This was my second time here. First time I did the Hibachi. It was fun, entertaining, but a little pricey (about 20-30 dollars a person), Second time went we just did the dining. Went on a Friday night at 6pm with no reservations and got right in. Decor is amazing and they decorate for the season. Very welcoming environment and people are really nice. We even got "hot towels" to wipe our hands. That was new for me. They have pretty big menu and saw nothing kid friendly, but the prices are really reasonable. We got the fried calamari - absolutely amazing. I am a big see food eater and love Asian inspired dishes, and this was by far the best fried calamari Ive ever had. For dinner I got the Tiger Roll and once again, the best sushi I have ever had. My wife got fried rice and it was also great. It was very fast too, didnt take more than fifteen minutes. Even after all that, with great food, the bill only came to $30 which is great for two people at a nice place. I will be going back more often to dine-in eating.

Who doesnt love hibachi? The staff here are warm, welcoming, and attentive during your meal. Ive had both hibachi service and traditional sit-down dining multiple times. The hibachi is well prepared with the usual fanfare, and portions are tremendous. Traditional dining is also excellent, with good sushi and tasty traditional Japanese fare. The atmosphere is very attractive with a well decorated, quiet main dining area, private rooms (both hibachi and regular) and a separated group dining area.

Atmosphere was good but the sushi and sushi rolls were horrible. At no point was I worried about quality, but the food simply wasnt quality. Half of the rolls seems like they were blended before being rolled. In addition, the King Krab sushi we had tasted like it was from a can - not fresh at all. I didnt want to finish it. As a side note to the business, in addition to the above, if youre a company in a nice college town with a multitude of brewery options...have some in draft.

we had a large party at Sumo this past Friday. The food was very good but the service was something else. We were seated directly across from the cart for dirty dishes. The noise of the servers throwing the dishes in or on the cart was deafening. Plus when they missed the cart and liquid spills were all over the wall and on the floor. Our bill topped over 300.00 I did complain to the hostess and she simply said Ill pass this on. Poorly handled.

The sushi is some of the best in Ithaca. The place is rather loud when it is close to busy. The hibachi is really good, and, like most hibachi places, entertaining. The service is spotty. Order water right off the bat, if you want it. Maybe look concerned or parched often to get more. Overall, Id go here to remind myself what sushi tastes like, but Im prepared for the endeavor to take over an hour.

Honestly one of the best sushi places Ive been. And Ive been to a lot... all throughout the US and abroad. Great interior setup and modern appeal. The dishes are great and they definitely dont skimp on the rolls. Great portion size and packed with delicious seafood and other ingredients with their fusion sushi rolls. We ordered more dishes than our belly could handle... But well be back to try more!

Almost always good. Service was a bit slow when we had a large party here for lunch, but usually I come alone and sit at the bar where service is always excellent. Tofu is readily available, and other than cream cheese in the sushi I havent seen any dairy in the menu, so it isnt too difficult to make at least some of the dishes vegetarian.

We have eaten here every time we come to Ithaca. About 4 times and the worst meal was good! The Sushi, Sashimi is always good. Fresh and not days old. The service is always polite, professional and friendly. Prices are fair, not cheap but fair. You want cheap you get what you pay for! I recommend Sumo if up in Ithaca.

Visiting from out of town. The restaurant was clean and modern decorated in a contemporary / Asian style. Staff was pleasant. Lets face it hibachi is hibachi but, they can be a hit or miss. The food was flavorful and the portions perfect. I recommend this restaurant.

This is an amazing hidden gem in ithaca. walk through the doors and youre transported to japan, with faux stone walls, and elegant woodwoork. The food was great, the portions were awesome, and they have alcohol, unlike other chinese/asian places in Ithaca. 5 stars :)

We love Sumo, they are the best sushi place weve been to in Ithaca when you take into consideration food, service, and atmosphere. They have a good mix of hibachi, party rooms, and quieter sushi bar and regular bar (with TV) seating. Great staff and excellent food.

Acceptable quality fish. Didnt try the hibachi yet but the part of the show I saw looked fun. Huge place, almost too big. Beef negamaki was really good. Gyoza was a bit over done. Approachable sushi chefs. Other servers were good as well.

Eddie is the best , as is all of the sushi bar staff. Always fresh and amazing experience. We get to go about once a month and would not trade sumo for the best in NYC. Thank you for always the best food in town.

If you want a good value, go for lunch, far cheaper. By far the best place to get sushi in/around Ithaca. Everything else I have had was delicious too. Recommend for almost any occasion.

Great atmosphere and only unique habachi restaurant in Ithaca. However, very limited portions given if you are doing habachi. Would definetly like more rice and protein for price paid.

Tempura was melt in your mouth, the Spider Maki was the best I ever had. The miso soup was dead on and delicious. The help was incredibly friendly, the prices not at all unreasonable.

The place is amazing and the sushi is awesome. The reason for giving three stars to this place in my rating is the horribly bad service in the dining area.
