I did both a take out and a sit down meal. As an out-of-stater - let me say, I found the place charming, because the owner was so very much the classic New Jersey business owner. The kind you see on TV but dont really expect everyone in NJ to be. He was and it was great. For the take out, I had a platter of various shellfish and fish. One thing I really liked on their menu was the variety in the choice of sides, stewed tomatoes! and a few others, I have not seen in many fine restaurants. Everything was delicious. I went back a week later and sat down for a meal. The waitress was cute and sweet and good. We talked about dessert and how I should try Grandmas specialty, because she was from Greece herself - and made this herself. I had catfish, and WOW! the last time I had catfish that good was when I still lived in Illinois - along the Illinois river - the bars there sell the best catfish sandwiches. Good because it was fresh caught, lightly covered in a cornbreading, and deep fried in fresh oil (none of that old crap). This was much the same. I felt like crying it was so good. I talk to the owner who told me that the catfish had been brought in only 4 hours before - I guess its true - fresh is really distinctive and delicious. I would highly recommend this place - if you love fish, good cooking and a casual atmosphere!

Calamari was basically breaded rubber bands. Tables smelt like mildew from being wiped down with damp rags. Mozzarella sticks tasted like cinnamon? After waiting a total of an hour and 15 minutes i was presented with someone elses plate while the rest of my table got nothing. Waiter came back just as i was about to eat to tell me that wasnt mine. When he came back with mine it was missing the pasta. He told me i have to tell him i want it even though he never asked me or showed me on the menu. Strip steak was actually a prime rib that was extremely tough and flavourless(freezer burnt). Chicken was overcooked and dried out. When telling the waiter his response was i didnt cook the food so its not my fault. Worst part is they dont have working A/C so all your doing is sweating while you eat and it makes the fishy smell become overwhelming. Overall the meal was completely disgusting and a waste of money. Wouldnt recommend this place to someone i hated

I have been going to Shrimp King for over 24 years. I grew up at the shore, and appreciate good seafood, and this place is the best. Dont let the "not too fancy decor fool you, as the food is always fresh and beautifully prepared." Also, having a party and needing shrimp? Shrimp King always comes through with the best regardless of the high demand for shrimp over the holidays. A must stop for seafood lovers!! Dr. Jon Cosse

Because they dont have a handicapped ramp we couldnt have a nice meal. We even called ahead of time to make reservations and told them we had one with a wheelchair. Not once did anyone say we cant accommodate a wheelchair. They even told us they havent had a problem in over 40 years. We wont be back, we also will make it know to others what they said .

I was disappointed. The Yelp reviews were really good, but the food didnt live up. The calamari was extremely greasy and had no seasoning, and the fried clans tasted like they were frozen vs fresh. If this was a diner, it would have been a better rating as that is the quality I would have expected, but this is a seafood market!!!... come on...

I go into the store, yes its Christmas Eve I understand that. All I ordered was a Doz littleneck clams and a pound of shrimp. I get home open the little brown bag that they put the clams in and there were only 10... WTF! think they would at least hire somebody that can count to 12....nuff said.

I have been going to Shrimp King for over 25 years. It is my go stop on my drive from CT to the beach in Delaware. My favorite is the fried shrimp sandwich on a hard roll and fries. The food is always fresh and it is a friendly family owned restaurant. We love shrimp king! Bruce CT

If you have alot of patience for a seafood pasta that has no taste and takes a long time with limited bread bowls to hold you over then this is your place. This place has 2 left feet. O the Horror. I felt like i was in an old friday the 13 movie with thrsencery.

We came because the owner isnt afraid to respond to criticism. Decor was interesting. The random movie posters left me a bit perplexed but were still pretty sweet. Food was good and my co workers and i all enjoyed the expirience very much. Thank you

Very good fish food at a very good price, surprisingly quite yet busy on a Friday night in lent. I will be back. Took off a star because it was hot, and my soda was flat and server stated they knew and were fixing it, but still charged me for it.

Our first trip here and we liked it very much. The fish was fresh, the waitress recommended sides for our meals. We took home a pound of cooked shrimp. Very simple decor, and not expensive.

Food is very good and the portions are large. Menu is varied and prices are quite reasonable. Dont let the place or its lack of decor scare you. Its worth it.

Not what it used to be. The Manhattan clam chowder was downright NASTY. Broiled salmon excellent. Service mediocre at best.
