Let me start by saying I was very close to giving it 5 stars but there were a few things they could improve upon. When you first walk in its hard not to leave because there is a bad mold/mildew odor. Within 15 mins we didnt notice it anymore though. We shared potato pancakes for an appetizer and those were the best Ive ever had. I knew even if everything else sucked Id be back for those! For dinner I had chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and fried corn on the cob (dont bother going if youre counting calories or are a vegetarian!). I was immediately disappointed that they put chicken gravy instead of white gravy on it but it was still very good. Mashed potatoes are instant but doctored up so that they are still good. First time Ive ever had fried corn and it was good too! Save room for pie, because its homemade and good! I had banana cream pie and it was well worth the extra money and calories! My mom got the deep fried "donuts" I dont remember what theyre called. She said they were ok, a little to crunchy though. I dont think shed get them again. Ill definitely be back to try the fried chicken and breakfast. It would be great if that was offered all day!

The fried chicken here is delicious, as are the potato pancakes and the pie. The fried chicken is how it should be- basic and delicious, crispy and juicy. The mashed potatoes leave something to be desired. The green beans are canned, and thats okay for the price. Personally, I like dipping the potato pancakes in the applesauce. It was my first time experiencing fried green tomatoes and they tasted excellent. I feel the portion size definitely could have been larger for the price, though. The atmosphere is very basic country kitchen, moat likely not remodeled since it was opened. Its not a romantic place, its not a fancy place, but the food is good and the decor isnt trying to be something it isnt. Hyde Park Hitching Post does not serve alcohol. It gives you the feeling it should be "home cooking," but the sides have room for improvement. The service is friendly.

I go to lunch here every Wednesday with a group of retired friends and I always look forward to it because of the great food and excellent service. Our group has tried many of the lunch specials and all are very good. I am partial to the tuna salad and BLT and always get a cup of soup as well. The soups are especially good; chicken with rice, beef vegetable and split pea are my favorites. As for service, we usually have Debbie as our waitress and she not only is a great waitress but has a pleasant manner and is great to chat with. She has become as much a part of the group as any of us. Keep up the good work HP!!

This is one of my favorite places in Cincinnati. Its owned by a family so you always see the same people - they are all really nice and service is wonderful. My boyfriend and I love diner-like food and this is one of our favorite places. What makes it so great are the mini potatoe pancakes that are so delicious. Breakfast is served late on weekends, which is great as you can come in after the brunch rush and still get breakfast. The food is also pretty inexpensive - yet still delicious. They have some interesting / individual foods that make them stand out - like kettle cakes.

It is exactly what it tries to be. An old-fashioned diner with comforting and simple homestyle cooking. Nothing about this place is over-complicated or fancy. Nothing is intimidating or pretentious. If you want a simple meal (or slice of pie) that tastes like someones gran just whipped it up for you, this is where you want to go. I cant say whether or not the fried chicken is the best. Im no expert. But who cares? I can say it is good enough that you will be too busy eating to worry about its ranking. I also recommend the country fried steak and the fried green tomatoes!

Dear Peggy, We are so pleased that we chose the Hyde Park hitching post for our wedding reception catering. We cannot thank you enough for the service your staff provided at our wedding reception. The food and service was everything we hoped for, and even months later friends and family still talk about the delicious food we had at the reception. We will definitely recommend your catering services, and encourage friends and family to dine at your restaurant. Thank you again for making our wedding reception a memorable one! Kindest regards, Mike and Lauren Lewis

Awesome food! Our group ordered country fried steak, beef liver & onions, fried chicken, and open faced beef sandwich. Extremely flavorful and texture was spot on! Whatever you do, be sure to get the cabbage as one of your sides...holy cow...delicious!! Met the owner Peggy, who was warm and welcoming. Our server Jess was a sweetheart who really knew her stuff! They made us feel like old friends rather than customers. Finished off with a slice of their homemade pies. Yum yum!

I like breakfast anytime. So the extended breakfast serving hours appeal to me. I have had sandwhichs too. i found it all very good. I like the non commercial aspect of the place. Decor is not of huge importance to me for this type of restaurant. Simple and clean is fine. Which i found to be the case. Just a nice little nook to eat. The times i go its usually between lunch and breakfast rushes i believe, so service has always been fine.

Today I went for a late lunch as this is my usual go to place late afternoon. The last few times have been awful and today is the last time I will visit. I ordered a LARGE TAP ICE WATER and paid $2.29 for it.... that is a complete joke. I can understand paying for the cup, but the cup does not cost $2.29. Once I asked why I was paying $2.29 for tap water, the staff member said thats how much it costs. I left unhappy

The Hitching Post, located in Hyde Park, near the Fish Bone Restaurant is a place where you can step back into time and taste the past breakfast at grandmas house. Have my own saying about the Hitching Post, "Tie your stomach to the Hitchin Post and eat like a horse" A 2013 experience with memories of grandma and decent prices. Before we all got too fancy for our own good.

J was in a grumpy mood, most unpleasant. I had to pay full price for 2oz of breaded cube steak and one properly fried egg. I cannot eat the enormous portions they serve, but I have to pay for them. And they do not have hash browns anymore and they serve cheap white bread. They used to be pretty good, but I wont be going back anytime soon. It is too expensive!
