Business Travelers review is unfortunately very similar to mine. I ordered a sushi combination dinner from their website menu and asked if the sushi could be Tuna, and they told me yes. I arrived, picked up my order and brought it home to eat and saw they gave me Salmon instead of Tuna! I called and asked if I could come back in 15 minutes and switch for the correct sushi (didnt want the rest of my dinner to get cold), and the manager (Teresa) sounded very confused and said yes. 10 minutes later I called her back and explained I couldnt return and would like to be refunded for the sushi. Teresa immediately denied it and started blaming me for wanting to "substitute" Tuna for Salmon, which they dont allow. Their websites menu does indicate no substitution, but NOT WHAT SUSHI YOU GET, this is why I asked if I could have Tuna with it! I wouldnt have ordered it otherwise! Teresa immediately apologized and explained that it was "only their fault because" they couldnt understand "me." This doesnt fix the problem though. Although I asked to be refunded only the $5 difference between the chicken teriyaki dinner and the combination dinner with sushi, she refused and made me talk to one of her employees who told me the same story. Its a shame. I was a loyal customer for years and rarely had problems. Unfortunately, this is the final straw. I HIGHLY recommend going to either Meadows in Simsbury or wait until the Whole Foods opens in Avon for better quality sushi (at a cheaper price!!)

Worst take out experience Ive ever had! The other day I decided to try Toshi. I had heard relatively good things about it and since it was Zagat rated I figured how bad could it be? Well I couldnt have been more wrong! When I walked in there was a woman at the counter who completely ignored me. I picked up a menu and once i was ready to order I tried to get her attention and she walked away. Didnt even look at me! Then after 10 minutes another woman (who looked completely disheveled) came down from the kitchen asking me "what i wanted" I began to read off my order and she messed it up 3 times. Then she told me 15minutes so I stepped outside. I came back in 20 minutes and she said they were just making it now! After 30 minutes my food was ready but missing the edamame. I asked her about it and she forgot to tell the kitchen! So i had to wait another 5 minutes. I dont mind waiting for good food, but when i got home, the sushi was sub par, the edamame was cold and my $8 veggie roll was disgusting! The rice paper was mushy and it was filled with mostly rice. Do yourself a favor, drive the extra 7 minutes and go to Feng. This place is horrible!

Quick and friendly staff. Ordered food and it came out within 10 minutes! My husband and I ordered the teriyaki chicken bento boxes with the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. We also ordered the spring roll appetizers. The appetizer comes with 2 piping hot spring rolls and a sweet chili sauce. I had to cut my roll in half to let it cool. Off but they tasted great. The bento boxes come with a small bowl of miso soup, and the box itself has perfect sized portions of noodles, rice (opt for brown rice for additional $1), salad, your chosen sushi and a nice chicken filet with a few pieces of broccoli and onion below. The only let down was the sushi. It was very basic but it still tasted okay. We were also able to request spicy mayo. The prices were spot on (10.50 for the bento) for what we got and the service rendered. Would definitely recommend based on prices and menu selection. Would be just fine for groups, dates, or family.

I go here all the time - Im half Japanese and from LA where there are plenty of sushi restaurants - and this is my favorite in Farmington Valley. The fish is fresh, neither I nor my husband have ever gotten sick from it (my husband is not Japanese and is an Avon-native), and its home to our favorite roll: the Bamboo roll. Someone below recommended Meadow for "real sushi lovers." I would never do so - the fish is much lower quality cuts, meaning it is less tasty with a chewier/more rubbery texture. Toshi uses very decent cuts, and Ive never felt that their sushi was "inedible" like I did at Meadow (although I do really like other items on Meadows menu. Just not their Japanese food). Their remodel is also fantastic, and its now under ownership by their head sushi chef, so thats a plus.

Its okay for being where it is: out and away from a city where, conceivably, theres more traffic. Had the sashimi dinner and a couple of single sashimi plates. The tuna was particularly good, the others were just ok. The ikura tasted a wee bit too sweet for my palate, but it was passable. That being said, it is pricey for being out here. Granted, the place is very nice and if you want to impress a date, or a client, this will do just fine. Otherwise, there may be cheaper alternatives out there in the area.

Not awful, but still embarassing. Five years ago, I took family and friends and business partners to Toshi, and we had good food and attentive service at the bar or at a table - smart, quick, clean. In the last year, especially the last few months, Toshi has become a depressing place, with novice staff, sloooow service, and where customers are tolerated, not served. The food is all right, but the experience of getting to your table isnt worth the trip to Toshis any more.

It was rated 1 of the best places in farmington valley, When my husband arrived home with our take out I asked him where is the rest of our food. Very disappointed, I was also charged for items I didnt receive, I did call but never received the refund. My friends if you like sushi and if you know good sushi I only recommend Meadow in Simsbury.

My daughter got sick from the sushi - waitress was on another planet. We were waiting for our third person at one point the waitress asked if they had arrived when clearly nothing had moved - maybe she thought she was hiding under the table - several wrong items delivered - my category - NEVER AGAIN - live and learn at your own risk

Ive been going to this place for years and I think they have the freshest tasting fish in the area! The miso soup is amazing and their ginger salad dressing is the best dressing at any Japanese place Ive ever been to! Their lunch sushi special is a great deal and their bento boxes are delicious.

Looks like a great deal, but very high rice to fish ratio in their rolls. Also the white tuna seem a little bad, Im not sure if it was that fresh! They charged 20% gratuity for large party, and one waitress in particular was a pain (almost like we were inconveniencing her)..
