There was a very long wait, but not that many people there. We called ahead at 10 minutes until 6 and were told 25 minutes then, but werent seated until after 7 (more than a hour total). So, things started off bad when they didnt meet the expectations that they set. But it was a weekend, so we can take a wait. Off to bar to get a drink to the tune of $6.75 each. Ouch. In addition, the restaurant is small and very noisy and there isnt much of a chance to talk either while waiting or while eating. When we were finally seated, it took about 10 minutes more before we saw our waitress and got our order placed. The kitchen ran relatively efficiently, only about 20 minutes to get our food. So, after leaving home at 5:45, it was close to two hours later before we had the first bite of something to eat. Unfortunately, the food was not worth the wait. The bread was doughy and undercooked. The salad came with predressed rather than with dressing on the side, a dieting tip my wife uses. I understand the "al-dente" craze with vegetables, but I actually had a piece of cauliflower that was cold in the middle. My salmon was overly salted to the point that it stopped being salty and was just bitter. The baked potato was nice, although it was also coated with salt meaning to the point that the skin (one of favorite parts) was not edible. To the positive, the decor is nice. My wifes entree was cooked well and the dessert was very tasty. The only redeeming qualities. Overall, I found this place to be horrible. Weve eaten at other Firebirds in the past and it was much better. Until I see significant changes from them, we wont be back.

This was the second time wed been to Firebirds, so we were willing to give it two chances before rendering a verdict. But now the jurys in and the defendent is guilty of serving bad food. The pluses are the salads; the garden salad is good, and the strawberry and shrimp salad is good also, but both need a bit of extra balsamic vinegar because their vinagrette is simply too sweet. Luckily thats something you can fix at the table. Also, weve found the steaks there to be good; they dont do much too them and cook them to order, so theyre hard to mess up. Finally, the steak fries are ok, but very under-seasoned. Youll be reaching for the salt immediately. As for everything else weve tried -- weve been very, very disappointed. The chicken-corn chowder is just odd. The first thing you taste is an overwhelmingly heavy note of chili powder, which simply does not go with the remainder of the flavors in the chowder. The kids Chicken strips are completely flavorless. The only taste in them is of breading mix -- you might as well fry up a batch of it instead. The baby back ribs are likewise flavorless. No spicy rub, and not even a good dose of smoke flavor -- just a bland barbecue sauce. The buffalo meatloaf has flavor, but is so dry that youll be wishing for much more of the mushroom gravy. At least in that dish the pecan green beans are the saving grace! So, if youre willing to only eat steaks, the sides or the salads, its barely worth it, but for everything else, this overpriced restaurant is simply not worth the trip.

Big warning: No Rare Meat anymore. :( The burger that I ordered medium well (but begged to be taken off the grill too early) was very well done. (It is the one thing I hate about NC: burgers cant be less then MW.) Anyway, the A1 Burger was horrific. It literally had soooo much of some kind of rosemary sage-ish sauce it was inedible. Literally inedible! I ate two bites of the hard piece of charcoal burger and had to stop after starting to gag. Im a chunk and I love food, so it takes some pretty awful food to get me to gag. I was with company I couldnt cause a scene with, so i didnt want to call someone over just to b!tch, but had I been asked if I liked my food I would have told the server He!! No. But alas, I was never asked. Not even when he took away a totally uneaten plate of food. He just grabbed it and ran. I know that NC has this terrible rule, but then you shouldnt have a burger joint unless you can make the thing tasty. Ill be sticking to the Busy Bee Cafe for burgers. Chain chain chaaaiinn. Maybe thats what I get for going to a chainlike restaurant. I was very disappointed as I used to go to the Firebirds in Durham on a regular basis to get a delicious Med Rare burger. Maybe my expectations were just too high so the disappointment was even harder to take, but it was still completely inedible food. The frozen fries were good, though. I hate a few of my husbands for filler. Also, the bread they serve at the beginning is a little hard to eat. Not soft and hot and fresh.

Hostess/Waitstaff run away when they see female customers. WE had to ask them to come back and finish the job. Both behaviors of talk back rude, rush to get rid of, stand behind ear and yell in it, interrupt and yell, walk away while female are talking to them and sometimes they come back, eat food while wait on, repeat the same question. Waitstaff not like to write down the order. And we had to ask them to do it. They did it.Got angry not a tip and not spend much money. Gave food and drink. Ask if want anything more. And try to run away fast. There is a lot of seasoning in the fries and meat. The potato is very salty. And the prices is fine dining. Hostess gave the menu. And threw it on the table. A lot to eat on the menu. Decor is elegant. We not ask for ice. And got 3/4 ice in the drink.Food stays with us afterwards. Too much spice.

The only reason this gets four is because I had a great server, awesome, delicious food, but one thing was memorable for the wrong reasons. There was a slight issue with a dish at the table and the server did all he could to search for a manager to come talk to us. After some time, my friend just finished his meal, absolutely no worries for the server using his best efforts to find someone. Unfortunately, on my way to the restroom, I discovered what seemed to be a manager busy talking with some women at the bar. Almost positive he was a manager because he was up near the kitchen after I came back from the restroom. Seems that flirting was far more important than helping the guests. Kudos to my server, you were incredible! As far as the manager, I hope something changes with the priorities here.

This is by far my favorite restaurant to visit in Raleigh. EVERY time Ive visited, this establishment has met/exceeded my expectations. During my last dining experience, Rachel was our waitress. My party never had the opportunity to ask for drink refills because she proactively brought them to us. She was knowledgeable of the menu and suggested the coconut shrimps, which I loved! The front end staff is also amazing. We were able to call, on a Saturday night and add our names to the list for a table. When we arrived, we simply provided the name and was seated immediately! Talk about excellent customer service?! And lastly, the food is divine! A little pricey BUT I can guarantee you that it is going to be hot, delicious and made with some of the finest ingredients. This place is definitely a gem!
