CENTRAL CAFE - The food steps up and the place steps back in time...GREAT! A slightly different aspect is what I want to help uncover, a few joints or as weve called them for years, "jaints" just outside the Triangle cities, that are just a good drive away or if have to go to nearby towns. Until today, it was years ago since I last ate in the Central Café operated by the Hardy family in Rocky Mount, NC since 1926. Thats right 1926 as in after WWI but before WWII. Some call it the "Corner Café" but it is Central. I had really great bacon, delicious scrambled eggs, good grits and whole wheat toast, all fresh, all hot, and real restaurant grade coffee! Everybody, including the help, spoke to everybody else, too! Before leaving Rocky Mount several folks said that the Central Café, located on the corner of South Church St and Western Avenue has the very best hot dogs and cheeseburgers in town. The Central Café with its high-back painted wooden seats clearly points to days gone by and you know, that felt pretty good, especially reading the menu listed on a Pepsi board! If I lived in Rocky Mount, Id be a regular and am glad that while on business there, I drove by 15 restaurants (debatable definition) to get the café. You should, too!

I have been coming to central cafe since I was a baby. I even have a family member who works there. The place is quite old and they only take cash so dont even bother with debit or check. The prices are also a little insane. I mean the food is awesome and everything but if your looking for a cheap meal then go to McDonalds or something. Plus for the most part the people who work there are old as crap. If you want a good burger and fries, then come on and stuff yourself. If you want a cheap burger head somewhere else.

Great hot dogs, hamburgers as well as hamburger steak or chicken salad. The burgers are JUICY, not GREASY! I started.coming here at 16, with my future hubby. We brought our kids here, and now my younger son brings his children (my grandchildren, Im proud to say).

Marissa provided me with such great service. Even gave me a little info about the quaint little town. Hotdog was great, I got one that Marissa recommended; it came with slaw and mustard. Seems like a little bit of chili too. Oh, and service was fast.

One of the best little local hamburger joints in the region and by far the favorite of anyone in or around the Rocky Mount area...A must try for anyone looking for a simple burger and a sun drop or my dew in a can!
