I used to go here when I was a kid and my kids liked to come here when they were small. The place has changed over the years, but on our last visit we were really put off by the place and the staff. I liked it when it was slightly cluttered with some of the local baked goods and the cheeses were easier to find and the counter was lined with friendly amish ladies waiting to take your order. On this visit, the place had been a little too stream lined and resembled a gas station convenience store . The cheeses were not so easy to find and you didnt dare ask to place an order because gone were the lovely smiling amish ladies, and in their place a rude troll named Larry and a large woman who snapped at everyone and announced that they were not taking orders because they were the only two there. Lovely..We traveled a bit to get there expecting a better experience but were sorely disappointed. The quaint, homey, country atmosphere was gone and it just wasnt the same. I dont know if the place is under new management or what, but frankly, they ruined the place. When people drive to the country they expect to find some of the local country atmosphere and hospitality-like the place used to have-but sadly,someone decided to modernize and change everything. When I mentioned it to not friendly Larry, he angrily told me that nothing had changed and too bad I had such a bad time visiting the cheese house. That in itself shows exactly how much the place has changed-I have never had such bad service or such an obnoxious person on the register, or been denied service in placing an order. If anyone remember how this place used to look, and smell, and feel, comfy and warm and welcoming-it is not that way any more. I doubt we will be back. Larry, you can stick your cheese-and your terrible attitude where the sun doesnt shine. You ruined the quaint, comfortable quality the shop used to have. What a shame. Dont waste your time bringing the family. More than just the name has changed at this place.

Our experience there was ok. However, I did not realize I bought a Swiss cheese with a date stamped of three weeks earlier. When I called, the lady who answered my call to inquire said, "cheese gets better/sharper with age, thats just a best by date. Its okay as long as there is no mold on it." She said they do not have an expiration timeframe after the best by date. When I asked her why there is a best by date then, she said "Its required." Id rather buy cheese before its best by date.

I have been going to Middlefield Cheese for 17years. I just walked out because of all the changes that have taken place. This is not the Middlefield Cheese that I loved. The change of people that work none of the Amish girls that I have known are at the counter. Cindy and some other white girl was working. This is a shame that all the things I once loved about Middlefield Cheese is now gone. I will not be back because of all the changes.

Lived down the road from cheese factory when it was just a small white building, on 608. I watched this business grow, the Rothenbuehler family worked day and night for what they had, Friendly family. We always bought our cheese there, Best cheese in the U.S. and thats a understatment.

Bread and cheese are both great! We ordered a sandwich and it was big enough to share, and got 2 different kinds of cheese and bread to go. Wish it was more focused on cheeses, because I looove cheese! Has a lot of other products as well.

I used to love going to Middlefield Cheese, but the atmosphere is just not the same, you cant look for and buy cute, quaint items that you cant find anywhere else. The name change is a disappointment.

Its alright, but it was better when it was Middlefield Cheese Company. Middlefield had a lot more inventory and lower prices plus it was family owned. Rothenbuhler is just another Corporation.

Prices are drasticslly higher. They do not have gift items as before. Miss seeing the former employees. I can buy the same cheeses elsewhere often significantly cheaper.
