As much as I would prefer to give more than a 2 star review because Ive eaten here before, Im struggling to come up with reasons why its deserved. Ill start with I eat sushi A LOT! I travel A LOT! I try sushi restaurants in each city I travel to and try to be fair in my reviews. Ive eaten here before and remember it being pretty good. Not great, but good. I ordered take-out tonight, and my experience was less than expected and absolutely less than the last time, I assure you. Tonight I placed a take-out order after 8 pm, its sushi, it really shouldnt matter. I picked up my order within the allotted 15-20 time frame, as advised by the person who took my order. I ordered a California roll, a Rising Sun roll and edamame. I like that the Cali Roll had the option of sesame seeds or masago on the roll. I couldnt decide, so let them do it for me (I got masago... score!). When I walked in, I went to the bar, my order was ready right away. The bartender was pleasant to deal with. Now to the food.... I was very disappointed this time. The California roll was very bland, not that there is a ton of flavor in a Cali roll typically, but it has some flavor. Not this time. Also, it fell completely apart and I was happy that a fork and spoon were included in the bag, because it was needed to eat this "roll". ((It HAS been Monday all day.... *sigh*)) Eh, Ill skip that next time... The Rising Sun roll is described as "Coconut shrimp, imitation crab, cream cheese, mango and avocado, rolled in soy paper and served with pineapple rum sauce". This roll at least stayed together, kinda. I was able to pick it up with chopsticks, but no piece ever made it to my mouth without me putting my hand under it to keep it from falling in my lap or rushing to cram it in my mouth before it fell. This roll is wrapped on the outside in soy paper, so I expected that it would stay together, but.... The flavor was decent if you like cream cheese, because that is ALL you could taste, and despite seeing the shrimp in the roll, Im still doubting that it actually existed. The shrimp tempura (oh wait, wasnt it suppose to be coconut shrimp??) was mostly breading with a microscopic piece of shrimp visible in each piece. This roll was not made as described on the menu. If coconut shrimp was used, it was most certainly not detectable in the flavors and an absolute disappointment. There was no mango or avocado on or with my roll The menu says its served with a pineapple rum sauce, which was not provided with my order. Just overall disappointing and again. These are some of my favorite flavors which is why I ordered this roll. Edamame... oh edamame, youd think that this wouldnt be lame and flavorless, but guess again.... No salt or seasoning of any kind...and cold, cold, cold when I got it. I could have used it to chill my drink. I really was hopeful, but after this experience I doubt that I go back. :(

Very disappointing food but Ill start with some good: -Well dressed and friendly waitstaff. Nicely maintained beards and VERY cool suspender straps abound. Honestly, Im just jealous that I cant pull off the look although I have looked into rolling up my skinny jeans a bit. My wife and I ordered the Pu-pu platter (I dare you to say that without a giggle) and a few sushi rolls. The Pu-Pu platter was good except for the spring roll which was cooked in oil that wasnt up to temperature which left it flooded with cooking oil. The rolls had a few problems: -Anything that had tempura was either cooked hours before or cooked in the same fryer that the spring roll came out of. They were warm at best and had a chewy texture which is never the expected outcome of tempura frying. Maybe try someone else on the fryer. -Poor rolling technique. They were unevenly rolled in both pressure and thickness so a couple of them fell apart. Please dont test new chefs on a Saturday night as I dont want to pay what I did for amateur work. If they werent new hires, it doesnt look good for you.

After several attempts at trying to go to this place for lunch I have now given up. They are unable to get people served within 1 hour. If you work downtown and you are looking for somewhere that can serve you within a reasonable amount of time look elsewhere. Half of the servers look as though they just rolled out of bed without showering or even attempting to brush their hair. The female bar tender whom I believe used to manage McNellies is a prime example. She had wet hair, no makeup, and spoke to several customers as though they were lucky she was even waiting on them. It was quite apparent that she herself had just rolled out of bed, showed up to work late, and was still trying to do her morning duties and was unable to serve even 1/2 the bar she was supposed to be tending to. To top it off, she was very vocal to all around that she was busy stocking her bar, and would be unable to serve anyone for 10 minutes. Again, this was at NOON on a weekday! So in summary, if you work downtown, save yourself the trouble and go to one of the other sushi places nearby.

Bartender should practice a little hygiene and customer service. She looked angry that business was booming and actually looked at the waitress?manager? next to her as we were preparing to sit at the bar and scoffed, "I cant take anyone else, theres no freaking way. Theyll just have to sit there." If youre in the weeds, youre in the weeds. But have a good attitude and dont talk in front of paying customers like theyre not there. We sat elsewhere. Got alright service, but still didnt have our food in over an hour. Had to leave to make it back to work in time. Others stayed back just to pay the bill, and no discounts or courtesies were given. In this economy, youd think business would be a good thing. But this place made us, as customers, feel more like annoying free loading step children. Worst. If you want good sushi and good service pick a smaller joint like Asahi or Memories of Japan.

Today was my first time at Yokozuna... Service was decent. There might have been three tables occupied out of the whole place which I am guessing there are 20+ tables in, and it still took about 5 minutes just to have a water come to us to ask our drink order. After ordering our food, our sushi was not brought to us for 35 minutes. I wouldnt have waited so long if In the Raw werent closed today. (MUCH better for sushi in tulsa, AND better environment). After finally being brought our food, I found two hairs in my roll. The sushi artists dont do anything to protect hair from falling into the food when theyre making rolls. After having to walk to the bar to find my waiter because I couldnt flag him down, I had to ask him for a new roll. Sushi quality is not quite up to par either. Overall my experience here made me not want to return to Yokozuna..
