"You can divide the people in the world into two basic groups", (*) a common refrain begins. Smashburger tries to bridge the divide between basic fast-food choices and those found at casual dining establishments. The menu offers a wider selection than many burger spots, and thats where the perennial divide comes in. In that vein, you have a place like Five Guys, that purposely has a limited menu and seeks to execute those traditional basics the best way possible. On the opposite side, we have Smashburger, seeking to differentiate themselves with endless riffs on the same basic theme - different bread styles, alternative toppings (avocado, anyone?), and sides. I dined at Smash when the location first opened, and wasnt impressed. My own reaction surprised me enough, given the buzz, that I waited and visited again in attempt to see if its Smashburger, or me! The bun choices are different - but lacking (to me) compared to the traditional bun offered at the competitor. The patty is fresh, well-cooked, and a definite upgrade to that found at the Usual Suspects - but doesnt stand a chance against the Five Guys burger. The toppings? I dont need avocado on a flippin burger, or non-conflict hummus and sprouts raised organically on classical music. The haystack onions promise something different, and are shockingly greasy (tried them on several occasions), and the fries are just woeful compared to the epic, five-star awesomeness of Five Guys fries, cooked in fresh peanut oil, and a destination in their own right. The service is decent, the concept is good, and for the right person, SmashBurger is probably a good bet. But for me, its just a letdown. (*) and yes, paper towels/toilet paper should go OVER THE TOP - always! ;)

My first Smashburger experience the other day resulted in mixed impressions. The customer service was excellent, and everyone was friendly and accommodating. My vanilla malt shake was excellent! However, things went downhill from there. The sweet potato fries were a bit undercooked, and the fry container was only about 3/4 full which I was surprised by. I did a build your own beef burger, and the toppings were fresh and tasty, however the biggest issue of the whole meal was the patty. I have had many burgers from many burger places, and that was the saltiest burger patty I can remember, and my coworker who was with me said the same thing. Had it not been for that, it probably wouldve been 4/5. Id be tempted to try Smashburger again, but not the North Brunswick one, to see if the salty patty issue is here or is it a chain-wide issue. I wouldve said something at the place but I ordered it to-go.

Damn good burgers! The smash fries are also good, but not as outstanding as people make them out to be (to me anyway). They take some time, but thats to be expected since its better quality than your typical fast food burger joint. They have an interesting scheme in place where if you fill out the after-purchase survey (look at your receipt), keep the receipt handy, and go back within 30 days, youll get a free side. I guess to them, the feedback is worth more than the few dollars in lost revenue. Im curious whether they actually listen to and make changes based on the feedback received though. This (and other locations Ive been to) sometimes seem to have challenges with keeping the soda fountain area clean, and the service can be a bit off at times.

We show up on a Friday at 9:45PM and after we place the order...we are RUDELY told that our order MUST be a "TO GO" Order because they are closing in 5 mins....(When it was actually 15 minutes to 10:00PM). But, thats not the issue...the issue starts when I mention that their website states that they close at 11PM on a Friday....the woman behind the counter states, that "it says 10PM on the door".....she then leaves the counter and walks to the front door...after she realizes that she was incorrect....she silently marches back shaking her head....VERY RUDELY TREATED and I do not recommend going there, unless you want to be treated like an animal!!

Second time that this place got my burger wrong. The first time I found out only when I got back home. Called and complained to the manager. This time I checked in the parking lot and instead of a Big Baja with everything, I got some swiss and beef on two buns without anything else. I went back in to tell them and they were so rude. didnt say sorry, she just yelled to the kitchen that she needed a another Baja. Got the right one in 10 minutes and probably never going back to this one again. The one in Menlo is crowded, but much better service.

If you enjoy a quality burger, Smashburger is a must-have. Their summer special "The Spicy Cowboy" is my all-time favorite, but really no matter what burger you order, youll be extremely satisfied. Dont forget to get a side of Smash Fries! The ingredients are always fresh and the burgers are cooked perfectly to order. The staff is very helpful and service is quick. When I brought my friends here for the first time, they were instantly hooked and weve been back several times to satisfy the craving.

There are a few people here (like Tina) who are amazing! They do a pretty good job of getting my order right and doing it in a timely manner. Occasionally, they get something slightly wrong, but when they do they are always gracious and fix it promptly. Dont bother calling your order in, though :-) Just go in and order; its faster.

I am a true burger lover and I must say Smashburger exceeded my expectations. Had the avocado burger and was truly pleased. The only complaint were the fries. Not a fan of thin fries, so next time probably try the sweet potato fries. Definitely going back.

Expensive and staff was rude and blank, there It was my first time here and asked help got none. No explanation about the menu or the items. As simmple as the menu or the items are as a first timer I was expecting some help to ease the first experience.

Staff is disoriented. The person taking the order was looking at her own phone and asking us to repeat the order. Looks like no one cares about this place. Food is also not that good as earlier

Good burger. A bit smaller than expected but done on a flat top. Good crust. Fries were great. For my first visit i would have to say that i will be back. Hope they keep this level up.

I like that I can get goat cheese and truffle mayo. This is the only burger place where i can truly make a burger I want because there are enough unique customising options .
