I have been waiting for the perfect day to go to Shadows. That day finally came to find the HUDSON RIVER VIEW was BREATHTAKING, everything else, not so much!!! We were seated on the side overlooking a CONSTRUCTION site of what appears to be a parking lot for the marina. Our lunch was interrupted everal times by the usual sounds of construction. So much for our peaceful lunch..:

My drive to Shadows was probably the best part of my dining experience. With the exception of the company I was with, the night was pretty awful. Upon walking into the restaurant the hostess not only pointed at us, she also referred to us as "them" to another hostess after we JUST gave her our name. Our party of 3 showed up less than 10minutes late for our 6:30 reservation which the hostess told us on the phone would be the best time for a outer table with a view. We were seated not on the outer dinning room however, but sandwiched between a 24pax and a 16pax in the main dinning room with a total of about 4 large parties. We were unable to even hear the hostess bid us well. After asking our server Tina if we could move she responded "i have no idea what they do up there and try to stay away". About 10 minutes later after having our waters poured and drink orders taken, the hostess finally came to tell us it would be an additional 30minute wait for a different table, and no, we couldnt stay at the table to wait, we would have to return to the hostess stand. At this point we gave up and ate our mediocre food in extreme noise, needing to shout to converse across the table. Nothing about our experience was warm or welcoming and I would rate it lower than an applebees or ihop.

Went to Shadows for a special family dinner before leaving Poughkeepsie, was not aware of recent changes. We loved Shadows in the past and this was our "special" place. Ordered a wine, it was no longer on the menu very disappointed. Offered another wine to find out they did not have that either. My brother ordered a drink they didnt have the mixer but they always did in the past. They came back and told him they had enough to make him one drink. My mom had to order a $$ drink, instead of the wine, I had water. When we were nearly finished with our meal they came to us and said they had the second choice wine available. The dinner rolls tasted so bland my 7 year old grandson wouldnt even eat them. So they brought him a toasted hamburger roll with melted greasy butter all over the top, he refused that too. Our 10oz Prime rib was dry and tasteless with very little au jus visible, mash potatoes were luke warm. The place is beautiful, the location cant be beat. The food used to be outstanding. Two entrees, two appetizers, a kids meal, and 4 drinks, $150.00+ $35 tip+ $185.00. They never offered a complimentary drink for all the disappointment, although our server did his best with what he had to work with. I hope by next year things improve, I would like to go back again.

I have been coming to this restaurant for about 4 or 5 years. I dont live near the restaurant but make it a point to come here anytime I travel upstate. The views are unremarkable! Theres an outside bar to watch the sunset and outdoor tables overlooking the water. The food is always consistently amazing! The restaurant was just renovated recently and they also changed the menu. Now its even better. The biggest deference this visit was the staff. They were so friendly and much more attentive. My husband and I ordered wine at the bar. The bartender, Michael, struck up a conversation with us and recommended a wine he thought we would like more. He was right! It was outstanding. Not only did he tell us about the wine, he also told us about local places to go. Such a genuinely nice guy. Then we were amazed by our server, Melody. She made great recommendations and took our order without writing it done. We commented how could she remember our order and she pointed to the table next to us. She said they were there the week before and still remembered their order, down to the smallest detail. I have always loved Shadows on the Hudson, but Michael and Melody made the night even better. Cant wait to go back!!

My friend and I just had lunch here last week, and it was a beautiful environment and the food was wonderful. The waitstaff was a bit slow in attending to us, but it wasnt a big deal, and when it was all said and done, my friend and I split the bill. I told the waiter to run a certain amount on my debit card while my friend paid for hers in cash. He ran the amount I told him to, I signed the receipt, wrote "CASH" on the tip line, and we left. We left a generous tip, but that wasnt enough for the waiter apparently. I just checked my bank statement and saw that after we left, he ran the entire amount of the bill on my card and pocketed all of the cash my friend put in. Unfortunately, I didnt save my receipt, so the only thing I can do now is warn other patrons that this restaurant has a thieving waitstaff and not to give them their credit/debit cards for any reason. The amount you expect to pay is not what they will actually charge you. That waiter gave himself a $20.00 tip on a $31.36 check. Thank god we didnt have a more expensive lunch!!

Everything looked great. The view. Everything. But I had the worst food poisoning in my life this day. All night long. A day ill never forget. I had the sea food platter with lobster mussels, raw oysters. I also ordered the salmon that came with some disgusting corn. overall i would give the seafood platter a 3 out of 10 for taste and the salmon a 5 for taste.. I never make a big deal but Im rewriting this a year after my visit because my experience is still so vivid. The night of my visit I literally had the worst food poisoning in my life. after watching youtube videos of check ramsay, i cant imagine what goes on in the kitchen at this place.. anyway the manager did call me back to offer me a free meal, i told him that there is just absolutely no way that i would ever eat there again. I dont think he fully understand the magnitude of my food poison in the bathroom from 10pm until 9am and still sick for another day.. hope this helps. im sure Im one of the few but if there is anyone else out there who got sick please post.
