Our family visited on a Monday evening after a day at Island Beach State Park. Had been at the old Bum Rogers a number of years ago and was very unimpressed at that time with everything about it. We then became regulars at the Berkeley Seafood Restaurant which is now gone. So we tried Bums again. This time much was better. It is still a loud bar/pub like atmosphere but the greeter was friendly and the wait time was not too bad although it was a Monday. The interior is small for seating but it definitely looks airier and more inviting post Sandy when it was revamped. The food entrees we had were good. I had the garlic crabs and my son and wife had the roast beef special. Veggies however are one choice, a red skinned potato and a small piece of a corn on the cob which wasnt all that great. There are no free appetizers such as a salad or bread offered. Prices are fairly typical and in line for the shore and the fact this is not a high end restaurant. Service was fairly quick but perfunctory and while the owner checked on us as to how our dinner was immediately after we were served, we had not yet had a chance to eat and were realizing we had not been provided with any forks. The waiter however never checked back with us and earlier while waiting for our dinner had to be reminded to get our drinks. All and all it was okay. We probably will not go back as I can only imagine how long it would take to get in that small place on a weekend when we are normally visiting Island Beach SP and we just were really not all that impressed.

Horrible. Remember what it was like 10 years ago? Yep. still there, and the staff aged with the place. Priced like the Atlantic Grill. I would call dinner barely edible - and they reopened yesterday - but of course were already out of a handful of basic things...most of the stuff on the lengthy,16 point font, 8.5x11, mostly bare menu. BUM Rogers is unfortunately still not good for anything beyond a domestic bottled beer - and even then, Id double check the date and whether or not the glass was chipped. I heard that someone else took over, and I really really REALLY wanted this to magically turn into a decent restaurant - but alas, memories of finding flies in my crabs returned when I looked at my really crappy meal and my companions jar sauced, frozen food $18 entrees. My waitress, had one other table I think - she was overly chatty (in the wrong way) and I couldnt help but focus on her lose hairs stuck to the back of her shirt, fearing I would find one in my meal. I watched her bs with the other staff while we waited ten minutes to even be offered drinks in an otherwise empty and desolate room. Oh, and all the maintenance crap (spray paint, tools. etc) from this "Grand ReOpening" they had sprawled out on another table next to us really cinched the experience. Why cant a decent restaurant anchor IBSP? Please kill this dying, rotting horse already. I shudder to think of the health codes violated and what I may have eaten today.

Waited 15 minutes to get a drink. Then ordered dinner at the bar. Took 30 minutes to get appetizers. Then sat around for another 45 minutes only to find out that our main entree order was never put in (after we had to ask). Bartender then tries to place the blame on us vs just admitting that she screwed up. Your kidding me right? You take my order, then dont bring me my food and it is my fault somehow? Rather than making up for their mistake by getting me my dinner - that I ordered - they offer a free beer or a desert. What a joke. 10:00 on Monday night and they leave you high and dry to fend on your own to get food elsewhere. Obviously the service is terrible - they expand the place and clearly cant keep up with the demand from the crowds. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else to eat and save yourself the frustration. You will end up waiting an hour for a table, then an hour to find out you wont even get the meal you ordered. Who needs that at the beach? Bums obviously could care less about their patronage - all they want is your cash. They figure that they are the only place in that area, so they will treat you like crap

On a Sunday afternoon the place is not too busy but there is still no one to seat us, and when they do notice us looking for a table we are then seated and wait, and I mean wait, for a waitress. Every minute I sat and waited for a drink, an app, an entrée, it was noticed. A refill on a drink, forever, a piece of bread (asked three times) was told its 2.99 extra and "being warmed"...(it was in a microwave) and then no butter. Can we have butter? Yes! WAIT WAIT WAIT, breads all gone wheres the butter. How about a fresh salad on a hot plate rather than a cool one? Try to ask for something special, like changing the cheese out on your salad, and the salad comes with no cheese. Overall, the food was poor quality, and the service was impossibly slow. I wont be trying them out again unless Im going there to drink. From what we here the bar is just as slow and just as cheep. Save your money too because prices are not all that good as well.

While the location is great and includes an outdoor dining area, the food left a lot to be desired. After sketchy drink service at the bar, we ordered food. (I felt like my husband and I crashed a party we werent invited to.) The appetizer came out with the meal. The motivation to write this review comes from the Fish Tacos. They were $16.99 to have "blackened" Ahi. I really wished I took a picture. There were pan fried seasoned chunks of tuna (overcooked) with a huge amount of mayo dressing. I searched for the coleslaw it was supposedly topped with. The chips had a side of Thai dressing, not salsa. I dont mind spending the money, but when the product is thrown together like this, at least match the meal with the price point.

We wanted to eat inside they said 45 minute wait but there was no wait for eating outside . When we came in there was maybe 5 other tables seated. The waiters forgot our appetizer and by the time it came out we were already to just eat. Another table was seated after us and was a bigger party and they got their food before us , after about 45 minutes and still no food we just got up and left . We couldnt wait for the food no more after seeing others table getting their food before us after they seated after us i was done. I dont know if it was our waitress or the kitchen. But we got 2 appetizers and 4 soft drinks and was still 50 dollars ? They did give us a 25 gift card but i would never go back so the gift card is pointless
