So I stopped by here on a Sunday afternoon, and I am writing this review as a confession of sorts. As my girlfriend and I entered, a woman greeted us and offered any table in the restaurant, as we had happened to be the only customers there. We chose a booth next to a small window and talked over a squeaky table. I said to my girlfriend that I wasnt having a great first impression, and that we may have made a mistake. Shortly after, we were given 2 menus: 1 typical American; hamburgers, buffalfo wings, jalapeno poppers, etc. and 1 Sri Lankan menu; about 6 or 7 items on this menu in total. My girlfriend and I both chose 2 different items from the Sri Lankan menu. 15 minutes later our food was presented, and here is where my conviction for writing my first restaurant review in my life begins. I cant come up with any decent foodie words to describe the food I ate, but it was simply amazing, and incredibly satisfying. I forgot about the empty restaurant, my reservations about the decor and settings, and indulged in one of the best prepared and best tasting dishes Ive eaten in long time. This small, quaint, unintriguing restaurant on 9D is a special secret. A secret that should be shared, and dont you let it be a secret, go and have a dish here. Inexpensive, healthy, and delicious. I also want to add that the chef, and apparent owner, was incredibly friendly, enthusiasitc, confident, and genuine. He told us that on Fridays he has a Sri Lankan buffet, with everything cooked in sight, and I certainly am looking forward to next Friday, Ill be there. Anyway, in short, just go get some food here. If you dont, I dont care, but your tummy will.

I did a quick google search of "diners" in the Beacon area and was drawn to the good reviews of Red Pepper Diner. I had failed to look carefully enough to see this was a Sri Lankan restaurant, but after realizing we had just stumbled on an awesome spot, I was grateful for my mistake. My wife and I greatly enjoyed the Sunday buffet of various Sri Lankan dishes, complete with freshly cooked hoppers w/ egg. The staff was courteous and friendly, the food delicious, hot and fresh, and the restaurant had a great local feel to it. We are in the process of buying a home in the area and will be back for sure!

1st time here, had a gift certificate from restaurant dot com site for The Red Pepper Diner. We tried the Sri Lanka menu(versus the traditional American menu option)- everything was delicious and fresh. Owner/cook/waiter can adust the spicyness of the food - we both order our food on the mild side & no salt - the Devilled Pork and Kothu Roti with chicken dishes were excellent. we were told about the buffet on Fridays and Sundays- we will be planning to come back on one of these days to check out /sample the other Sri Lanka dishes made there. Highly Recommended.

Recently taken over by a new ownership, this little hidden gem of the Hudson Valley turns out to be the only Sri Lankan restaurant within 2 hours of Manhattan. Although the exterior doesnt say much the quality of the chef inside is unparalleled. His American cuisine is remarkable but his Sri Lankan food is the real star of the show. if you dont know what it is imagine Indian food without the grease or overbearing spice. The food is fairly priced and you get quite the bang for your buck. Just seconds off of 84 and close to beacon its well worth stopping by.

After months of disappointing meals at numerous eateries, I was greatly pleased to eat at the Red Pepper Diner last night. I had a tasty vegetable soup that included a perfectly cooked shrimp. The shrimp had actual taste and texture. It has been a long time since I ate cheap farmed shrimp. The main entree was a rice dish with a variety of tasty treats circling it. Each had its own strong taste, and they complimented each other well. Dessert was the incredible watalappan -- a coconut custard. I am looking forward to my next visit.

MUST VISIT!! For 3 years I drove by this place, curious as to what it was but I never ventured in because the outside doesnt give off the best vibe. DO NOT BE FOOLED. Finally, my fiancée and I went in and it was ABSOLUTELY DELECTABLE. The food was some of the best tasting we have had in YEARS. The restaurant was immaculate and the owners were attentive to every little detail. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I cannot wait to come back.

Delicious food. The spices and sauces are incredible. The owners are cooking the food to order and care about your experience. This is shown by the currently 49 5 star reviews. Two minor critiques, though... the standard American food served here is probably not necessary since the Sri Lankan food is the star here, and calling itself a diner sells itself short. I say this because people may pass this place by if they think its merely a diner.

An undiscovered gem in the Hudson Valley! The food is great. Wonderful family running the place. Low key and casual. Good prices. The spices on the Sri Lankan dishes are delicious. Not too hot, kind of bright. Go and try the sample plate! (One disappointment was the egg bowl dish. Not much flavor.) This is a place to go at very least once, and then youll likely be back every few months.

The food was amazing! Ignore their American food menu and go right for their Sri Lankan rasa menu. We had the biryani (the flavors in this were just wow! I will be having this again) and the kothu roti. Both were delicious. We also had a side of roti with the Dahl and coconut Sambol. Im not a coconut fan but oh my this was fantastic. We will definitely be eating here again!

The fragrant spices in their delicious curries are as warm as the friendly family who owns this restaurant. Authentic, healthy and flavorful meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, comes with lots of options and made to order coconut rice pancakes I cant pronounce. We really enjoyed sampling a little of everything, I left this place feeling full... and happy.

A must when visiting the Beacon area. The price for the buffett was just a little high for the area, but the quality of the food definitively more than made up for it. The Sri Lankan items they had as part of the buffet were amazing - beautifully cooked. The service was very friendly and personal. Ill definitively come back he next time I visit Beacon.

This is a great place and they are very friendly. There are two set of menu, American diner menu and a Sri Lankan menu. Of course two times I was passing thru this city, stopped there and tried the Sri Lankan menu. It was delicious. Spiced it up right. I would definitely recommend this place.

On a road trip back with some friends and decided to stop by this place based on its reviews. They werent wrong. The service was prompt and the food was great! Spent about $15 each for an appetizer and entree and was satisfied! Definitely worth stopping by!
