Id give lower if it were possible. My family and I went here for breakfast on our last day in OCNJ. The restaurant looked nice, the windows were open so there was a nice breeze, nice ambiance... then the waitress opened her mouth and ruined that. She was rude and when my 8 y.o. told her of his food allergy, she was nasty to him and told him they dont accommodate food allergies. I dont take issue with the fact that they dont want to deal with food allergies. Its their call. It was the way she said it to him that was completely uncalled for and unnecessary. He was almost in tears. I told our waitress to take my order and my kids orders off and she looked like she wanted to fight me on that. I cant recall a time weve been treated so poorly at a restaurant. I took my kids and left but the rest of our large group stayed. They said the food was mediocre at best and thats assuming they get your order right. Every other restaurant that we went to in OCNJ was fine with food allergies and they all had friendly wait staff. If you want great food and friendly service, I recommend Chatterbox (9th and Central). We should have gone back there and not wasted our time at Varsity Inn.

Varsity used to serve fresh fruit on the french toast, but this morning, our annual trek to Varsity was highly disappointing. The strawberries were sour and stewed, inedible. The blueberries were shriveled and hard, also inedible. All were buried under the toast as if they were ashamed to serve it. When I said something to the staff, they finished the "fruit was bad" sentence for me before I could get it out. No longer the same place weve trekked to for 10 years prior.

The Varsity is a long time staple of Ocean City, Open for breakfast and lunch this place fills up fast in the warm months. There can be quite a wait for a table, but its well worth it. The service is always excellent, the food is great, and the prices arent over inflated like a great deal of shore establishments tend to be. If you dont want to wait for a table, they offer take out too.

Just because this place has atmosphere and tradition going for it, dont think they skimp on the food. Never had a bad breakfast there. Finally broke down recently and tried the vaunted grilled cheese & tomato soup combo... and havent gotten anything else since. The only difficulty is getting a table at regular mealtime in the high season. Well worth waking up early for.

What can I say about this place. I have been coming here for over 20 years and the food and service has always been spectacular. They have specialty breakfasts for the kids that make them feel special and a breakfast menu that includes anything you might want. As long as this place is here it will be a part of my shore visits.

Yes, there are many choices in Ocean City New Jersey but none I like the varsity inn. We drive for hours just for the baked tomato soup. This is not a fancy restaurant. Its like a diner But much better. Great service with a smile, love the atmosphere with all the penants, and the food is always good.

My family stayed right above the restaurant for a week. Now I say above it there are condos above the restaurant. The food was amazing we had breakfast and lunch there and werent in anyway disappointed. If you arent to far away from the varsity inn we strongly recommend it.

There are better choices in OCNJ than Varsity. You can tell they are just churning out the plates with little care for the food. Everybody in my party was nonplussed with their breakfast. The fruit was gross and everything else was just average at best.

Try to stop in every time we are in Ocean City. Staff is wonderful, love the college theme pennants and the TV gives you the lastest sports or news. Food is always good and a great value, especially for the shore. See you soon at the Varsity Inn.
