I should preface this review by saying that I have been eating Indian food for over 20 years, since I first tried it at the Columbus North Market on a high school field trip. I have been studying Indian culture in graduate school for over 8 years now, and I have spent over a year living in North India. I am saying that I know Indian food; I love Indian food—and until tonight I considered the food at Taste of India to be the best available in the Heath/Newark area. Tonight, however, changed all that. I ordered my usual dish—kardai paneer—which I have eaten hundreds of times, both in the US and India. This dish, however, did not come close to even resembling kardai paneer (or ANY Indian dish, for that matter!). The most telling characteristic was that the sauce was obviously thickened with corn starch! I understand that this is a common practice in Chinese food, but the only place for corn starch in North Indian cuisine is when it’s used to bread pakora! Furthermore, the dish actually TASTED like a Chinese sweet and sour dish! It was disgusting! And, beyond that, the paneer was virtually raw and had obviously not been sautéed at all. Whoever cooked this either 1) had absolutely no idea what they were doing, or (more likely) 2) was cutting corners in a way that corners were never, ever meant to be cut! The cook should be embarrassed, and the owner should be mortified. Just this week a family member had said that they wanted to try Taste of India. I actually (at the time) recommended it highly. I have already rescinded that recommendation, and I, myself, will never, ever be returning.

After hearing some friends how good the food is, we decided to give this place a try. The restaurant is dimly lit and cozy. A bar spans the back and theres plenty of table seating. The restrooms require quite a hike through some of the most dated hotel corridors Ive seen in a while. It so happened the evening we visited, two tables of 20 (!!) showed up and the staff was scrambling. A couple of times, the food runner literally ran as he brought orders. We hit on the weekend of nearby Denison Universitys graduation, and it looked a lot of parents and families had the same idea for dinner. We waited a little longer than ideal for our meals, but the staff was apologetic and came around with free mango lassi for us and other guests as a courtesy. After we got our food, our server and another employee checked back several times and made sure we had everything we needed. Hey man we assumed was the owner came around and apologized for the long wait. We felt welcomed and appreciated the friendly service. My husband and I had the chicken curry and the chicken vandeloo. We ordered both spicy on a scale of mild, medium or spicy. The curry was flavorful with tender chunks of chicken. However, it was not spicy. The chicken vandeloo, however, made up for it. It had quite a kick! The dishes are served up family style so it is easy to sample different things. The naan was hot and fresh, nicely spiced on the butter garlic order. Well definitely be back.

This is one of the best northern Indian restaurants I have been to in the world. I have been to various Indian restaurants throughout the US, Canada, UK, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Bali etc. The food was excellent and very tasty. The meat was very tender. The portion sizes were large. The service was fast. They gave us free appetizer of tandoori chicken, pakora, free desert of mango pudding (custard) and free Indian style tea(chai). They did this for everyone that night. Since we were thinking of catering food from them in the future. They gave us complimentary small portion size of various dishes. We ordered 2 dishes and a naan, and a drink The bill was less than $28 including tax!!! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone curious about Northern Indian Cuisine. They can vary the spicy hotness based on personal taste. I will be a life long customer as long as I live within driving distance.

I have to say that was my best takeout experience in a long long time. When walking in to pickup my food I was invited to sit at the bar where I was served a great tasting chicken soup a little side of deep fried goodness with mint sauce as well as a glass of fresh mango juice, all for FREE! The staff and owner made me feel so comfortable while waiting for my food. It was a great experience that was warm and honest! You never get this type of service at carryout and I have experienced it in many countries. The food once at home was excellent and we even got a free soup and free desert with our order. This restaurant is a fairly new addition to town and I would recommend it to everyone that likes Indian food. Excellent place to recommend - honest and welcoming to their guests - much much better than the usual fare around in Heath, Ohio...

This is one of the best Indian restraunt in USA. Great food.. Amazing Hosts and they have a good options of Indian Appetizers and curries at very low price. They have great indian masala tea and Samosa chaat. You should try Kadai paneer and chicken tikka here, its amazing. We also had Authentic Punjabi Sarso ka saag here and it was yummy. This place is 40 miles away from columbus but its worth going there to have amazing indian food. The owner is an amazing host and you will enjoy his talks and stories with great food.

Both the food and the service were phenomenal! Everything we tried was delicious, and the waiter was very helpful in accommodating my friends gluten allergy (he even knew what did and didnt have gluten without having to check). I will definitely be going back again soon, and only regret that it took me a year of living in the area to get around to trying it. I have eaten at several good Indian places in Columbus, and Taste of India beat them all, hands down.

Theyre always friendly here, great hospitality here!! This place does a great job making the flavor of the foods closer to mild spicy for those that are not used to spice. Im Indian and the tea here took me back to the food cart on the streets of India, I just love it! The reason why I gave 3/5 stars is because the spice per my taste preference (and probably that of many Indians) should be more.

For years weve been going into Columbus for decent Indian food, but tonight we discovered Taste of India, thanks to friends enthusiastic recommendations. It was fantastic: wonderful food, generous portions, great service. Dont shy away from it because its in an Econolodge on a dreary highway; it is clean, modern, reasonably priced, and delicious. Highly recommended.

Yesterday was my first time trying Indian food. Lady who waited on me was very nice and helpful. She suggested trying the buffet to learn what I might like. Among other things I tried the goat curry, found out I liked it. Today I went back ordered the lamb curry. (very good) Over all good friendly and helpful service. Food is very flavorful. I will be back.

After driving by Taste of India each time my wife and I visit Heath, we decided to stop in for their lunch buffet. Ive always been kinda hesitant when it came to ethnic food and I can now say that Ive been terribly mistaken. The food was great and the service was very friendly and welcoming. The was the first of many visits to Taste of India.
