We went here for lunch today to finish off our trip to Blowing Rock. The Good - The place has great ambiance. It is cozy and has a nice outdoor seating area if the weather is nice. The decor is old school English pub and makes you feel at home with a beer in hand. - My wifes french onion soup tasted like french onion soup? The Bad - Our waitress paid us no attention. We didnt get refills on water, we werent asked how our food was until we had nearly finished it all. We were given the check before we were ready to leave and pay. - People who say the shepherds pie (or cottage pie) here is great at Six Pence Pub have never had real shepherds pie. The dish I got today was nothing more than a bowl of chili with peas and carrots with a scoop of mashed potatoes on top. There was no gravy and no sense that the dish was cohesively baked together. It really tasted just like chili from Wendys with some extra ingredients thrown in there so they could call it "Shepherds Pie." Bottom line: good ambiance, okay beer selection, the food is average to below-average. Maybe we ordered the wrong items today but Im not sure Id give this place a second try. There are much better places to go to in Blowing Rock.

This is a fabulous place. A brilliant Combo of American and European food, this place has a special something for everyone. If you wish to feel the vibrance, be seated at the bar or the adjoining restaurant. If you want to enjoy your plate amidst natures sweet music, come to the charming patio. On a chilly and drizzly afternoon we found our oasis here. Our experimental selves ordered Scotch Eggs and loaded Banger for starters and we were suitably rewarded .They were wonderful. Be it the very dear old Shepherds Pie or Fish and Chips or the ever new Banger and Mash as entree , the food completely won our hearts. While many other highly recommended places have time restrictions, this place will win your tummy and heart , throughout the day .

Had an interesting experience. The waiter/kitchen lost our food ticket so the food was never made. He came out to tell us after 30 minutes or so. It still took another 15 min to get the food (when in reality we should have been the priority at that point). Then when we did get the food, there was a piece of blue plastic cooked into it. The manager came out and comped that dish and apologized, then when we told him how long we had to wait he said that no one even mentioned it to him and comped the entire meal. All of the food was really mediocre and overpriced, especially for sandwiches. Its a bit sad since Ive had good meals here before, although it was years ago.

We stopped for lunch here after camping along the Blue Ridge Parkway at Julian Price Park. It was very cold overnight, dropping to 30 °F, so we wanted something warm and decided to split a bowl of chicken wing soup and an order of Sheppards pie. Both were very good, especially the chicken wing soup, which had just a bit of spice. They also have a good selection of local beers - I had a delicious Pumpkin Ale to celebrate the fall season. Overall, the food was great, the service was good, and the prices were comparable to other places.

So, so disappointed in our selection... I got the Sheppards pie that came with a nice salad. The problem with entree was the ground meat under good potatoes was so greasy! I really was thankful for salad because I ate only a couple of bites of S. Pie, and started to feel sickly...My husband ordered hot roast beef over bread...sorry but had a fake out of can taste.....green beans had no flavor at all. Im not trying to be ugly, but with the price we paid , we expected a tasty meal....Disappointed to say the least....

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Really good English-pub grub and drinks. Great atmospheres, both inside and out. Their Shepherds Pie was from heaven. The salad was fresh and crisp, and the burgers juicy and flavorful. Golden-delicious grilled cheese sandwiches, the fries were also crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside - generous portions. I thoroughly enjoyed their English beers, Id highly recommend the Speckled Hen - a smooth beer with a think delicious top.

Very English/British/Irish restaurant pub and cuisine and a wonderful atmosphere if you like that type of thing. The only thing that seemed to be missing was a dartboard though I may have missed it. Lots of good "stodge" options on the menu including Shepherds Pie and Bangers and Mash. Beer and wine options are quite good. Personally, I found the food to be a little more salty than I like but my tolerance is lower than most.

It was a sad experience for my husband and myself. It was very disappointing since the reviews raved about how amazing the food was here. Unforntuately the food was sub par .... Very salty.... Romaine was brown....Service need much improvement....the server was more worried about serving the elderly customers than check in on us. Wishing I could take back all the money we spent there and went somewhere else.

Weve had several wonderful meals here over the past few years however the last couple times have not impressed us. Today it seemed the cook was relying on salt and pepper to give the food flavor. There was a fair amount of food left on the table. When the server finally cleared the table she thought nothing of removing dishes that were half full. We might give them one last try after the tourist season.

No English Pub in England uses Peanut Oil to cook the food in. If your going to pretend to have "English food" at least cook it right. Peanut allergies are one of the most common in the world, and always growing. It is one of the most common causes of severe allergy attacks. When will Americans learn to stop using it in Restaurants. There are so many other replacements.. there is no need for it.

Service was great, drinks were great. The food, not so much. My girlfriend and I both ordered the hot roast beef and it was definitely nothing to brag about for the price. The food was barely hot upon arriving to the table and was quite dry for what it was. Our friends all had excellent things to say about Six Pence.. Maybe we just got the wrong thing? Well be back for another try one day!

Food was ok here. Ive had the shepherds pie first time i ate here and it was decent. Second time i went i ordwred crab cakes with mashed potatoes with gravy. Crab cakes were ok, but not served very hot. The gravy on the mashed potatoes tasted very strange. It tasted slightly sour and had this odd smell to it. They definitely need to get their food to a hot temperature before serving it.

Stopped in for lunch with the kids and had a great experience. Kids had the grilled cheese and fries which was of better than average quality. My shepherds pie was really good and with a right sized portion and side salad. The draft beer selection is okay and will suit most beer people. They did have the founders breakfast stout which I love. Good venue for casual lunch or dinner.

AMAZING. Appetizers & main dishes were so delicious. We got the potato fritters to start. I got the Shepards pie (great for a rainy or cold day). My boyfriend got the fish & chips it was excellent. He also got an old fashion & highly recommends it. Our waitress, Logan, was also so wonderful!! Checked on us often & always had a smile on her face! Cant wait to come back!
