Love this PCJ. My husband and I have been spending "Get-away" weekends in Southport for several years now, and I grew up spending time at my familys weekend place in this lovely town since I was a kid (before PCJ even existed there). We started getting our breakfasts at PCJ on our "Get-away" weekends and havent been able to stop! This is the nicest shop from this chain that Ive been to- so much so, that it doesnt feel like part of a chain. The coffee is always hot, fresh, and tasty, with the drinks properly blended and balanced. Im not a coffee expert, but I can taste the difference between a poorly prepared Latte and a nice one. The food is great, and they are careful with my allergy restrictions every time. Ive also noticed that this location has a wider selection of baked goods than many others (my favorite is the coconut pecan cookie). They also offer Nyes Cream Sandwiches- if you havent tried these, they are handcrafted ice cream sandwiches made in nearby Wilmington- delicious! The people and atmosphere also make a huge difference in this PCJ. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and they listen to your order. There is one gentleman in particular who always has a smile on his face and plenty of cheer to go around. The line is often out the door on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The shop is immaculately clean and well kept, with pleasant decor and lots of local art on the walls. I always enjoy contemplating paintings and photos of my favorite local scenes while munching on my breakfast. You can find gatherings of locals enjoying their coffee together in the leather couch & chairs sitting area of the back room, and everyone lined up in their Sunday finest after church. The bulletin boards are covered in business cards and ads from local businesses and schools. They even leave bowls of water outside for dogs, and have a window for dog walkers to order at! Theyve really captured the small town feel, and breakfasts here have become an essential part of our vacation weekends.

I used to be a big fan of PCJ in Southport. That is until they decided to give you only one hour of free internet! This is the only coffee shop Ive ever heard of to do this. Why would you risk losing customers in order to make a few bucks per hour? I already paid five dollars for a latte. There are a lot of old people that come into this place who dont bring in their own laptops and use the internet. But, still it is so ridiculous for them to limit your use of the internet. Im never going here again. I would happily drive five or ten miles down the road than spend even a dollar here. I almost never give reviews online complaining like this. But, its really absurd that they can only give you ONE HOUR of free internet.

Pros: Free internet, good food, friendly staff, good interior, location. Cons: Can be noisy sometimes when the mixer is grinding ice/smoothy, should probably be moved to the back. Some things take a long time to be made, maybe hire more staff or remove from menu. Would like to see more options for baked goods. Still the best coffee place in town.

Coffee was above average and delicious. I had a sausage egg and cheese bagel and was honestly blown away by the flavor and texture that this breakfast presented. Wifi was provided, as well as a very comfortable atmosphere. Employees seemed happy and treated well. Happy employees turn a coffee trip to a memorable experience.

Went to the newly renovated PCJ today for my regular coffee fix. Something must be wrong with the new coffee machines. My Cafe au Lait was very bitter. I was terribly disappointed. Will try again. Hopefully the coffee will be better next time.

Port City Java offers a full range of caffeinated beverages, alone with a host of pastries and savory food items. The space is cozy and well-suited for parties looking to sit (in or outside) for a while and chat over some joe.

Great location for an energy boost and bathroom break during a walk around Southport. Friendly staff and some of my favorite coffee. Waiting area can be a little cramped but you probably wont be in it long.

Its a relaxing coffee shop with tables for groups, sofas to read or chat on, and personal sized tables to study on. The there is a good selection of coffees and lattes as well as some food options.

Love this pet friendly coffee shop! While pets are not allowed indoors, they have a window where you place your order and they give fido a special treat! Comfortable, cute, quiet and great coffee!

This irrestible modern gem is located a block away from a restaurant built in 1792 on the Atlantic Ocean. This shop includes WIFI access which is a rare find in the Southport/Oak Island area.

Nice atmosphere and local feel for someone from out of town. Definitely a small town style coffee shop, and had an incredible selection.

Just like any other overpriced coffee shop. Good coffee & stuff but when you charge $6 for a small smoothie, you cant get a good review.

Good coffee, but I feel like they but so much sugar in everything. Also, its a bit pricey, but it is a smaller coffee joint.
