When I wake up on a Sunday morning, only a few places come to mind for pancakes/French toast, and the South Wedge Diner is one of them. I love the traditional 1950s interior of the restaurant, always giving you that feeling that youre ready for the next sock hop. This Greek restaurant is probably the BEST place to go if you want signature homemade French Toast/Pancakes, and after one bite you will be returning for more. This diner is also the neighborhood go- to-spot for delicious morning Mimosas, and their FAMOUS flavored coffees. At one point during brunch, all you can hear is the clinging of Mimosa glasses everywhere, drink up mates! Service is always top notch, and I always get served extremely fast, even when I walk into a morning Sunday rush. The servers also are more lenient when it comes to substitutions, and the South Wedge Diner offers you many. I like that I can substitute a bowl of fruit, instead of home fries with my meal. Lets take a look at some of the best breakfast entrees we can find in the South Wedge. Banana Walnut French Toast- this is their signature FAMOUS entrée, and worth it because they use real Challah bread for the toast. This French toast is different than most thin pieces you see, as you are getting a hearty thick piece of toast. Stuffed inside are honey glazed walnuts with a dusting of cinnamon sugar throughout. This gets better, as bananas are freshly cut into circles and placed in-between each French toast layer. What sends this over the top is the South Wedge Diner is home to an awesome homemade maple syrup, better than most places I have been too. Strawberry Belgian Waffle- this is what I usually get when I come here, as this waffle is HUGE. I love that it always has a nice fluffy center in the middle of the waffle, with perfect browning around the edges. Again, they load these waffles up with freshly cut strawberry pieces. This waffle was topped with a white burgundy Chablis glaze, which made you want to sneak your fork in for another piece. Mixed Berry Stuffed Pancakes- DELICIOUS, as this diner knows how to make use of fresh fruit in innovative ways. These fluffy pancakes are stuffed with blackberries/and raspberries which flavor the dryness that pancakes usually have. They even add fresh slices of both fruits on top, with their signature white burgundy Chablis glaze. You can get this by itself or in a combo with 3 Eggs. Not a huge fan of the eggs here, as they tend to be thin in white yolk, and greasy. Safe bet it to just scramble your eggs at this location. Corned Beef Hash Side- a MUST, as most of the neighbors in the area can agree that this is the real deal. The corned beef is freshly shredded into pieces on your plate, and seasoned with the right amount of salt/pepper on top. These are homemade, as I can smell the corned beef cooking first thing in the morning when I am going for a walk. I also like the added use of onions in the hash to elevate its flavor more. Overall: FAMOUS French Toast/ Pancakes, Flavored Coffees, Bowls of Fruit, Banana Walnut French Toast, Mimosas, and the Mixed Berry Stuffed Pancakes...Of Course, I Will Be Back.

I just read all the google reviews and Id like to point out that each really low rating appears to have been handed out by folks who were trying the diner for the first time and happened to receive poor service. On the other hand, most of your high star ratings come from regulars who have made this diner part of their Rochester lives. So, that being said, Id like to draw a few conclusions: 1. The above makes perfect sense. Obviously, you arent going to get a low rating from someone who frequents the diner, unless theyre a masochist or some really lazy, carless, neighborhood dweller. The former, however, would enjoy poor food/service and the latter would be too lazy to write a review. So you can count them out of the pool of reviewers. Hence, ratings are going to be mathematically skewed bc of generally only getting these two types of raters. 2. The key would then be to lessen the number of single bad experiences. Poor service motivates people to give a scathing review far more frequently than mediocre food. 3. People with a single good experience rarely write a review. Its just a sad fact. All that being said, i have tried a limited number of menu items. Ive never had a bad breakfast sandwich, there. But i feel that Highland Diner has better benedicts, though in all fairness, i only tried the benedict at SW Diner once. I think the atmosphere is reasonably nice, the service variable, and that, generally speaking, you get what you pay for.

I did not know Tam had sold the Southwedge Diner. I had been a customer since it first opened under Tams ownership. Before that it was the usual cheap greasy bad diner food available at almost every other diner in town. I was impressed that he knew how to cook scrambled eggs that werent like rubber and he always used premium quality ingredients. It was the only place I had ever had my toast buttered from edge to edge like home. He used to have Asian and other specials daily, but abandoned preparing the few specialty dishes. Then he stopped cooking altogether. Thats when the quality started to slip. The last 2 times I was there, the menu had changed and I was happy to see the addition of an Asian menu selection of dishes. I wish Tam the best. He did a good job making the Southwedge a great place to eat. I hope it continues to be a great breakfast diner.

Tammy Ammi is GONE. The new guy looks (& cooks) like Cookie from Dagwood. Breakfast was THE WORST I HAVE EVER HAD SINCE Marks. Potatoes were DRY & TASTELESS. Bacon was SHAVED BARK FROM A TREE. Over easy eggs? They Spotted like the way my Grandmother used to make. I feel the waitresses arent too happy about it either. they know me there, but I got a, TO GO OR YEA GONNA EAT IT HERE? YOU WANT COFFEE? NOW I KNOW WHAT THEY MEANT BY "IT". My daughter and I really like to treat ourselfs to the Eggs Benni, but now are Totally Reluctant to try them. SAME HIGH PRICE, LOUSY PREPERATION, No Thanks. For a GREAT Breakfast go right down the street to PATS DINER. A Real Mom n Pop place. 4.09 cmpaired to 6.95 with Howards pleasent attitude and Itll never be as bad as Cookie cooks.NEVER!!

Went in for breakfast this past weekend, had a horrible experience. We got one coffee, asked for a second and she came to refill mine before receiving the second cup. We told her never mind, our order was taken, he asked for an omelette without mushrooms, it came with and the waitress said "oh you said something about mushrooms...." and hesitantly took it back to the kitchen. My eggs in a nest on the other hand was drowned in hollandaise and when I complained, the waitress told me I should have ordered it on the side, and then said yea, we put a lot on, again, no apology. It took 10 more minutes to get the check and for me not to leave a tip.
