Im Puerto Rican, born and raised, and was thrilled to find out theres a PR restaurant with an authentic menu not too far from where I live now. Ive tried a few other "PR" restaurants in the past, but they are usually generic Caribbean food places (not specifically from PR, though they include PR food) and I rarely find the menu items I love most from home. This place has a really nice, authentic, varied menu. I went last night with my husband and some friends to celebrate my birthday and we were all very happy with all the food we got. The sorullos were huge, much bigger than Im used to, but delicious. I ordered a yuca mofongo, but Im pretty sure what I got was a regular plantain one. I wish they wouldve just let me know up front if they were out or whatever. That was a little odd. Even so, it was very good. The sauce that came with it wasnt the usual garlic mojo Im used to, but it amazing. My husband ordered pernil with arroz con gandules and it was incredible. The pernil was incredibly moist and flavorful. Definitely the best pernil Ive eaten in NJ so far. They even have a "trifongo" which is a mofongo made with green plantain, ripe plantain, and yuca. Ive never heard of it before, but it was really good. For dessert, we tried a tres leches, which was a little richer than Im used to, but a great way to cap off the night. Wed definitely go back! Im curious to try their weekend menu... I saw two of my favorite PR dishes in there as well.

I used to go to this establishment about 4-5 times a year. Ive worked in restaurant industry so Im not shy about ordering food and beverages. The food was great but the service was lousy each time. Regardless I never tipped below 20% and went as high as 30 once. The check always averaged 200 bucks and over. So I go in early one day around 5pm with my family and this kid seats me by the bathroom. I asked if we could sit somewhere else and he said no. I questioned why not. He said all tables were reserved. Mind you the restuarant was empty and it was early. I thought to complain but said to myself the service was always lacking. So its better to just leave than get my food spat in. But they will never get my business ever again. The sad thing is this kid saw me at the restuarant before and use poor judgement in resolving a customers grievance. I always paid for everything and nothing was ever given free. Other establishments appreciate my business and that is why I return time and time again. The service sucked but I tolerated because the food was good. If you dont mind the lousy service then enjoy. Otherwise find another latin place that value their returning customers.

Went to Salsa Latina to celebrate my daughters Birthday. I made reservations for a specific table for six by the window. When we got there the hostess proceeded to take us to a table in the back. When I tried telling her this she first said it was a table for 8. I pointed out that the Table by the window was for six. She seemed clearly annoyed and brought us to the table by the window. Mind you the place was empty. After 5 minutes she came back and told me that we would only have this table for an hour because our table was reserved for 7pm. Ive had private parties, been to dinner there with friends and have had take out there for years. She was rude and disrespectful . She said she would have the so called management come out and talk to me. Management never came out . We got up and left. I will never go back there again. They are overrated, unprofessional and rude. Food is definetely not worth it.

The management of this place is horrible. A few years ago I booked a large group and they asked for a deposit so I obliged. The day before they called me and said I needed to get them a set menu. I refused since I was not told that when I made the reservation nor when I left the deposit. Fast forward to this week when we were finally able to get there after getting a gift card last year from friends. At the end of the meal, they said they wouldnt take it since they no longer used that gift card system and couldnt tell how much was on the card even though we had the envelope that showed the amount. After an argument with the sever and a manager who refused to come talk to us, I left in cash what I rightly deserved to be charged - the balance of the meal minus the credit from the gift card and a tip for the server even though she decided to argue with us on behalf of the ridiculous management.

I have never had a more unpleasant experience at a restaurant in my life. I can honestly say that today I a grown man, was yelled at by a manager of this place. All we did was ask the waitress whether a salad was supposed to have avocado, which it was but there werent any. Oh, they didnt have any avocados but we were just never told this. Our waitress never came back to our table after that. After chasing her down 30 minutes later, I asked for the check and got one, we were then sitting around and waiting for her to come back, which after another 30 minutes still never happened. I walked up to the back to ask for the manager who proceeded to yell at me for somehow miss treating her staff, and told me she didnt care about how many times Ive been there prior. I will never return to this place and urge others to beware of this poorly managed establishment.

We had went here on Easter Sunday and I must say stay away from here the service is super horrible!!!! We had a party of 15 and after they had gotten our order they had forgotten that we were even there and then when our food came to the table they didnt even know whos food was whos. I had to ask another waiter for a refill on my water and then on top of that the they dont explain what comes with your food. When the bill came I was dying to pay to get out but they got the fing balls to add a $20 tip and that was only for my part of the bill and only for 4 of us. that waiter must have gotten a $150 tip for doing nothing. oh by the way not even the owner came to our table to say hello what a joke that place is go to burger king or Wendys your better off.

It so sad that this is one of the only authentic Puerto Rican restaurant in the area because although the food is amazing the service is terrible. Last night was the second year in a row I wanted to enjoy my birthday dinner at Salsa Latina and got turned away at the door and hour and a half before the restaurant closed. We arrived promptly at 8:30 p.m. and we were told that the kitchen closed at 9:00 p.m. and so we could not be seated. We called to speak with a manager since we drove about 30 minutes from Long Branch and the manager put us on hold for almost 1o minutes and then hung up the phone. I loved this place for the Trifongo it was one of my top choices but after last night I will never go back nor suggest Salsa Latina to anyone else. Q
