I should never go to a restaurant an hour before they close and have the waitress come up to me as soon as I sit down and tell me that I need to hurry and decide because the kitchen is already cleaning before Ive even opened the menu. I am a waitress and have been for 8 years and would NEVER talk to my customers like that. Our waitress was the heavyset Hispanic woman that I have seen others complain about Im other reviews. Havent even gotten our food yet and I was already put off enough to feel like writing a review. Terrible service. Hope the food is good... Food: ordered a shrimp tempura roll which I had to eat with my hands to keep it together.. Half of my rice is in the sit sauce bowl.. Ginger dressing is too sweet. My sister got hibachi chicken and shrimp with a very skimp portion of rice. I had chicken fried rice. Good after I had to load it with soy sauce... Wont be back though due to lack of decent service.

This was probably hands down the worst experience Ive had at a restaurant in a long time. We have come to this restaurant over many years when it was under different ownership and had great experiences for birthday events as well as other events. What happened last night has a birthday celebration was terrible. The waiters seemed like they were possibly high on drugs. They dropped food on the table in front of us eating spilled drinks while trying to refill the glasses as well as dropped a cake that we brought in ourselves to celebrate with on the table. When I confronted the manager after the meal there was no apology given and he acted like he really didnt care. I would like to let the owners of this restaurant know that I will highly consider not returning to have an event at this restaurant ever again. Definitely I do not recommend dining at this restaurant.

I have never had such a horrible experience!! The restaurant was very very filthy.They have a serious ant problem,our table settings had a few ants crawling on them. I ate there with my family and the steak was tough and it did not smell right. I complained about it yet nobody did anything to resolve the problem.I was waiting for the manager to talk to me since the server said the manager will be with me shortly,but never came. Staff were on their cellphones the whole time and were just laughing and playing because the restaurant was like a ghost town. Poor management and poor service. I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Food is over priced, cheff and server were not the best. We sat with a couple and the cheff tammy cooked for us.The only good thing was the sake they were selling. But over all, this restaurant is not as good as how it used to be.

We are locals to Asheville and have eaten here numerous times over the years and have endured the gradual decline through various owners and changes. Our last visit will be just that. We had a reservation to celebrate Fathers Day and were seated promptly. The restaurant was vacant we were one of two tables there. After 15 minutes we asked the hostess if she could send over our waiter. He approached and seemed bothered by us, no apology for the wait. Took our drink and meal orders. I asked for a sushi menu and he said the sushi bar is closed because we havent had enough business try back in August. We waited for 25 min to get our drinks. Food was decent. Tons of rice skimpy on veggies and meats. If anything I guess try it out in August.

The first time experience with the new restaurant was 5 star the chef Tommy highly 5 star the last three visits including last night have been a waste of money. The Latino chef cannot cook !! The third time having this chef last night was so atrocious. one- the party of 4 asked for two no mushrooms so he gives the broccoli zucchini to the 3 and the mushrooms to the 4th . The party of 2 just onions and carrots . Two no sauces till after rice and veggies served . 3-we each ordered extra shrimp 5 was the extra . i ordered extra steak, cooked rare the steak was still refrigerator temp could not eat . By the way complained to owner and the owner said would have Tommy train that the chef was new, total waste of a 100.00

This restaurant is just nothing but the best. The staff are very polite and attentive, the chefs just give the best show and they cook the best hibachi ever!! I will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends and my other family members!! They serve the best and the freshest food!! If you are around Asheville or if you live in Asheville this restaurant is definitely a must try!! I will definitely be a regular customer. The owner also mentioned that theyre serving sushi early this year or maybe this month.

Too many people get online just to gripe and complain. Did your mama never tell you, "if you dont have any thing nice to say dont say anything at all?!?!" Well Yama is awesome! We went late, close to closing and were there to celebrate a special occasion. They werent too busy but we still had great service, food and and overall experience! We clapped for our Chef and gave him a high five as he left. Any below negatives should be promptly erased! Best sit down Japanese in Western North Carolina!

Sucked!! Upon coming in we were sat rudely then five minutes later a sad sad server came to take out order she seemed to want to take our food order at the same time, perhaps to save a trip to our table. 10 minutes later she came with our drinks and we tried to place an appetizer order, again she tried to take our dinner order. At this point we left because we were getting fast food service not $20+ a plate date night experience we thought itd be.

The service is horrible! As a large family that eats out several times a month we understand having to wait to be seated, but when you wait almost 2 hours, dont get the food you ordered, get nothing to drink for 45 minutes and then get charged for drinks and food you did not order....not a fun night! Then you post your review to face book and the wait staff comment, never taking blame for the poor serice they provided!

The food was terrible. I ordered hibachi shrimp and it tasted like it was steamed. The shrimp was mushy, rice had no flavor, and the white sauce is horrible. We spent over $60 on our takeout order, which we never do, and it was a total waste of money. Hopefully i dont end up sick. Im a restaurant manager and know all about food safety. This did not appear to be up to those standards.

I was very impressed. My wife and I were in town for our 13th wedding anniversary. We visited the same location (different restaurant) on our third anniversary. The hostess, wait staff and chef were such a pleasure and we enjoyed everything about our experience. When we come back to Asheville we will be sure to visit you again.

The service was terrible! We will not go back! The food and Chef were good, but the bad service ruined it!!! There were so many things wrong. And when brought to the staffs attention, they really didnt seem to care! If that wasnt enough, they got almost all of our bills wrong and over charged one persons debit card.
