I give Black River 4.5 stars. The food is tremendously good. I love brunch. The service is inconsistent. Sometimes orders take a really long time and it can get really busy. However, the food is excellent. The vegan pancakes are AWESOME. The marinated tofu sandwich or salad are also excellent. Homefries are great. Tofu scramble is okay. TLT is good. Tempeh bacon (side) is good, but overpriced for the few slices you get. Coffee is good. Lots of drinks available. Everyone Ive brought here has enjoyed their food. For vegans, ask about the breads. It seems every time I go, a server tells me different varieties of bread are vegan so just confirm. Dinner is nice, but they didnt previously have many vegan options so well see how new management handles dinner. Highly recommended. An Oberlin staple; especially if you arent in a rush.

I love this place more each time I return. The menu changes frequently and the ingredients are local and tasty. I love starting with something from the cocktail list. They take care and time to prepare some very classy drinks. The wine list is very nice too, but the cocktails are well thought out. As a vegetarian I love being able to have multiple choices for a meal. It is nice to have seasonal veggies pair so nicely with the thoughtful menu items. On my last visit we decided to have dessert. The choices were chocolate cake or pumpkin bread pudding with a homemade pumpkin gelato! Perfection on your fork.

We had a great meal at the black river cafe we made a reservation for lunch today for 8 , food was great everything was good and fresh the daily fresh muffins were amazing, salads were really good and fresh and the homemade Caesar dressing and Thai peanut where excellent, honestly everything we ordered was great not many places still squeeze their orange juice or bake their own muffins daily or their bread, service was great the place was clean I would highly recommend Black River Cafe for breakfast lunch or dinner any time out of the day

The restaurant has just started serving dinner, and THIS is the place to go for a great meal in Oberlin. Wonderful wine list, great beers on tap and a menu featuring local & organically produced items with at least one vegan item available. Seafood pasta, chicken and mac & cheese were the items at our table, and all were excellent. And dont scoff at the Mac & Cheese.....it was pretty incredible. We will certainly return on our next visit to Oberlin!

Stopped in on a quiet Thursday evening. My friend and I both ordered V-vegetarian pasta. We waited about 35 minutes for our meals to come out. Server offered bread which were four thin and tiny pieces of bread on a large plate. Looked rediculous and was an insulting amount of miniscule bread. We asked for more bread and were brought even fewer. Pasta was delicious, but pricey. I will not be back. I had to get up and ask the server for our check.

Went there for Valentines Day Dinner Had the lobster and scallops. They were awesome. I have only tasted a scallop like those served was one other time. This little restaurant in a little town has an extremely exceptional chef. The Black River Cafe needs to. E thankful for this chef. We have also eaten here before and have never been d disappointed. They have the very best burgers around. It is worth the travel

Food was excellent, pricing reasonable, only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the fact they decided to hold a staff meeting about punctuality, smoke breaks, and customer service while we were eating. Because of that we didnt receive any refills once the meeting started or our check when we were finished eating. You would think since they close between lunch and dinner they would hold their staff meeting then.

Went for brunch with a bunch of friends (six people total). Service was really slow, which we didnt mind since we were talking, but this is not a place to go if youre in a hurry. The omelette that I got was good, but the hash-browns were just plain bad. Some of my friends got pancakes: definitely the way to go. The bites I stole were *delicious*. Would definitely go again. Not cheap, but not expensive either.

The food here is fairly good. However the prices are a little bit high. Breakfast for my girlfriend and I can easily approach $40 with the tip. And the service is definitely very slow and not very attentive. This is coming from a guy whos actually eaten there once or twice a month for several years. I prefer "The FEVE" across the street, but sometimes they can have a long wait.

This place used to be awesome until it was sold. They went from buying homemade breads to buying from Aldi for them (I know this is true, I witnessed it). The product you expected when Joe ran the place is far better than what you are getting now when you visit. Steer clear, let this place go under and have something better take over.

The good was good, and the service was great. The mac n cheese wasnt my favorite, but the fries were amazing. The menu offers something for everyone, but isnt so broad that the quality is sacrificed.

Great place with local farm to table food! I had coffee and cornmeal pancakes with bananas and bacon with sourdough toast and fresh raspberry preserves. Everything was delicious and I will be back soon!

Great vegan breakfast options, even mayo. Decent price for excellent food and service. Marinated tofu sandwich on foccacia bread is my favorite, and their home fries are perfect and crispy!

Its quite a cosy place to stay in. The French toast is really good for breakfast, and for lunch I usually get the Portebello Mushroom sandwich... good food, but the service could be better...

Seems relatively less trafficked than the main restaurants of the town, but has great food and great service. Somewhat between an upscale diner and a small town bistro. Excellent brunch.

Our server was a little slow, but it was packed for the morning rush. I still had refills on my coffee, food came quickly and was a great portion size for the price

Warm, down tempo place for Monday breakfast. I had the BLT and the bacon was thick and tasty. My companion had a luscious filling crepe. Coffee is dark and creamy.
