We have now been to La Mezza Luna 3 times in less than 30 days. Words cannot describe how wonderful the food is. We heard about it through word of mouth (they really should advertise more)...then again, maybe they dont need too! We would have NEVER guessed that an outstanding mom-pop Italian restaurant would be positioned in such a poor location (strip mall with a Food Lion store). I only have two complaints - the location and the ambiance. Its fairly casual, but with a few little touches, dinner could be more than just casual. Tea lights on the tables would be a nice addition, cloth tablecloths and napkins could take it to the next level. The seating is a bit tight but its cozy for sure. Why do I mention these things? Because the food is what you would get from a great little place in Venice. I havent gotten one meal yet that has been anything shy of phenomenal. They couple the meal with salad, to-die-for-garlic knots....they even have carafe house wine like in Italy thats delicious. This place reminds us of our honeymoon in Italy...we cant keep from going back over and over. The only thing I hope is that they expand to a nicer location with more seating. (There is usually a line of people waiting to get in!) Prices range from about $12-22 per meal - a bargain in my opinion! RUN...dont walk to this great little nook in Charles Town, WV - our new favorite place!

Drove here from our Harpers Ferry B&B at their recommendation. The menu looks very appealing. According to our Waitress only the sauces are house made. My hubs had the bow tie pasta with shrimp and pink cream sauce. The sauce tasted like they added shrimp water to it. Yuck. Shrimp were overcooked and hard. My dish was the spinach fettuccine with chicken, pancetta, peas, onions and fresh mushrooms. It was ok, but the onions were like thick, long strips (think fajitas). This made us question if anyone in the kitchen has Italian background. My dish didnt have much chicken, peas were hard, but the rest was ok. Agree with another review that the garlic knots didnt have much flavor. Salad was good, very fresh and pit free olives :)

My co-worker knew I was looking for a great authentic Italian place to take my husband for his birthday and she suggested this one. Boy was she on spot! True Italian fresh and delicious, melt in your mouth goodness! ! The lasagna, the black pepper pasta stuffed with porcini mushroom and creamy Bolognese sauce, salads, garlic knots and even tiramisu, everything was fantastic! My husband and I will return again and again. Who needs Olive Garden and chains that dont even come close to being homemade like this? ! Mwah! Ciaobella!!

Service consistently apathetic. Waitresses are all young women who act like the only thing they care less for than their jobs is their customers. Its been like this every time Ive eaten there. We were once served by the manager, who was terse and impolite, so its no wonder the daft girls she hires are downright rude. They redid the booths and now the tables are around waist level. Very uncomfortable. If you can get past that, the food is ok, but no more Italian than your local olive garden, and generally more expensive.

I dont understand why this place gets such good reviews, it was one of the worst "Italian" restaurants Ive ever tried, I really wish we could get a true Italian restaurant in this area. The pasta was overcooked, the veal was like leather, the garlic knots that everyone raves about tasted like the stuff you can get in the frozen section of the grocery store. And there is SO much more to Italian cooking than just pasta drenched in flavorless sauce. Bleh, I miss South Philly.

Great food usually.. as long as you dont mind inattentive, ignorant and generally unhelpful staff.. who may or may not ever get everything you ask for to your table.. The wild inconsistency in quality and service is sad and makes it difficult to recommend what was one of my favorite places. If you do go, go in small groups and arrive at least 90 minutes before closing or youre almost guaranteed issues..

Pros: Good Italian sausage with a spagetti... Good tomato sauce too. Cons: The spagetti was overcooked and mushy (I expected better from an "Italian" restaurant). Also, the spagetti was very short... (probably broken in half prior to cooking) - The short, overcooked pasta reminded me of dinner at a place the caters to children. Finally, the salad was swimming in dressing.

We had a wonderful dinner, the food was fantastic. The waiter ( Dean) must have been having a bad day. Our water went empty and I didnt see him to refill it. I know it was busy Friday night but just stop by once in awhile. Oh and by the way, when Dean brought the check, thats when he wanted to be helpful with the to go boxes, keep trying grumpy ( Dean).

You can get a good, filling meal here, its just that everything seems a little tired -- the decor, the atmosphere, the wait staff, the salad. Its in a strip center with other restaurants, and the parking lot can be tricky. I dont know that there is a better Italian restaurant in Charles Town, but this one just ranks okay.

Calimari that is NOT like rubber! Amazing. Spaghetti that is NOT overcooked. Wonderful salad. Good service. Tremendous pricing (very inexpensive). My wife and I have been looking for a good Italian restaurant in the area and low and behold this little hidden place was it. Dont miss out on it.

A very busy which is always a good sign for good food. Therefore a bit noisy. However, the homemade marinara sauce and the sausage on my rigatoni dish were the best I had ever had. And the servings were very generous. I will definitely go again on my next trip to WV.

First time diners and it was great! Had veal and gnocchi and 2 beers, all for less than $40. Big servings, so taking enough home for lunch for 2 tomorrow. Yummmm. Thanks!

Tasty Italian served with bread and salad at a reasonable price. Way better than Olive Garden. Ive never had a bad meal there, and I eat there often.

We wanted a local resturant with good food and found it at La Mezzuluna. We will be back next time we are in town.

This is an Italian restaurant, so yes their Mexican food is lacking, but their chicken parmigiana is fantastic!

The food is really good for Charles Town area, but the service has really gone down hill in recent months.
