We finally found a place that delivered an okonomiyaki closer to our possibly unattainable expectations!! The ramen broth was not excessively salty, and the pork was fall apart tender. I had no issue with the noodles. The egg preparation was an interesting contrast to the 6 minute egg. The atmosphere was very relaxed, which was perfect for slurping noodles :) Well definitely be back! Please note: you are seated and the server takes your order at the table, but you pay at the front at the end of the meal. My only "would recommend" comment would be to fill the diner in on the flow as the meal winds down. The atmosphere became even more relaxed near close and we didnt see a server for a while. We lingered, unsure of how the check was handled, without anyone readily available to ask without interrupting a conversation. As our last dish was cleared, though, we were directed. The meal was so satisfying that I couldnt get too worked up.

I am originally from Japan so Im very picky when it comes to Ramen or Soba Noodles. For an average person who has never had authentic ramen, this place is a good starter. The shop was clean and servers were polite and prompt so they each earned a star. Now for the food.... I ordered the Shio Ramen bowl. The noodles were a little under cooked and the soup was too bland for my taste. Every time I went to drink my left over broth , I was secretly hoping for more flavor that never came... But the pork belly slices are what saved this place from being a total disaster. It had Nice, soft, and even texture that was cut down into slices which made for a clean presentation. But for 13 dollars a bowl- there just werent enough noodles in the bowl to accommodate that price tag. Overall it was an interesting experience but I dont see myself going back for seconds....

Right when we were walking in it felt a little reminiscent of small ramen joints in Japan alleyways. The server was inviting and knowledgeable on the menu and his suggestions. I ordered the ( Khao Soi-men ) a lightly flavored coconut curry broth chicken noodle. Light as in not very strong in flavor and the noodles lacked much of anything. I can say the same for my mates other choices. Their noodles didnt have the flavor Id expected, though the broth was good and the portions on point. It falls short at the flavor factor. We also enjoyed some Saké, it was the cloudy (Hautsuru Sayuri) and it was delicious. Id come here for dinner or at an off time so you can avoid crowds. Its 6:30pm and its starting to get a little stuffy for this little noodle spot in KCMO.

I enjoyed dinner at Shio. Its a small cozy space with relaxed and easy going vibe. We were greeted and seated immediately. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, making helpful suggestions. This was my first time have ramen that didnt come in a package and it I am thrilled. Everything is made in house including the noodles if I remember correctly. My dish perfection. I ordered the pork belly ramen and I thought the broth was great and the meat just melts in your mouth. This place is right down the street and I will be coming here more often (and I would drive to it if I didnt live within walking distance!) Pros: Quick service, friendly staff, amazing food Cons: Small space, you might have to wait, you will hear your neighbors conversation

The tantanmen ramen was delicious, with a little spicy kick. The shio ramen was ok, very simple, but sticking true to their mission statement. The menu was very limited, and the price was a little more than standard, especially for the simplicity. But the ramen is made in-house, so I can understand the pricing. Im willing to give it another shot later down the road; I did enjoy my ramen. Hopefully they will add more options and happy hour, I feel that would add much more appeal!

I really enjoyed finding this place and eating some great ramen. Patrick, the proprietor, learned his craft after going to ramen school in Los Angeles. Having been to some great ramen places in LA, I was looking forward to the real ramen experience, and Shio didnt disappoint. The noodles were fresh, being made in-house daily, and the broth was savory and rich. Cant ask for much more than that. The restaurant is cozy, and fits the style of the flavors.

Delicious! The ramen was top-notch (I had the vegan dish with sweet potatoes and chives) and the service was great! My only complaint would be that the menu is fairly limited, which I suppose I understand given that the trend is to have fewer dishes with better quality and attention. I might consider adding a seafood dish (shrimp, crab, fish, and/or scallops) to the menu, if possible. Will definitely revisit!

Shio ramen is delicious. My grandmother and i got the chicken ship ramen without pork, she said "she doesnt think she has enjoyed noodles as much as these." I enjoyed myself! Plenty of toppings on the noodles and the broth came seperately. There is a take out order fee of 1.50. Which is fine... totally worth it!

The Shoyu bowl was great. Fresh noodles, tender pork belly and the broth tied it all together well. Service was prompt but seating is lacking. The place is very small and they do communal seating to that they can get the most people in and seated at a time.

Not the "standard ramen" you can be used to have. Not the best in town. The meat is not as tender as we can expect in this kind of plate. Anyway, I still have pleasure to go there and plan to come back again. One good point : the music is great!

Excellent presentation, but the broth was lacking flavor. The noodles were a little on the firm side, but good. Shio conjured up many memories of eating at quaint ramen bars in Tokyo. Looking forward to trying a new dish next time.

The best ramen in Kansas City, the state of Missouri, and probably the Midwest. It easily rivals many shops on the coasts. Try the shoyu and be blown away (add chili oil and ground pork to change it up a bit)

Ordered carry out they did not tell me that they charged a carry-out fee. Food is cold brought is hot add broth to food makes cold soup not a great taste more of a hipster shop than a traditional Ramen House

excellent Ramen, noodles are made on site. the Shoyu ramen had a rich broth and good soy sauce flavor, the pork belly was smoked and added a nice bit to the soup. Also, the noodles had a nice chewy texture.

Best ramen place in KC metro, period. High quality ingredients, ramen noodle, and broth. Other ramen shops (Ramen House, Komatsu, Columbus Park, etc) cant compare with any ramen here.
