My personal opinion maybe bias since I frequent the place several times a week. I have lived in North Hills for almost 4 years now. My first few times visiting the restaurant were not very pleasant. The wait staff and food were inconsistent at best. I actually stopped going for almost two years. About 8 months or so I stopped in for a drink while I waited for a table at Chuys. I sat down and noticed that they had some of my more favorite beers on tap, and even more taps than I recalled. I had a beer and left... I came back a little later the next week on my way home, figured I would relax somewhere instead of being packed into Yard House or WoB. The bar staff was very pleasant and entertained conversation when it allowed. I paid my tab and left, I left feeling different though. A few days later I go back after a long day again, the bar tender poors me my "signature" drink and says, "here you go Kevin". Is this cheers? I didnt remember their name, hope this isnt a test. Haha I have been back so many times now that most all of the staff knows me on a first name basis. I have also come to learn all the great ways to create my very own perfect pizza pie or salad. I would normally be ashamed to admit that I have a staple when it comes to a restaurant, but Piola is that place for me. After a long day I can relax with a great brew, stimulating conversation, and some meatballs!

I know a lot of the reviews on here are old so I want to be clear that I am writing about Piola since the new owner purchased it a few months ago. I use to eat here seldomly because, to be honest, I never had very good service even thought I love their pizza and food. I heard they were under new management and I was closeby for a bluegrass show at the NH amphitheatre so I decided to give it another try. I have been back quite a bit since and decided it was time to sign off on the turnaround I have seen. The food is still some of the best italian food in Raleigh but now the service is what you would expect from a place like this. If you havent been there lately, I say give it another try. The food is still delicious. I had their ravioli and meatball special last night and it was the best $10.99 Italian meal I have had in Raleigh. The Houston is still my favorite pie but I havent had one I dont like. I am not saying the place is perfect. They could have a few more beers on tap and a wider variety but you can definitely tell that the waitstaff and managers appreciate your business.

Whats with the five star reviews? Yes, the food is good but its not great. Is it authentic Italian? I dont know, I did a study abroad in Italy, and I ate a lot of pizza because pizza is super cheap there, and I think every pizza I ate there was #1, better, and #2 completely different from this pizza I had here at Piola. But then Im not an expert on Italian food so maybe the food at Piola is more authentic to another part of Italy, or something. Authentic or not, the service was really bad. I dont need someone to fawn over me, in fact I prefer to be left alone, but our waiter was MIA, and the place wasnt even busy. When we had finished our drinks we were SOL because our waiter never came back for refills, or offers of new drinks, or anything. It was just order, food, check, bye. I dont know if its because we didnt order the pricey mixed drinks and he thought we werent worth the time, or what the deal was. I felt like we were being brushed off. I really wanted to like this place since its like 5 minutes from my house, but nothing about this experience was worth it for me.

This place came a long way starting as contemporary italian, now italian with wings and sports Restaurant and Bar. No identity what so ever. The pizza dough is good surprisingly. Unfortunately ruined by using sparsely and cheap topping ingredients. The salads are such a disappointment. rotten lettuce, right out of the Harris teeter package. The kitchen is inconsistent, sometime we get a half decent meal, another times.. not so much. My favourite dishes are the penne rosatte, iths a smoked salmon past, nothing much in to it, its just a matter make it right. The service, just disappointing and embarrassing. inexperience, untrained, egger for easy money. What a waist. This is a prime location, great outdoor seating but the successive bad management just insight in serving bad food and hire college kids.

THIS IS THE BEST FOOD I HAVE EATEN SINCE I MOVED HERE 6 YEARS AGO. I eat there at least 3 times a week so i have tried much of the menu and have yet to be disappointed! the drinks are a little pricey but well worth it. i had the CAPIROSKA which is fresh strawberries and/or kiwi crushed with vodka. the service is exceptional. Shane is always my server....she is by far the the most attentive server i have encounter in a long time.....she always knows what i need before i realize it!!!! definately my new favorite place!!!

Piola has some of the best Italian fare in Raleigh a very reasonable price. Couple that with a stellar beer and wine list and you have a winning combination. I recently visited with the owner and a good friend and we shared a couple pizzas and the outstanding Valle Dei Temple app with prosciutto layers atop buffalo mozzarella. Fantastic! The staff is friendly and attentive and helps work through the extensive menu. I highly recommend for that hard to find combination of casul atmosphere and excellent food.

The ONLY good thing about this place was the lighting and music. All the employees were shady, laughing, staring at you while you ate, didnt get our order right and were only there for a paycheck. The food was bland and greasy- even asked our waitress something she would recommend for sensitive stomachs but it was ALL horrible with grease. Didnt bother my stomach since I refused to eat it. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone, even the people whom I dislike.. Save your money and go get a frozen pizza!!!

Ive had lunch here twice and dinner once (on Wed, half price wine night). I had friends with me both times and we all loved the food and service. The food is sooo flavorful. I cant believe some of these reviews. I especially liked the "FETTUCCINE AL RAGÙ" I asked for penne instead of fettuccine and they had no problem with that. Maybe the reviews about the service being bad has made them change, because the manager came and asked us how everything was, too.

Was having a few beers at World of Beer for ACC tourney. Decided to call Piola to have pizza brought over and use my Citipass BOGO coupon. I was rudely declined and almost mocked for trying to use the coupon for carryout or delivery. Arent pizza places known for delivery or carryout? It says nothing on coupon about it having to be dine-in only. I guess I should of sat down, ordered my pizza and immediately asked for a to-go box. Terrible customer service.

There is nothing good to say about the pizza. I ordered the Margherita pizza, which is supposed to be fresh basil with mozzarella and tomato sauce. There are maybe 6 tiny pieces of torn basil on a cheese pizza. Nothing special with virtually no effort. For all I know this pizza came out of a freezer. Their menu lists wonderful ingredients and toppings but the quality speaks volumes. Do not fall for it- do not order from this place!
