Please Note:This is a review of the Black Horse Pub, not the Black Horse Inn. When other reviews state that this place is "the best place around" it may very well be because there is in fact, nothing else around. Not for miles-so dont be mislead. Read past the local reviews and you will find a similar theme-overpriced, nothing special. When we went there it was Mothers day and the Pub was so overcrowded that customers had to walk through the kitchen to get to their tables. The Pub is overpriced, rich people go here for mediocre food, as do out of towners. The Pub does a better job of "putting on airs and grace" than putting value and something good on the plate. There was nothing memorable that we ate, nothing that we said "they did this very well" or "I will remember this one thing that was special". Nothing-the buffet was like bland wedding food. I will say the servers do a very nice job and work very hard, but for 2 1/2 people for brunch it just wasnt worth the $100 we paid. Yes, it was $100 for 2 1/2 people (one persons check was split between 2 parties). For the kind of money that they charge they simply must do better.

Went here for an anniversary dinner with my wife expecting as the website describes "An elegant display and collection of antiques, country English design furniture mixed with the rustic beauty of early Americans create an atmosphere of warmth and beauty that befits the lifestyles of the rich and famous." Instead half the place was being rented out for a sweet sixteen party. There was thumping rap music blasting throughout the place, HS kids screaming the often inappropriate lyrics, and 16 year old girls running around the place wearing outfits I wouldnt let a 30 year old leave the house in. We could barely hear ourselves talk or communicate with the waitress. They could have told us this would be going on when we made the reservation. It was clear that everyone in the place was rather annoyed, and a simple apology from the manager would have gone a long way but we werent even offered that. This place may be good every other night, but it was the worst "high end" dining experience Ive ever had.

WILDLY, OBSCENELY, AND OFFENSIVELY OVERPRICED. This is an average tavern experience that charges more while delivering nothing special. Every time a restaurant swings for the fences with their prices, Theyre definitely taking a huge gamble. If the food can justify the price, then its a home run. If not, then its an utter failure. Black Horse Tavern is the latter. Charging $37 on Easter for a duck entree thats mediocre is utterly unacceptable. Charging $47 for a filet mignon and then having the server leave the dirty knife on the table because they were poorly trained is completely unacceptable. How can they justify using olives from a can on their salads? I ordered a cocktail and I could have mixed it better, so why did I pay them $15 to make a terrible cocktail? So, because the prices are off the scale, you should absolutely avoid this awful place.

We made reservations for Easter brunch and still had to wait for a table for half hour They took us to the end of the room for a table of 5. The only way to get to the buffet was thru the kitchen. Mind you, we had my 86 year old mom with us and she almost slipped on the kitchen floor. They sat a family of 10 next to our table and there was not enough room to get out. The head waitress had to bring us more food and dessert from the buffet. It was a nice gesture on her part. It is very disappointing that you pay so much for their brunch and we never got to enjoy our moneys worth because the room was so crowded and we could not get out of our table.

Amazing!! Awesome atmesphere and great food. Starting with great appatizers to the perfect tasting buffalo wings, and the incredible onion rings are my favorite appetizers there. Everyone there looks like they are having a great time. With a good sized menu there is something for everyone. There pub burgers are amazing! One of the best burgers ive ever had! With a nice juicy flavor, cheese, and perfect bun, you cannot go wrong with this burger! With excellent service the Mendham Pub is Mendhams best restaurant by far!

Went there for the first time in 15 years, and I must say a terrific improvement !! I had the great thick spit roasted prime rib which was excellent, and I am a prime rib lover over 50 years,....their baked potato shocked me !!.....any other upscale restaurant you would pay 6-7 dollars ala carte just for the potato.... it came with the rib, as well as very good asparagus, I also had the "under 8" shrimp cocktail that was a meal unto itself........not a negative about the place including the excellent service

The valet parking irritates me. If its crowded (which it usually is) the car guys take care of their regulars first no matter how long youve been waiting. Theres a free municipal lot across the street. Park there. Inside the restaurant, you get the impression that these folks know how to do it. Their wait staff is always excellent. The food is decent and theres enough of it. Its no bargain price-wise, but we go anyway.

The service is great. The garlicky clams are okay. The clam shaped dish they are served in are the best feature of this appetizer. Not a lot of garlic and the clams are not fresh. The prime rib panini is tasty but the fries it is served with are very oily. The mac and cheese has a premade not homemade taste. The blueberry blackberry pie was awesome. It was very fresh and loaded with great tasting fruit.

Staff not attentive, restaurant not busy but staff were scrambling. Didnt get greeted promptly. Mac & Cheese app was bland. Asparagus was not trimmed properly, lamb WAY over cooked. Asked for bread 3 times, never got bread. Took 30 minutes and chasing the staff down to get the check. For an established restaurant, they were extremely disorganized and amateur. Wont be back.

The tavern is a favorite since the 1960s. Unfortunately the food is sub standard. The atmosphere is still nice and cozy. The food isnt too bad, but this historic location deserves better. The pub next door is newer and more popular, and probably carries the tavern financially. But the tavern is better atmosphere and deserves better food.

The food is very good, great beer selection, but... they need to hand out EARPLUGS when seating people in the side room near the kitchen. GOOD LORD. We are here now, and the noise level is atrocious. We brought my parents here and were really quite embarrassed. Shame. How about a SOLID WALL between the kitchen and the paying guests??

Kaitlyn, our server, was very enthusiastic & had excellent meal recommendations. The timing for each item, such as drinks, appy, entree & drink refills was paced perfectly, in that we had room for brownie sundae topped with smores ice cream. But most of all during our dinner we had time to talk & listen to each others day.

Ive only eaten in the pub, but even in the "cheaper" part of the restaurant (the pub) the service is very good. Most of the wait staff is friendly except for one or two. The food is awesome. I drive 25+ minutes out of my way for this place to dine in beautiful Mendham, NJ! Highly recommended!
