My husband and I got to East Village Grill a little before 8. We seated ourselves, and our waitress took our drink order. That was the end of the quick service. Our waitress took 15 minutes (about 2 minutes before we were about to walk out) to get a beer, a glass of wine, and a water, despite the fact that we were sitting RIGHT NEXT TO THE BAR. We then placed our orders. 15 minutes later (again, almost right after we decided to give her a few minutes before leaving), or appetizer came. 10 minutes after that, our salads came. We waited so long after we finished our salads that we agreed wed give her 10 more minutes before getting a manager and leaving. Keep in mind, I said we got to EVG a little before 8. It was 8:55 when our waitress came with our entrees, 6 minutes before our agreed upon exit time. And after all that waiting, our food had digested, and we were no longer truly hungry, not to mention the fact that we were so turned off by the service, our food no longer looked appetizing. My husband said his ravioli tasted storebought and frozen and the chicken had grillmarks, while we failed to notice an open-flamed grill anywhere (you do the math). To be honest, had it come a little quicker, we may not have complained so much. But when you are made to wait that long for food, it better be FANTASTIC, and this food fell well short of that. Also add to that the fact that our waitress couldnt be bothered to apologize for the wait and let us know our food was indeed coming. Our water glasses got to empty and stayed that way for many minutes before she could be bothered to come around and fill them for us. This waitress could have made a killing off of us in tips. We had plans to get drinks, appetizers, entrees, and dessert with coffee. However, her service was so subpar and it took so long to get our food that our appetites were shot and we didnt feel like finishing our own entrees (a rarity for my husbad) let alone sticking around for dessert. The only thing that kept her from getting completely stiffed on tips was that fact that she did make it to us just before we were ready to walk out of the restaurant each time.

I am a native local from Riceville who has moved back to the area this past year. I fell in love with East Village, the bar-tender is great, the food fabulous. I have introduced EVG to many new people, including someone with me, today. However, today I sat at a table by the window in the bar. I am 62 and when I went to cross my leg something very sharp scraped across my knee and took the skin off my knee in various locations. My friend and I looked under the table and lo and behold....whoever made the tables used stables that were too long and they were sticking out all over underneath. To make a long, ridiculous, story shorter...the reaction of the manager was not appropriate. Not on any level. I had said to the waitress, "Well tell your manager they can buy my dinner tonight for taking the skin off my knee". (Btw, I had ordered a plain hamburger and tea, as well as their baklava which is the best I have had outside of Greece). My bill was only $15.00. The manager sent the waitress back and said "the manager wouldnt take anything off but I took the baklava off"...wait, what? A regular customer? Who brings in new business? Really?!?!?! Then the manager gets involved when I complain to the great bartender, who looks a bit baffled and seems to not want to buck the manager. I take the manager to the table to show her, she makes excuses "Well whoever made the table..." etc etc. Then she follows me outside attempting to continue down playing the situation. I told her she was making things worse. She continued to...make things worse...by asking to see my knee. So for the cost of a cheese burger, East Villages manager lost a consistent and talkative customer. A shame really. An apology and my cheeseburger, and all would have been well. I would suggest the owner look up how much it costs to lose a loyal customer and decide if $15.00 was worth both adding the insult to the injury, by their "manager". (The answer from one business owner to another...no, it wasnt worth it). The manager needs training, and the tables need to be addressed.

Best restaurant in Asheville!!! The best fried food I have ever had! I am amazed its not put down as number one. I have not been disappointed eating here. As a few other reviews mentioned you get size and quality. If your someone that doesnt eat big meals, you will have dinner or lunch for the next day. Did I say everything was great: wings, burgers, rubens, philly cheese steak, chicken sandwiches, and number one is their potato salad! I have never had a problem with their staff; with having a great owner, its not a question. The food always comes out hot and in decent time. Nothing to complain about with them except the prices could be lower with "some things"; but much worth it for getting so much food! If you havent tried it, go their the next time you go out. You can also get food to go. Keep up the good work East Village Grille!

If youre a quantity over quality kind of person, this is the place for you. Yet its not just size that makes the East Village Grille so tempting, although yes the heaping amount of food they give you is inciting; every bite of every burger, or sandwich Ive ordered there has been on point, flavorful, and down right delicious. The service was friendly, and quick to get your order, and in comparison to almost any other place to eat; the food was made relatively fast. Recommendations: The rightfully named Seal Team Six burger - the mission is to finish the damn thing - or the Kitchen Sink, just two of the whopping burgers, that will please your palate and leave you on crutches if you scarf it down to quick.

Stay away, lots of other places. These people are extremely rude. We went in last night with a party of 12 and said we could split up. They refused to sit us even though there were open tables. We were told someone called ahead with a party of 12 and they were holding the tables for this fictional party. Well 45 minutes later they still refused to seat us and the other party never showed up. We left and went to a great restaurant, the Stone Ridge tavern, who were glad to have us. Dinner was good, service outstanding. Looks like EVGs stupidity and rudeness left them 24 people short for dinner tonight. We will never go back even though several of us were regulars.

Will never go back and will tell everyone I know not to go. They say wings are special on Monday night, but then they charge you for the dressing and the celery so its really not much of a special at all. We used to go all the time, but after time and time again of rude service or no service, we will just drive by and choose another place. A waiter accidentally dumped a huge tray of wings on my daughter which ran down her clothing. They gave her a shirt to change to, but then wanted to charge us for the shirt. Greedy, unprofessional ownership and staff.
