Having spent most of the last three decades on the west side of Binghamton, I had written off the place when it was "Whats your Beef". Times, it appear, change. New owners, new name, entirely different experience. Recently, I took my girlfriend to The Beef (at her insistence) for her birthday. On a Wednesday night. Terry and Tom provided musical entertainment, with Terry on the keyboard and Tom providing vocals. Frank Sinatra, Etta James, and other classics were the mainstay of their repertoire. I danced with a beautiful girl for the first time in years, and enjoyed myself immensely. The food? Sublime. Transcendent. Between the two of us, my girl and I have 45 years in the restaurant business. It was easily the best meal weve had in years. I had the Filet Mignon with bearnaise, and she had the Rosemary Chicken. Nobody rushed us. The waitress whose name escapes me, is a college student who waits tables a couple days a week and tends bar on Saturday. She truly made us feel welcome, while still being prompt and professional. It was a good enough evening that I made reservations for Valentines day three weeks in advance a few days later. That experience was easily the match of the first. It was as good as the first meal from the first bacon wrapped scallop to the last bite of my steak. There is absolutely no doubt that it is now "our place".

5 stars? Give me a break... Have you ever been to >any< Keg or Outback? This place is firmly sub average. My take: A dumpy old converted house rustically decorated (on a budget) to resemble a dumpy old house (doesnt work for me... it still smells like an old house), salad and bread were fine... terse but passably polite service, (forgot my second beer), I ordered the house specialty: prime rib... with house potatoes. Small plain white plate #1 had 7 slices of unseasoned roasted potato, with little plastic cup of sour cream, small white plate #2 had (generous) chunk of unseasoned cooked meat, floating in 1/16" of water (juice). That was all they brought. I dont know how someone could call this a five star restaurant. Its maybe two, not five. Get out more so you know what youre talking about.

The Beef is where you go to get beef in Binghamton. If you like your meat cooked as it should be, this is the place to go. The bar area has a very comfortable atmosphere, with all the Irish staples on tap. The dining room is looking very nice since the upgrade last year, with some beautiful pictures of Binghamton on the walls. Keep in mind, the menu is somewhat limited due to their dedication to beef, but there are a few decent alternatives. Another thing to note is that there is a pub-style menu with a few sandwiches, and a GREAT burger (ask for Blue Cheese on it) that would accommodate a smaller appetite.

Their website is outdated as each menu item is $3-4 more expensive. Since the place is called "The Beef" I ordered a delmonico steak medium-medium rare. I received a well done steak which was tough and dry and for a price of $20+ I expected more. The waitress only came to our table twice to fill our water and bring our food. At this price, the service needs to be better. The dining room was dark, dimmy, and wasnt very quiet (as it is next to the bar) and it was difficult to carry on a conversation. Overall, I left the place hungry and will not return. Texas Roadhouse and Outback are better choices.

Even though in the menu it said that soup and one side was included in the dinners, we were charged extra for them. When asked about this, the waitress told us that the restaurant just overcharges some things. Not only that, we were treated horribly, the waitresses literally threw our drinks and bread to the table. Maybe if you are a regular customer, they treat you like a human being, but otherwise do not come to this place. Even the food is subpar ( if you can call unseasoned supermarket meat swimming in blood food), nevermind the horrendous service

My husband and I had our anniversary dinner date at The Beef. The fillet with Bearnaise sauce was superb! Cut and cooked to perfection. My husband said the same for his piece of meat. We had drinks, full dinner, coffee with dessert (homemade mounds chocolate cake by the way) and we were amazed when our bill was less than $90.

This place has got an old world vibe and its a cozy place to catch a drink. The bar section vibe is warm, and the bartender service is friendly, prompt and attentive. Because it isnt such a large restaurant, it could sometimes get a bit overcrowded on peak nights. Overall, a good local spot to hit on low key days and evenings.

Great little hole in the wall place where you can get a great steak at a decent price. Half pub, half sit down restaurant, you could come here with a small group of friends or on a date and its fine for either. The only pre-requisite is liking steak.

Top notch everything! Romantic dinners in the restaurant or casual drinking with friends at the separate bar this place offers it all. A favorite of the locals and those who know. The food and wine is choice.

Had a wonderful dinner evening with good friends. The Beef has been a staple in our dining ventures for over 30 years and is still one of the most wonderful places to dine and reconnect with vold friends.
