There are moments when you just dont want to stare out into the sky alone, so head over to Starry Nights instead. This café is nestled right in the heart of the Neighborhood of the Arts (NOTA), and the artwork inside the place does not disappoint. Immediately you are welcomed with a HUGE mural design on the side of the wall of a spectacular nighttime aurora. This happens to be a great spot to meet people, because there are plenty of comfy seating areas. This is by far the BEST outdoor patio out of all the coffee shops in Rochester because it gives you a birds eye view of all the men going into the Bachelor Forum. You come here for the unique coffee flavor combinations you cant seem to find anywhere else, and the dessert case is primo! It is also a bonus to look at the variety of artwork in the bathroom stalls, which makes time pass by more quickly. This is also one of the few cafes in the area where you can purchase a variety of wine with your dessert. While the food portion is just average at best, the cheap pricing point will have you ordering another sandwich next week. Starry Nites has a variety of cool game boards to play on, which can take that initial date up a notch when the other person doesnt seem to be doing a whole lot of talking. Starry Nites is also home to many local live bands that perform routinely. Google! Tip- make sure to ask about the Happy Hour, and the special $9.99 for a pound of coffee. Business is doing so well at Starry Nites that they have added an additional location right in the Downtown Public Library. As the theme of the place says, "Skinny People are Easier to Kidnap, go grab a Bon-Bon", couldnt have been closer to the truth. COFFEE: The University is one my favorite coffee combinations, and it represents the NOTA extremely well. This coffee is blended with a combination of vanilla, and peppermint flavoring. Some can say this is a coffee with a twist, and judging from the cliental here, no complaints. The Bishop is another amazing coffee flavor bomb, as this combination combines vanilla, cherry, and white chocolate. Have no fear, since these specialty drinks rotate on a daily basis, you can always ask for your favorites to still be made. COFFEE COCKTAIL: The Moose Crossing is simple, but tasty as it combines chocolate and Kahlua. This is a great coffee cocktail to have as well before that first initial meet and greet with someone, because no one but you will know there is Kahlua in your cup! WINE: they have a nice selection of California Red Wines which I enjoy, while there white wine selection is a little amateur at best. Go for the Cellar Number 8 merlot which has a nice spicy, med-bodied taste that goes down smoothly. Google! Tip- on cold winter days ask for their MULLED WINE, which is a special treat when available here. DESSERT: Starry Nites is home to the FAMOUS Peanut Butter Bon-Bons, and these chocolaty treats are so creamy and delicious. The chocolate is placed smoothly around the peanut butter center, and gives a nice snap when biting into it. You are definitely going to have chocolate face before you leave here!!! QUICHE: The quiche is amazing here, and another signature MUST-HAVE item to try. You can get these quiches in either a vegetable or meat form. I had a quiche that was filled with mushrooms, leeks, and spinach, topped with melted Swiss cheese. It passed the quiche test, as the fork cut right through the center like sliced bread. All the ingredients remained intact, as the melted Swiss cheese kept the quiche together. DAVINCHI DUO: Apparently Leonardo DaVinchi had a partner who also was also an artist, mums the word but I heard this duo represents the owners. Judging from a ton of rainbow flags outside the building, this is probably another right on assumption. The half-sandwich/soup combo was just average to me as the Chicken Salad had no seasonings mixed in, making it a little bland.

Now this is a nice little coffee cafe. Their latte quality is superb! Internet is slower than other places...other than that the lattes can run you up to near $6+ so make sure you ask about the punch out rewards card. The 10th coffee is free and then you can put the $6+ latte on the house lol. They DO usually have singers come in and sing coffee house music- it CAN get loud if your near the amps. (Its pretty small and noise has nowhere to go.) If your a college student looking to caffeinate and CRAM then bring earplugs. Nice cozy setting- I love this hole in the wall gem. One of the employees over the summer offered me some free coffee at the end of the night so it wouldnt go to waist- thats one reason I would go back again- something nice stood out about that barista since nobody other than Tim Horts has done that for me. This place seems to sport Vincent van Gogh art - named starrynites since it was his famous painting. A friendly/dreamy shop- the cozy couch you can sink 3 ft. down into- I will recommend anyday. The UPTON and The MEIGS are lattes to occassionally splurge on- an interesting conversation piece. Their toffee crunch & coconut coffee are to be treasured for a long time. Every 9th of the month you can buy their bags of coffee half off- so stock up while you can.

I have been a regular at "Starry Nights Cafe" for a Long time now, its a great little eclectic place. The coffee is good, and the food is very tasty. The staff works very hard to be attentive and give the best service they can. It is for the most part quite friendly, And Ive never gotten the "Service with a Snarl" like some of the other coffee shops here in Rochester ( Im looking at you Boulder on Alexander). I can understand the mixed reviews, yet I also understand that a lot of that depends on who is working in the cafe at any given time. At one point I stopped going to Starry Nights as frequently because of a rude person that once worked there, but Ill always give a place a second chance, and understand that things change.. Its still an excellent place to go. To be Honest, I did like the place a lot more back in the late 90s when it was "Moon Beans", back then it had a better feel, and always felt very welcoming.

I loved going to this shop when I lived across the street. Since moving, I dont find my way there too often, but I do enjoy it every time I go. The roasts are good and the pastries and baked goods they serve are very tasty and affordable. If there were one thing I wish this shop would change it would be their WiFi. It can be very temperamental and every so often I just give up and use my phone data. Word of caution: I have a nut allergy and Ive definitely ordered a non-nut pastry before and had a reaction from cross-contamination. I informed them of the issue and they seem to have made some adjustments, but I normally just steer clear and order a sandwich.

This Coffee shop is one of the better ones Ive found around Rochester. The staff are all friendly and accurate, I have only once had an order mistaken and it was immediately and respectfully fixed. The food and drink selection is good, they serve pastieries, several full meals, sandwiches, soups and sometimes pies or cakes. They have a wide variety of coffees and teas as well as seasonal mixes and some alcoholic drinks. The sell coffee beans by the pound and offer free wifi and board games. the decoration is warm and interesting, including a large mural blending two of Vincent Van Goghs works into a wall length landscape.
