I used to LOVE this place. I still love the idea, the wine list, the staff. What Im not a big fan of is that theres never a night that you can sit quietly with company and enjoy their wine list and excellent staff. The space is small. Its a great little venue for certain types of music. Unfortunately, they dont seem to curate this as well anymore. So if its after 8pm? Get ready to not be able to hear your companions, and sometimes be ready to get a headache. I say this as someone who was a musician in another life. I love music. I love bands. I want all the bands to have all the success. Id just like to see them get it somewhere else once in a while. Then, theres the recent changes to the back lounge area. Another mixed bag. I dig what theyre doing, cheese, bites, pairings. Neat! Except what used to be the space to which you could retire and, as mentioned above, hear your company? Its now a cheese counter and three bar stools. So while I still have a soft spot in my heart for 5 Walnut Wine Bar, I have twice now in recent weeks walked in and walked right back out after realizing that gone is the little wine bar that was. A pity.

Went there on two different nights; first night saw a solid and home style New Orleans jazz quintet; next night a very contemporary grooving R&B trio. Both awesome. Crowded space but well served by hardworking and friendly hostesses. Great atmosphere with big open windows that invite the passerby to stop on in !

Nice place and atmosphere...... But only 3 stars because you cant claim to be a wine bar and than only have horrible wines.... Im not trying to be a wine snob but there isnt one bottle in the whole building that they paid more than $10 for. Great hang out for people that dont know about wine.

Had the pleasure of listening to an African percussion band last week. I think they are regulars there on Wednesday nights. Great service and drink selections and everyone there was really nice. Nothing but great things to say about 5 Walnut Wine Bar and the City of Asheville.

Great wine selection coupled with expert, efficient service and the live music acts are always spot on. Id also suggest getting a locally sourced cheese platter from the cheese bar next door. Pairings for the preferred experience. ;)

First time in Asheville was recommended to go check out this spot for music after dinner & it was great! Super cute spot with music and nice bartenders. They let me sample a few wines :) would come back for music again!

They almost always have live music and no cover charge. Often the music starts pretty early which is great for me. Wine and beer only, but a good selection of both. It can get crowded at times, its a small place.

This place is awesome. Hands down the best place we visited in Asheville. Great wine, great cheese and great staff. A real nice relaxing neighbourhood vibe. If you are in Asheville you need to go here!
