Friday is usually eat out/take out night and we wanted to try this place. We live in the neighborhood and Ive always wanted try it. We werent expecting much but we were pleasantly surprised with our overall experience. The place was very warm, inviting but most of all clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful with reccomendations. We were served fresh tortilla chips with 3 varieties of fresh salsas. A black bean dip salsa, a chipotle tomatoe salsa and a fresh cilantro tomatoe salsa. All were very tasty and flavorful. We ordered the chaloua honey wings and they also well cooked and tasty. They were fried perfectly not dried and overfried like most other places. For entree I ordered the Carne asada with chipotle mash potatoes. The dish wasnt what I expected but it was very flavorful but I had issues with how it was served. The potatoes were surrounded but a very flavorful mushroom broth (not gravy) which I dont think is very appealiing way to serve this dish. Is it a soup or entree? The chef should realize this dish doesnt work with the broth. Get rid of the broth. Other than the broth the meat waswell cooked and flavorfull. The would have been fine if they 86 the broth. Overall rating of 2.5 for the carne asada. My wife had the tomatillo classic burrito. She really liked it. It was a huge dish. I also tasted it and the only comment I have is it could been seasoned a bit better. Needed a bit of salt. The waitress detected my dislike of the broth and offered a dessert on the house to make up for the brothy carne asada which was a class move. We were intending to return in the future but that move only guaranteed our return sooner. Anyway great, clean and reasonable place to eat. A local gem and must try for all. $$

I have been going to the Tortilla Press for about 3 years. I have grown accustomed to excellent food and even better service. Recently there have been some staff changes, particularly the bar tenders, and its basically enough to keep me from coming back. This past Friday I was there with a large group of my friends for about 3 or 4 hours. After getting my bill I noticed that there were a number of drinks on there that I did not order. I figured it could have been a mistake because of the large group of people I was associated with. I walked to the end of the bar where the young, tattoed bartender spent most of the night talking to her boyfriend. I showed her the receipt and suggested that maybe there was a mistake. After rolling her eyes and letting it be visibly known to me that she was annoyed that I interrupted her time away from the crowd and in the corner with her boyfriend, she says "well point to whichever one of your friends are paying for them". I explained that I wasnt going to randomly put them on one of my friends bills. I asked if she could recall giving me the drinks on my bill. Her response "its not my job to keep track of how many drinks you have". This is coming from the BAR TENDER. It is exactly her job to do that. I couldnt be more disappointed with the Tortilla Press bringing a disrespectful, immature and bad attitude bar tender to the place where me and my friends often like to visit. Its unfortunate because their food is great and I always enjoyed spending time there. Because of this experience, I doubt my friends and me will be returning. Food was great, bar tender couldnt have been more disrespectful and unprofessional. She represented The Tortilla Press very poorly.

UPDATE: Let me say that the owner of this place is a class act. After my review he reached out to me, apologized, and asked that I give it a second chance some time later. Let me say that he heard what I had to say. Everything was excellent. I visited late but prior to closing. Every thing was great. And was informed of the changes made to rectify the issues I experienced. I recommended this place before because of the food. Now I can recommend because of the bar personnel as well. They are there to please. -------------------------- Let me start by saying the food is good but the service from one of the bartenders is terrible. Heres my example. The closing time listed on-line is 10pm. I walk in through THE BAR DOOR to an VERY unwelcoming "THE KITCHENS CLOSED!!" yelled at me at 9pm. Feeling total unwelcome and as if Im being told to leave I press on to the bar (where I see others seated and drinking). If I want food I would have gone through the restaurant door. The proper way to address me is to welcome me (and my money) by saying something like Hello, would to like a drink? and then if I ask for food AT THE BAR inform me that the kitchen is closed. This woman comes off 100 % rude. Hence why I give two stars because I want someone there to address this POOR welcoming. I realize you want to go home early. So did I when I left work that day. But I stayed because that was my job. I didnt try to kick people out and hour early by being rude in the welcoming.

Having not had Mexican food for quite awhile and reading all of the stellar reviews here on Google, I was really looking forward to trying Tortilla Press Cantina for dinner. My girlfriend and I left extremely disappointed. The good: Modelo Negra on tap, the coconut flan dessert (exceptional), the red salsa and the service. Our waiter was excellent. The bad: tried three different margaritas. The tequila came through so overwhelmingly that it was hard to distinguish one margarita selection from another. We especially found the three different versions of water glass/tumblers each were served in, interesting. The food - bland. No taste, no spice. I had the classic burrito with shrimp. The shrimp were fresh, but the dish otherwise had nothing going for it. My girlfriend had the chipotle shrimp tacos. Again, no taste. Loaded the tacos up with the salsa from the chips and that at least provided some flavor. Ive had better Mexican from the frozen food section of the supermarket. Will not be back. One star. Would have been zero but for the really excellent service and the coconut flan.

Came after work on a Monday and it was quiet. Was quickly seated and served the house chips with salsa. I found the salsas to be on the watery side and lacking in flavor. Additionally, eithet salsas was not spicy at all. The black bean dip was thick but had a relatively good flavor. I ordered the port carnitas tacos. The taco shell tasted fresh an was good. The pork was on the dry side but had a good flavor. The garnishes were standard. The star of the tacos was the Salsa Verde. (I believe they called it something else). This had a good flavor and was actually a tad spicy. Even though it was the star by no means was it amazing. Additionally the rice and beans tasted off but I am not usually a fan of beans. Overall the experience was good, but the food left me craving for a more authentic Mexican experience with more authentic flavors. I do not know if I will be back based on the lack of flavor. 1 star for good serivce and another for the salsa verde.
