as we browsed through the Russian restaurant options in Brighton Beach, we made our decision on this small restaurant on Brighton Beach Avenue. They didnt look flashy, and had no obnoxious "only for tourists" vibe (expensive bad food) to it. We didnt want to go to a tourists spot, but where actual locals (Russians, Ukrainians, etc.) would go and eat. This place looked just right. The price might seem a bit high, if you dont know how much food you are getting. It was rather large portion on a large plate, you can see the size in the photo here. Pretty big, right? But it was so tasty that we finished the dish without effort. It also had pickled veggies as well, which was nice pallet cleanser. I heard they serve really great desserts also, but we were very full after our meal. So, we decided to get coffee and tea without dessert. The cappuccino came in a nice glass mug and sugar stirring stick! The tea came in the traditional tea glass holders, which was amazing!!! I loved the traditional look, and it came with tea bag (I asked for Earl Grey), lemon slices, and preserves. Perfect way to end the meal. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience. The waiters were very nice, didnt speak perfect English which added to our "Russian experience." They were super polite, and provided efficient, fast service. One of my coworkers studied abroad in Russia for a year for a masters program and has since fallen in love with Russian food. He convinced me to try out Oceanview Cafe for its authentic fare. Im not typically a fan of ethnic cuisine thats outside the realm of Italian or Mexican, but this food (at least when I went for dinner) was really good! The service from the waitress was prompt. I was hungry when I went so I appreciated the quick service. I couldnt decide what to get on the menu since Im not familiar with Russian food. The waitress was very helpful and pointed out her favorites, which I ordered: a blini filled with meat, the borscht, and sauerkraut. I felt the portion sizes were very generous, and the waitress also brought out the food quickly; she stopped by to ask how I was doing without being annoying and intrusive about it. Prices were also really reasonable. I left paying less than I thought I would.

Я был там несколько раз, мне и моим товарищам понравилось! Планирую на следующей неделе поужинать там с другом снова, куда принесу ему только что полученные его новые визитные карточки. Цены в этом кафе - невысокие! One of the most famous New York City taxi drivers Oleg Roitman, a.k.a. The Human-Computer. If you tell me any date (month, day, year), for example the date of your birth - in less than a second I will tell you on which day of the week you were born (Monday, Tuesday, etc.). I calculate in my head extremely quickly - yes, yes, I am a genius!.. I have been featured in the New York Times, ABC television and on NPR radio. These and other media appearances are available on my web site at www.the-human-computer.us

A popular local restaurant serving Russian food for the Russian community. Lots of families come here due to their comfort foods and generous portions. Even though the place appears tiny, they like to overstaff their waitstaff to get the customer service bonus. Theres a screen on the side wall that displays their menu items so you can get a picture of the items before ordering if you dont have a phone on you. I enjoyed the borscht, "onion soup", and dumplings. Their cherry fruit juice drink was also refreshing. Credit cards accepted.

One of my favorite place to stop in Brighton Beach! The fried potatoes with mushrooms are excellent. The vareniki and pelmeni are delicious- you can even buy a bag of frozen ones to take home and make yourself. I always treat myself to a glass of cherry compote. Everything tastes delicious and is a wonderful reminder of a Russian childhood. The service can be slow- you need to be proactive about getting your cheque- but its all worth it. Yum!

The food is so good here. I especially loved the beef skewers with French fries. The French fries were outstanding—like fresh McDonalds fries, but homemade. I also enjoyed the eggplant salad; it seems to be a Russian staple, so I always eat it when Im in this part of town, and this place has the best one Ive had. Really great food, friendly and professional service. Oh... least I forget the desserts. The Tiramisu was velvety and delicious.

Еда великолепная, обслуживание превосходное я была очень довольна этим местом! Там можно посидеть в тишине, где музыка не орет так что не слышно партнера . (Сама являюсь шеф-поваром )

I was having a nice dessert and it was fine. But I saw a cat coming out the kitchen. It was really disgusting. For health and food manipulation policies pets are not allowed in comercial kitchen. They included the tip in the bill and its supposed to be volunteer. The coffee was really bad and was brought late. I would not come back.

Really nice staff, everyone is smiling and the service is great. The food is delicious and always fresh. The best thing on the menu for my choice is oceanview salad which is always fresh therefore really good and golupci which is meat inside the cabbage leaf with sour cream! Really yummy

I went to the kitchen there and saw how the cooks mistakenly put open to go box with food to the garbage and then get it back from that garbage and gave it to the customers that is beyond imaginable

I wish there were negative review options for this dump. It took almost three hours to make it through this lunch. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Horrible service and ok food.

The rudest most insulting treatment of customer possible, by a waiter claiming to be the owner. If youre looking for the authentic Russian insulting treatment, this is the perfect place.

Fantastic Russian specialties and the friendliest staff in Brighton Beach. Off the Boardwalk, but not by much, and well worth the short walk.

My wife almost died from food poisoning after she had tried their chicken blinchiki. Soviet mentality cannot be cured.
