Take all of this coming from a former employee of The SteamRoom. For starters, the place is infested with cockroaches. While watching other people ring customers up, Ive seen roaches frantically scurrying out of the card swiped and waiting on screen for the commotion to stop, to then run and hide back in the register. Ive seen roaches on the trays they use to give food out. Ive seen them behind the lemonade machine. In the bread bowl bin. Floating in the boiling water that keeps the soups warm. By the salad bar. On the beer taps. Where the utensils are. Literally everywhere. When I brought it up to the manager, she said "Theres nothing we can do about it except hire an exterminator. Which we have, and they just keep coming back." The managers are overly strict about what is and what is not allowed. No gum chewing, no neutral expressions (you must ALWAYS smile if there is anyone in the restaurant), arms are not allowed to be crossed, no standing still (ALWAYS find something to do, but god forbid youre in the middle of something and dont get to greet a customer), no applying chapstick, no fly-aways in girls hair, no talking amongst each other too loudly (and by too loudly, I mean anything above a gentle volume), no laughing. What are we, robots? And this is a direct quote from one of the managers "Call any of your guy friends so they can work here, all the managers receive a $100 bonus for each boy we hire." Um... That is absolutely bizarre, if you ask me. - A Former Employee

I always come here to get their seafood bisque in a breadbowl, it is very reasonably priced. This time I came with a few friends who ordered all different dishes. The breadbowl is always made for you right away and you can bring it straight to your table after you pay. Unfortunately I was fairly disappointed in my breadbowl this time around, the seafood bisque itself was really good but the breadbowl was not too hollow and there wasnt enough soup in it. Needless to say I still enjoyed the meal, I just wish there was more of it! Also, my friend ordered a white clam sauce dish which took a very long time to make. By the time his dish came, I had finished my meal even after stalling for quite some time. Overall, this experience will not stop me from going to the steamroom, I will hope for better for my next visit.

I only gave this restaurant one star because the food is not cooked properly and the manager Lois is clueless she has no business being a manager there my boyfriend found mold on his veggie burger we brought it up to the counter and showed her and she said what would you like me to do about it she asked if we wanted another veggie burger how can you offer us rotten food from a package a rotten food that made no sense she had a very bad attitude and that really spoiled our experience there the staff mention to us that it was not a nice place to work because of her thats a shame if it wasnt for having a nice outside patio I would not even give it the one star

I usually find myself coming here every now and then in the summer. The location and how open the place is makes it a perfect spot to stop for food. The marina is right across the street, and the restaurant can open the doors exposing most of the place to a cool breeze in the summer. The food is good, but not great, serving a variety of food items with an obvious focus on seafood. Look for their weekly deals to try and take advantage of discounted meals, and dont go here thinking youre in store for amazing seafood. Because it fulfills what I expect of it, a good quality seafood place to grab a quick meal, i recommend you try it.

It is always a treat coming to the Steam Room. I have been coming here for several years Now and am absolutely in love with their lobster. The price is fairly reasonable and the view of the harbor with the salt air sweeping over your face is truly exhillerating while enjoying a scrumptous meal. The staff is friendly and the food is tasty, what more could you ask for?!! I recommend all my family and friends head on down to the Steam Room for a great meal and great views. To my friends at the Steam Room, Ill be back soon for a pint and some delicious lobster. Cheers, Steve

Its a good place for a quick casual meal in Port Jeff. It has great views, as its right across from the ferry, at the beginning of Main St. It does need a decor do-over. As for the food, be prepared to have lots of greasy fried food, that has gone up in price, but down in portion size and quality. I still go there however, for their seafood bisque (lobster and clams) in a bread bowl, still very good, and one of the cheaper menu items at $7.50.

The Steam Room completes Port Jefferson. Its not a fancy place but their seafood is succulent. One can enjoy succulent whole lobster, steamers, mussels, clams, corn, soup, salad. Its the kind of place that you can kick back with a beer, dine, view the Long Island Sound and never feel rushed to leave. Whenever I have a business appointment on Long Island I try to stop off at the Steam Room. Elias N Sakalis

Decent fried seafood at reasonable prices right at the harbor, ordered and picked up at the counter (buzzers are handed out). Free parking in front. The lobster roll is the size of 1/2 hot dog and didnt look too interesting for its price. The drink prices are ok with $6-7 for sangria and premium draft beers (good selection with Goose Island etc). The bathrooms could benefit from some more regular checks.

Service was excellent. Little bit more money than I expected. I ordered the Calamari, was not crispy more on the soggy side. Jumbo Clam strip platter, more breading than Clam. Everything was very oily from the deep fryer guess my expectations were a little high. But the view was nice. My wife ordered the Seafood Paella and the New England Clam Chowder. She loved it.

A great spot that I wish was closer to home. Two of us had a dozen oysters on the half shell and a bucket of steamers. Both were fresh tasting and delicious. The counter service was fast even on a busy Saturday afternoon. I do wish the beer list was a bit more craft and local, but thats a common complaint of mine for most places. I would go again in a heartbeat.

This food was horrible omg I have never been so disappointed/ I have had many lobster rolls and these were small with cold lobster and that was it for 17$ with no fries. We also had the calamari the breading had no seasoning and it was so bland. I could go on and on about the disappointment because there were 9 of us but I think you got the point....

Amazing food, reasonable prices, with a beautiful location in the heart of Pt Jeff. I love to sit down, grab some Clam Chowder, Calamari and Lobsters and watch the Ferries leave for Connecticut. My suggestion is to check out the buy one, get one free specials. Theres a deal on crab legs, mussels, steamers and lobsters depending on the day you go.
