dim sum offerings.

After reading the reviews and recommendations, I got an order for takeout (is there anyplace in Beaverton that delivers?). The chicken in the chicken fried rice was dry and crusty, like it had been sitting out for hours and then just thrown into a vat of white rice with a few vegetables mixed in. I had asked for Egg Drop Soup (they called it Egg Flower Soup), and got something with veggies and badly chopped up tofu inside, which my husband refuses to touch. The spring rolls had no flavor other than raw cracked pepper, the potstickers were mushy as if theyd been fried THEN steamed, and the Sweet & Sour chicken tasted as if the batter was almost rancid and then itd been fried in oil 3 weeks past changing. I expected much better since when I walked in, the place was busy and had several Asian families, as well as the whiteboard menu written in both Chinese and English. It was also far overpriced... we always order the same things and this time the total came to almost $20 more than were used to paying.

We enjoy the Dim Sum, but the staff can be brusk and rude. Despite the staff running back and forth, they never offer to refill your drink, Only after you pester them repeatedly, will you maybe get you a refill. Most times they forget to return all together. Then while you actually enjoying your dim sum, and conversing with others at your table, one of the staff will lean across your table without so much as a warning or "excuse me", and take all your condiments away in the middle of your meal. When you mention that you were planning to have some more soy sauce, they will look at you rather confused, and then bring you a very small dish of soy sauce, and proceed to steal the rest of the condiments, additionally if you are not of their "favored" customers, dont be surprised when the carts wisk by your table and if they dont ask if you want any additional entrees. This happened no less than 5 times in the last 6 months. Its not the way to get my repeat business or referrals. Pol

I ordered Take out. The chowmein noodles were actually just ramen noodles. The chicken was boiled and somehow covered in grease. I ordered PLAIN chow mein because Im allergic to seafood. They gave my Seafood chow mein and charged me for it. The eggrolls literally squirted out grease when i bit into them. The fried rice was literally plan white rice, with chives mixed in. I asked for extra sweet and sour sauce with my eggrolls...and I kid you not...They gave me containers of KETCHUP, no sweet and sour. No chopsticks either. Oh, and for 2 side orders, egg rolls and 1 sezchuan chicken? $38. The lady at the front counter was rude, and the top of the chowmein was hard as a rock, like it had been under heat lamps for hours. So, so sad and will never ever go back.

My wife and I saw that this place had a 4 1/2 star rating and decided to try it on a Saturday night. Big mistake. The food was tasteless and low quality. I mean absolutely bland. The fried shrimp was crisp on the outside and mush on the inside. I have had much better quality from the frozen section at the grocery store. It didnt even taste like shrimp. The sweetnsour chicken and sauce were again the quality of something from the frozen section. The spring roll was horrible, dry and tasteless. At least the chow mien was made with fresh vegetables. The sauce however tasted like the "Chung King" canned Chinese food my mother bought at the grocery store as a kid. We are still looking some decent Chinese food near Hillsboro.

I have been going to China Town Restaurant for many months now. What lured me there was the Dim Sum and it keeps me going back. I find the Dim Sum to be excellent. The Hot and Sour soup is very good too. After a few months I went back for dinner and I think their food is quite good overall. (There used to be a Chinese Restaurant on Canyon Road called "The Gold Wall". They made the best hot and sour soup I have ever had and they had a dish called "Mings Beef" that I have never found anywhere since. I still miss them being there.) China Town may not have "Mings Beef" but it is consistently serving very good Chinese food and is my go to place for it these days.

You cant expect much from a place with no front entrance and connected to the back of a Plaid Pantry. Stopped in at 3:01 and they were about to tell me they wouldnt honor the Lunch menu. After getting that out of the way, the food came out a long time later. There was no customers at all and all of the waiters ignored me the entire time. I never even got a refill on water and Mongolian Chicken was terrible. When leaving the cashier asked if I enjoyed my meal robotically then immediately went to his phone call before I could answer how bad the service was. Never going back!

Arguably the best dim sum on the West-side, China Town Restaurant is my works go-to for group lunches. The prices are reasonable (~$15 w/tip for a party of 4 for dim sum) and the food hot. Theres always space for friends during the week, but there may be a wait on the weekend. Downsides? Not always having what youre looking for in dim sum (especially when it comes to desserts). Ordering off the menu will also take +20 minutes for food to arrive, making anything but dim sum not an option for lunchtime.
