In an area flooded by sushi restaurants its difficult to stand out but Takumi manages to do just that. The food is always spectacular and much closer to authentic Japanese food than some of the restaurants being run by Korean or Chinese owners. The husband and wife team of Yuki and Kyumi make a great pair. Yuki has over twenty five years of experience behind the bar while Kyumi tends the floor. They are warm, and friendly with everyone who comes in maintaining first name basis relationship with most customers. They are now offering a sake flight for thirty bucks which is a great deal. Highly recommend that and Yukis pizza. Only drawback for this place is its absolutely awful location. Once found though youll have a hard time going to one of the other ten thousand sushi places.

Service was excellent, sake was good, sushi was average... way, way too much reliance on the surimi based crabstick and sauces to spice things up. Would love to see real crab because they have a few rolls that would go from "meh" to "hot damn!" real quick if they just made the switch. I do want to note that the udon based dish I had with steak (honestly cannot remember the name and I do apologize) was delicious. That and the service kept this from two stars. Why the harsh grading? Because sushi restaurants that dont use real crab should know better. In truth, though, they deserve 3.5 stars so please consider this review just that: 3.5 stars out of five. Great people, decent food... you wont regret it but it wont necessarily shout loudly when youre listening for a place to go.

I dont know where these raving reviews are coming from! Went there and first bad sign was that the place was empty. OK well, Im adventuresome. Quickly found out why. It is the WORST sushi I have ever had. We had sushi for 2 and it was bland and tasteless. Only one way to know if this review is true, compared to the raves, but well never go back. Take another 5 minutes and drive to Kotobuki. A little more money but outstanding. Evidenced by the line out the door.

Best Sushi on Long Island. We used to go to the other places in the area like Nisen, Izumi, Aki, etc....but none of those places can match the great flavor and authenticity of great sushi and Japanese cuisine. The owners are great people, Chef Yukis sushi always has fresh clean favors, and their specials are amazing works of art. My advise is to let the chef choose for you, try the omakase and Takumi for two! You wont be disappointed.

Best Japanese restaurant, even superior to those in Manhattan and even Tokyo. Its not that big just like other Japanese restaurants nearby, but I do love family-like atmosphere and service. I usually have donburi, and I can see they have their own home-made true Japanese miso soup and other sauce, which makes this place the best. (Believe it or not, most other non-Japanese owned Japanese restaurants use instant miso soup..... )

This is my favorite Sushi Restaurant of all time. Chef Yuki is an artist with many of his own personal dish creations that delight the taste. His Sushi Pizza is our favorite appetizer. Many times we never look at the menu and just ask him to surprise us and we are always delighted beyond belief with what he comes up with. His drink specials are just the same. Do not miss this special restaurant.

Authentic Japanese food and great service. This is some of the best food Ive had outside of my moms cooking. From the miso soup all the way to the desert everything is excellent. Japanese food made by Japanese people served with a smile. The owners Yuki and Kiyomi have something really special happening at Takumi, if you love Japanese food you owe it to yourself to try it out.

Yukis sushi is always top notch. I have eaten sushi in many top Long Island, and Manhattan Sushi places and this stands out as one of the best! You can always tell when a sushi place is good by the amount of Japanese customers there are. I just wish I could eat there more often!!

So today I was able to come to Takumi and they had Ramen on the menu. From what Ive been told its generally only on Tuesdays and Fridays for lunch. Excellent. Flavors were rich, bowl was filling, will absolutely be back. Not to mention they have amazing sushi as well!

By far the BEST sushi anywhere. First class, authentic chef. ALWAYS fresh, never frozen. Yuki and family eager to explain the subtleties of combinations, flavors, sauces, and varieties. Go once and you are family. Youll see!

Ordered 2 rolls for pickup, what usually costs 10-12$ came out to over 16$ and the sushi itself was not good at all, overpriced and bland.
