The worst experience at any restaurant. They Greet you with smile but are very unprofessional. I ordered Chana Bhatura, I being a north Indian know what it looks like and taste like. My friend ordered Puri Bhaji. We got the food and Bhatura was really BIG & THINK and chana were not cooked properly and the taste was very bad. I asked them to bring me something else as this was not good. I got Rava Masala Dosa - thinking ok this is south Indian restaurant at least this wont be as bad. to my surprise it was BAD the Aloo Masala had no Salt or Pepper..they were just boiled potatoes. The Coconut chutney tasted like it was old and had sour taste...The Sambhar tasted and looked like Rasam. So all in all it was BAD. Puri Bhaji was the same...same aloo with no salt or spices..1 puri was puffed - the other was FLAT. Not sure why anyone should be served a FLAT puri. If its not puffy,..dont serve it. Then they charged me at the end for Chana Bhatura and didnt even bother to Pack it. I was told since u didnt like it we garbaged it and you have to pay for it. WOW. I mean where and when was the last time this ever happened to anyone...Please TELL ME. Anyways...if you want to go thru such experience then by all means go there...I would stay away and recommend the same...YUCKKKK

Ive been to a large number of Indian restaurants in NYC and find the majority of them pretty underwhelming. Things are can get too salty or too hot to cover up the lack of genuine flavor or simply greasy and "homemade" to a fault. Samudra is quite balanced, and since Im not really a fan of meat anyway, has the sort of dishes I enjoy. So heres a review of some things: 1. Dosa: Ive tried a number of them here and theyre all pretty much good. Id recommend the classic dosa. They are all pretty large. 2. Dal: a nice light into to the rest of the menu. 3. Samosa: crisp, but like I said, not too greasy. Ive had better samosas over all but these simply leave me feeling a bit cleaner. 4. Mixed dishes: pretty nice and cheap, with the basmati rice dishes being my favorite. Good Indian, period, and great for those that wish for vegetarian options.

I came to Samudra with my bf for a quick stop to order chaat papdi to go as an item to bring to a friends house. Placed two orders ($6.50 each) and asked for them to not prepare them in advance (so the papdi wouldnt get soggy) and we were awkwardly informed that wasnt possible. Truly astonished once we received the chaats. Smallest serving sizes for such a hefty price! Completely embarrassing to bring over for group snacks, that we ended up eating it ourselves which was probably a mistake on its own -- while they are very generous with the amount of papdi, thats where your enjoyment ends. No potatoes, lack of dahi and general flavor altogether. You get SO much better bang for your buck at Usha Foods on Hillside and thus would likely not come here again

Guys dont go to this restaurant. Samundra food taste n quality is cheap n no good taste. Last week I went to samundra restaurant with my wife n the owner is super cheap n horrible the owner never pays tips to their server n the owner of samundra keeps n steals their employees tips. Such a cheap n horrible owner I ever seen. This is unfair with the servers. Even the owner asks all the customers to post good review online about their restaurant. Which this is kind of begging. The restaurant owner is beggar steals servers tips n even begs to write good review about their restaurant. Hahahahahaha what a joke. This is kind of cheap. Their service, food quality is disaster. I will Never ever go. Owner steals tips n dont pay their employee. Horrible owner.

Goodness who gives this place 4+ stars? We went following the stars in the reviews and realized most of their customers are folks very new to S. Indian cuisine! Their vadas had too much soda added giving a bloated feeling after, the dosas were dry, cold and lacking salt, sambaar had sugar that stood out ( sambaar shouldnt have sugar in first place) - lowest quality S. Indian fare we had ever tasted. The service was also extremely slow. Poor service as the servers were unfamiliar with customer needs. They might just want to take off wine service. We made the mistake of ordering a glass and the wine was flat. Appears that it had been sitting there for days and the severs were not familiar with how to store wine or serve it.

I just moved to Jackson Heights and my neighbor recommended this restaurant one block from my apartment. The restaurant was very clean and the waitress friendly. We ordered a vegetable dish and samosa for appetizer with a beer. I was shocked when I bit into a small stainless steel SCREW in one of the samosas. I notified the owner and he took the screw into the kitchen. He returned a few minutes later and said it did not come from his kitchen. We asked for our check. The owner made no attempt to remove the samosas from the check. I would have given 4 stars if he had been more accommodating. His attitude was poor toward the customer!

We tried the onion pakoras and vegetable uttappam. Both were pretty good and quite reasonably priced. The uttappam was very colourful and reminded me of uttappams from home. The pakoras came with a green chutney and tamarind chutney while the vegetable uttappam came with sambar, coconut chutney and an orange chutney that I think was a caramelized-onion chutney. The green, tamarind and coconut chutney were delicious. The sambar was good and the orange chutney was kind of bland. Overall, a pretty good South Indian restaurant. Will need to return to review the other items on the menu.

I been to this restaurant for more than 10 times with my family and I have observed the owner behavior toward the worker was so pathetic especially when there is only few people .yesterday I step in to use the restroom and he didnt let me even I am his regular customer. Generally i am not in habit of writing review but I have to write this today cuz the owner is such a cheap ass and he dont even have consideration toward regular customer... plus the server dont get tip , ask server privately and they will tell you the truth...

We had peeked in the windows before and people nearby would say how good it was. The family opted for vegetarian because our one vegetarian always has to make due at other places. We were all pleased with the entire six meals purchased and didnt miss the meat at all. The restaurant was pleasant and the staff excellent. This is a review I hesitate to make since I dont want to have our new find inundated where we cant get a seat. They deserve their business since they do it so well.

I wish I could say that I loved it. The service was slow, although the staffs were very sweet and friendly. The food was ok and the portions was not as much as other Indian restaurants around here. The potato filling in my masala dosa was about half of the usual portion size. However, their dosas (masala dosa and Pondicherry dosa) tasted pretty good. My friends who had their alu paratha said it was very bland. We also had an appetizer made of potatoes (not samosa) which was delicious.
